Our story starts with a meeting of the narrator, Elliot Chase. He wants to tell you a story about murder and love on a secluded island where he finds himself with a few of our Heroine, Lana’s friends. Told from a first person perspective and several different “acts” Michaelides sprinkles in some twists, turns and deceit in this unusual psychological thriller.

Ended 2023/started 2024 with finishing up an ARC I was very excited to receive! Overall, this is a pretty great and easy read. Short chapters that keep you wanting more. With an interesting story telling process as if you’re sitting in a bar with the narrator which was a unique and creative spin that I needed. I didn’t love The Silent Patient near as much as booktok does so I was hesitant going in but was delightfully surprised at this one. There was a little back and forth that made it hard to follow sometimes but overall a great story with a twist I didn’t see coming. 4/5⭐️ to start the new year. 🥳🙏🏼

I read this one super fast, as it’s not a difficult read and I was sort of interested in the story. I just didn’t like or trust the narrator which I suppose was the point. Overall, this was a solid 3 stars for me… an easy to read thriller with a few twists and turns along the way.

My thanks to NetGalley and Celadon Books for the opportunity to read an advance copy of The Fury.

I loved The Silent Patient, it’s one of the books that got me back into reading. The Maidens was a letdown after that, and I would say this book falls somewhere in between.

This was a slooooow burn. I was intrigued by a murder on a desolate island, very And Then There Were None-esque. Unfortunately we kept waiting for something to happen. The narrator insisted that we needed to know all of this information to understand what happened.

The ending had a lot of twists, and I was very surprised by it. It didn’t blow my mind but it was an entertaining end to what otherwise was tooo slow of a book.

I both read and listened to the audiobook, I thought the narrator was a good choice for this character.

Thank you to NetGalley and Celadon Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

🎭 You like Greek tragedy
🎭 You like Agatha Christie books
🎭 You liked the show “You”

Lana Farrar is sick of the London weather and would like a getaway to her island in Greece. She invites her closest friends, including Elliot Chase. A getaway that turns into a nightmare, a fury they can’t escape. What happens when the backstabbing, drama, and jealousy is mixed with some booze and selfishness? Seven friends, isolated on an island with one murderer. Will they find out who it is?

Elliot Chase, narrates the story to which we learn as the story unravels how he’s the most untrustworthy narrator. He deviates the story to when he first met Lana to the now, narrating it as if it were a play. Even though the murder is mentioned in the beginning and you think you have it figured out grab a seat and prepare for some wicked twists.

This is my third book I’ve read by Alex and I love how he’s included some characters from The Silent Patient. One of my favorite things about this book in particular is the way it felt like you were reading an act/play. If you loved “If We Were Villains” I think you would enjoy this book. It was also fast paced and short chapters. Out of The Maidens and The Silent Patient this is easily my favorite book by Alex. Also, do you believe in Greek omens?

Thank you NetGalley and Celadon Books for an ARC of The Fury for an honest review.

I really enjoyed The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and have also read The Maidens. I was excited to get an ARC of The Fury.

The Fury is definitely a slow burn thriller. The book is told by Elliott Chase and took me quite awhile to get into it. It is very descriptive and he was all over the place with his back story on the people that were vacationing on the island and how they all knew each other. You'd be reading about one story line and he would switch to another character and tell their story. I didn't feel that it picked up until around the 60% mark. Originally I thought it was going to be similar to Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. However, Elliott makes sure to clear that up right away.

The unreliable narrator really sold this story. The very first chapter? Absolute gold, multiple povs keep the pace going and the setting is absolutely Devine. As the plot continues the secrets revealed really hit with the surprise factor.

The Slient Patient is one of my favorite books so I was very excited to read another book by Alex Michaelides. Overall, I thought The Fury was good! I enjoyed how the book was narrated by Elliott and how we got past and present tense. The beginning was a bit slow but ended up picking up quick.

Thank you for the ARC!!

A quick trip amongst friends and family to a private, Greek island - what could possibly go wrong? You may have heard this story before or a story like this, but you don't know what you are in for when the wind picks up.

Ex-movie star Lana Farrar suggests a long weekend on her island with her son, husband, two best friends Kate and Elliott as well as her two faithful employees Nikos and Agathi. But someone won't be leaving the island alive. You will be told the story by Elliott Chase - a dramatist - so pull up a chair and settle in for the show.

This is officially my second favorite book by author Alex Michaelides. I've read a million books of "group of people go to island, they get stuck there, weird things happen and maybe someone dies." but this one was different and I really enjoyed it. I will say that the main character was annoying to me (but I think he was supposed to be.) It was organized in "acts" which gave it a nice flow. I would recommend this book to any thriller lover!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Celadon in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book’s fresh take on a murder on a remote island. I thought the narration was unique and fun, and the ending was full of twists without being too over the top!

Thanks to the publisher and netgalle for an e-arc!!

