The third instalment of the graphic adaptation from Rainbow Rowell's bestselling Fangirl series picks up as the exact moment the second volume ends. We find Cath and Reagan leaving Levi's party, where Cath just watched Levi kiss another girl. This volume feels both monumental and filler since some drama was resolved, while other things are just kicking off. As with the others in the series, I enjoy the art style immensely and love the tidbits of Simon snow thrown in. In all honesty, this series is just making me want a Carry On graphic novel even more and now waiting just to see the conclusion of Fangirl is killing me (as if I don't already know how it ends, I just want all the adorable Cath/Levi sweetness).
This is the continuation of the Fangirl Manga. This one was a bit heavy and deals with issues such as mental health and abandonment. Cath, the main character, is going through many struggles at school and in her personal life. Her Simon Snow fanfiction is helping her and shows her deep connection to these characters. I wish it was a little more, however. It was the slowest of the 3 volumes and seemed to really focus on Cath's struggles.
The third installment of the Fangirl manga series, read as a PDF on my computer. Thanks NetGalley!
I have no words except these:
- The artwork is stunning
- I could get lost in this adaptation for days
If you enjoy the book or R.R., check out the manga!
If you liked the other two volumes you will like the next instalment. Very faithful to the original book.
I love this adaptation of the book. The artwork and the scenes between the real world and Cath's fanfiction of Simon Snow just make me smile. Literally, I smiled the entire time while reading this volume and I'm pretty sure the same can be said for the next volume when it comes out. This series is relatable for fangirlies like me who have sought refugee in the fictional world when things get tough or trying. We cling to it because it brings us happiness, but when the the fictional world comes to a close we know we have to face reality. Hopefully with these fictional stories to inspire us we can move forward and face what's ahead just like Cath will have too.
Still cute, but I don't think it's as super cute as the first book in the series. I guess the drama is getting more complex and that takes away some of the cuteness for me. Definitely worth continuing though. I liked the cliffhanger end to this volume. I am interested to see where that leads.
I received this arc from netgalley and VIZ Media in exchange for my honest review.
I love that FanGirl is being adapted into a manga and volume 3 was stellar! I love Gabi Nam’s art and all the characterizations and expressions! I’m very much looking forward to the final volume
Another great addition to the Fangirl manga set! I love this series and was thrilled with the relationship and character development that occurred in this volume. Can't wait for number 4!
I will never not give this book five stars, no matter what format. Fangirl is a story that hits so close to home to me because I was Cath, heck I might still be Cath even to this day. She's such a relatable character for a lot of people, and being able to see her and the other characters brought to life in the manga format is truly special. The third volume of this story is filled with a lot of tension, questioning and the building and tearing down of relationships as Cath deals with the cliffhanger from the previous installment, her dad's mental health decline, her sister's judgement, her internal battle of feeling good enough and the abandonment of her mother. Levi is there in the background, trying to win Cath back and being is adorable, golden retriever self. It's such a great adaptation and I can't wait for the next volume!
Thanks to VIZ Media and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. A complete review will be available on the Pages n' Pages podcast Chapter 105.
Thank you Netgalley and VIZ for this advancedcopy.
Carry On has always been my favorite series and I enjoyed reading Fangirl. I've read all the 2 volumes before and really loved Gabi Nam's illustration. She drew Levi perfectly. Also during this volume, I could see how amazing Gabi's illustrations. Her way to express emotions with paneling and toning were AMAZING and beautiful. I am excited to read the next volume.
I have been loving this manga rewrite of Fangirl. In the beginning I was worried it wouldn’t work well by my goodness I could’ve never been more wrong. The art is amazing and the characters look exactly how I pictured when I first read the Fangirl novel. This volume in particular was by far the most emotional one. We are at the point in the novel where Cath is dealing with her relationships with her friends, sister, and parents and it gets to be too much for her. Overall this was amazing and I can’t wait for more!
I love the original Fangirl book, and I have loved the manga adaptations so far. This volume is no exception! The story translates to pictures so well and I cannot wait to read the final volume!
ARC provided by NetGalley.
As always, I LOVED this issue of Fangirl. I have literally nothing to say besides how amazing this series is and how true it is to the novel. Rainbow is phenomenal in her characters and Sam is just an incredible artist. I am devastated knowing that volume 4 is the last volume but want it now!!! Levi is still my king - I had to let my partner know he will always be second to Levi and he has to be okay with that.
I need everyone to read this series!!!! Ugh!!
5/5
Honestly? Nothing wrong with this volume at all. A lot was covered and I’m really interested to see how the story continues to play out. Maybe I should read all my contemporary romances via manga-format? Or maybe I should just continue to read manga since I forgot how much I love it. Anyway, I digress.
I’m really glad my first time consuming Fangirl is through manga-form. I think the Simon Snow and fan fiction parts lend themselves well to a visual form. I feel like if I had to read those parts in the middle of the novel I wouldn’t like it, but because they go by so fast in manga-form it’s a lot more palatable to me.
Not much to say other than I eagerly await to read the next volume.
GOD I read this way too fast and now I'm crying because all that's left is a cliff hanger and a long wait for volume 4!!
This graphic novel continues to follow the events of the novel version of Fangirl. After seeing her crush Levi kissing another girl at a party, Cath doesn't know what to feel or do. Things go even further downhill when her dad has to check into a hospital for his mental health. Her grades at school suffer. Cath and Wren fight about Wren visiting their mother for Christmas. Cath isn't ready to forgive her mother for abandoning them when they were eight years old. Cath finally tells Levi why she's been avoiding him, and they start rebuilding their relationship. Just when things are getting back on track, Cath receives a phone call from her mother, and she freezes. Can Cath move past the hurt of the past to forgive her mother? Will she ever finish her short story for her fiction writing class? Find out in the next volume!
