This book features incredibly beautiful depictions of Greece, its natural beauty, magic and wind if influence of its history! The feels, moods reflecting in weather and nature around the characters is my most favorite thing in books!
I loved the description of island and the FURY mythology. I loved that it was so DIFFERENT from the Rick Riordan’s Greek God references that everyone is using after he did it!
I fell in love with the author’s Greece! His Greece is powerful, Magical, alive, sensual and inviting!
Loved author’s references to writing - he says in any book, character’s motivation is really the most important part! It is what Makes the story or … breaks it!
This wasn't as good as The Silent Patient, imo. I read this in one sitting so it was definitely captivating, I think in part due to the unique narrative style. I enjoyed the way he told the story, but wish the reveals were a bit bigger. He seemed to talk every single one up. I give it 3.25 stars, because I did enjoy the storytelling.
Excellent book! Loved all the twists and turns. The storyline and characters immediately drew me in and I could not read this fast enough to figure out who did it!
I actually liked the meta aspect of this story. It felt very movie like or theatrical and I could see this being turned into a screenplay for sure. I thought it was pretty fast moving and loved the story.
i had high hopes for this book as i loved The Silent Patient, but this one fell flat for me. the premise was interesting and i usually like a flip floppy timeline, but this one became a bit much for my liking. the pacing is extremely slow and at some point, i lost interest in the story and couldn’t wait for it to end. i found it difficult to care about elliot, and the unreliable narrator really took me out of the story. i closed this book with disappointment and i’m sad about it because alex michaelides really wooed me in other books.
thank you netgalley for providing me with arc in exchange for an honest review!
Lana Farrar is a famous movie-star who has decided to quit her "job" and become a recluse. She and several of her famous friends decide to take a last minute trip to a private island in Greece, as you do when you are a famous ex-movie star. As luck would have it, and as you could guess, the weather goes bad, someone is murdered and everyone is trapped, cut off from the rest of the world. I feel like this story has been done many times before, and much more successfully.
The book starts out with promise and then turns slow very quickly. Maybe my expectations were set way too high after the silent patient, but I was hoping for a lot more out of this lackluster story. There is a lot of set up that honestly seems to fall flat. There are parts of this book that are entertaining, but overall the pacing of this book left me disappointed.
If you haven't read The Silent Patient read that first because for some reason the author chose to put in a spoiler in the epilogue!
4 stars
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It was a really slow burn, but I somehow enjoyed the slowness of it compared to some of the other novels which just thrown in twists to throw in twists.
While, it was not my favourite Alex Michaelides novel, I am thankful for the opportunity to read it.
I ended up not finishing this book. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t for me. For this reason, I will not share a review.
Every title by this author leaves me feeling excited and satisfied and wanting more! I will read his grocery lists, I just love him that much. This one was so running set in Greece and with a theater aspect. I had the best time
Just when I thought The Silent Patient was my favorite book by Alex Michaelides, I read The Fury and found my new favorite book!!! Such a gripping read from start to finish!!
Lana, a movie star, decides to invite her friends to a Greek Island for some fun times together. This book is very twisty and definitely gives off Agatha Christie vibes. I believe had I read this before The Silent Patient I would have enjoyed it more. The Silent Patient is so raved about and suggested that I went into The Fury believing it would be as crazy a ride as The Silent Patient. Regardless, the story is engaging and the ending is worth reading!
"The Fury" by Alex Michaelides presents an intriguing premise that draws readers into a world of tension and conflict. I had a hard time getting into Elliot’s character and I expexted more after reading The Silent Patient. Character development was slow. The pacing is uneven, with some sections dragging while others rush through important moments. While the writing is engaging, it failed to grab my attention throughout.
I liked that this book kept going back to the same time period over and over and telling it a different way. It was kind of still like his other novel The Silent Patient with the dude being bad, but other than that... a good book.
Alex Michaelides is back with a murderous thriller, set on a private island in Greece. from a mysterious voice, we hear the story of the weekend Lana Farrar, ex-movie star, invites her friends to her island, and a murder takes place.
this book read like a Broadway show – I really enjoyed the perspective it was told from, and it captured me from the beginning. I didn’t see where the turns were taking me, and with all the unlikeable characters I was just along for the ride. you don’t know who to cheer for, you don’t know who is murdered, or who did it, until the very end.
this was a huge improvement from The Maidens, which I didn’t love. would recommend on audio or on paper.
I desperately want to like Alex Michaelides, especially because he's so popular, but I just can't get into his books. This book just drags on forever. If this is your first time picking up a Michaelides book, pick another one. While unreliable narrators tend to be fun perspectives, Elliot was just so boring that you didn't get into it.
I have loved Alex Michaelides since I read the Silent Patient. Here is his 3rd book and he still does not disappoint.
This is a classic "who did it" and who is telling the truth. Elliot who is narrating the book is no where near as reliable as one might think.
As always, Alex keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat!
Thank you NetGalley for the review.
I was apprehensive after seeing so many negative reviews but I throughly enjoyed this one. I loved the interesting POV, the story broken into acts and treated like a play, and the many twists.
I also read via audio and I believe the narrator really helped to make this an enjoyable read. His inflections and intonations were great.
Officially giving up on this author unfortunately. The Silent Patient got SO much hype and I found it just fine. I was not into the Maidens at all. and this ended up being the same.
I have been on a romance kick, but finally sat down with this book. Not my favorite by this author, but they will always be an automatic buy/recommend for me!
This is maybe one of the worst books I've ever read lol. I keep giving Alex Michaelides a chance and he lets me down every time.