This is the second book I read from this author. I’m speechless.

I was hooked since page one. I wanted — scratch that — needed, to know what he had to tell me. What had happened? Who did it? Why did they do it?

We have an unreliable author in a murder mystery involving movie stars, theater geeks and the Greek.

I absolutely loved the short chapters. I also loved the back and forth in time to give us a real sense of what happened, how it developed and who those people were.

The writing style was very fun and easy to read. It almost felt like a conversation between author and reader.

I was gaping at every discovered plot. And I was kicking my feet and laughing hysterically because what the hell was I reading at times??

The final revelation was a little underwhelming to me, but I was too entertained to even care.

Do I recommend it? YES. It’s fun, it’s an adventure, and it’s absolutely WILD.

This was really well told and a good idea for a perspective. But then the end just fell apart, all the back and forth and story changes made me excited to just finish it already so I could read something else

Like everyone else, I was introduced to Alex Michaelides with his phenomenal debut, “The Silent Patient” and I’ve been hooked ever since. His new novel, “The Fury” takes place on a Greek island, which provides the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation- and, a murder.
Lana Farrar is an ex-movie star who retired from the limelight to focus on raising her son, Leo. Every year, she invites her friends to spend time on the idyllic Greek island that she owns, a gift from her late husband. This year is no exception and Lana escapes to her Greek getaway with her son, partner and two best friends. But by the end of the vacation, someone will be dead, and only one of the seven travelers could have done it.
The story is narrated by Lana’s best friend, Elliot, who speaks as if he’s addressing an audience, which makes sense since he deems himself a playwright. He speaks to the reader directly, telling the story of that night, the what’s, why’s and who’s of it all, and tries to encapsulate the perspectives of the other characters.
“Fury” has a very locked-room (well, island), Agatha Christie feel to it, and overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read. All of the characters have secrets, Elliot most of all, and in this case, it isn’t just the murderer we need to uncover, but also the victim.
Michaelides kept me engaged and guessing, and the ending delivered an unexpected twist that I wasn’t prepared for (but thoroughly enjoyed!) “The Fury” is the name the locals give the vicious winds that attack the Greek island, and it’s an appropriate name for this novel, as the plot itself is a vicious whirlwind of mystery and suspense!
Michaelides continues to deliver unique, intelligent stories with unsuspecting characters and thrilling twists, and every one of his novels has been a hit with me. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

You give me an unreliable narrator and I’m going to love the book !

We have a murder mystery book - strangers on an island, someone ends up dead. The story is told through a first person POV by one of characters, Elliot.

If you’re a fan of the TV show White Lotus - I would 100% recommend this book.

- You get to know the people on the island, their backgrounds, and their possible motives for murder. Everyone is a suspect right ?

- The narration was SO cool and I rly enjoyed the chaos Elliot brings in telling this story.

- Absolutely did not see the plot twists coming.

- I loved the short chapters; most ending on cliffhangers !

Was it as good as the silent patient, no - but I throughly enjoyed this novel. My only issue was in the third act I got a little lost and it hit a lull. But it picked right back up.

Thank you NetGalley and Celadon Books for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am going to be honest, I don't know why I keep reading this authors books chasing the high that The Silent Patient gave me. I was disappointed to say the least with this one. It felt way too rushed and while I am sure this was the whole point, none of the characters were likeable in any way. I love an unreliable narrator concept, but reading this point of view here just made me cringe. The switching back and for in the timelines felt messy here and many times did nothing for the plot.

I think this may be my last chance on this author.

Regrettably, a fairly meandering first 30-40%. Put this down many times. That said, the final half was smashing and on par with Alex’ previous works. Overall, fun, inspired, and unconventional twists.

I had high hopes for this novel given the author’s earlier work unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. The writing was poor and it was a struggle to finish.

Amazing read!! Think murder mystery with a plot twist on top of a plot twist! So well written. The narrator was a complete cynic and hatable. There really wasn’t a character I liked. It takes place on an island where someone is “murdered”.

I have to say this is one of my favorite and last reads of 2023.

This book had me hooked from the very start and actually got me out of a little reading slump I had been in. It's narrated by the main character Elliot, a playwright, and split up into "acts" which was interesting. It's definitely more of a slow paced murder mystery, so it might not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it from start to finish. The middle did get a little slow, but I also think the information is necessary for the twists at the end. Overall, I thought it was very well written and had a lot of twists I didn't see coming!

I’ve come to expect a slow burn with Michaelides’ books. I enjoyed this one but it fell a little flat for me, was just paced too slowly to keep my interest. I finished the book and glad I did for the little Easter egg at the end, something I’ve noticed makes its way into all of his books.

A mysterious murder on a remote island, intriguing characters, a vivid setting, and a few unexpected twists. I enjoyed the writing style of this book and was curious to discover the ending. I didn’t find this book particularly suspenseful, but more intriguing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
