Elle Kennedy can do no wrong & The Summer Girl proved that once again. I loved the whole Avalon Bay series because you can always expect A+ banter, great character development, and a setting you wish you can be transported to immediately. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a quick summer friends to lovers read!
Many thanks to St Martins Press for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I was not sure what to make of this book initially. The whole "pretty, rich, white people with problems is not typically something that I enjoy. While I did not enjoy the female MCs family dynamics and because of this, I was frustrated with the main character's attitude toward her Black stepmom (which the author doesn't make clear until like, halfway in), as there are microagressions that the fMC commits that are never addressed meanwhile, her bio mom comes off as totally racist once the reader finally does realize the step mom is Black. As a Black reader, that was NOT a great realization.
I did like the journey that the male MC found himself on with his family. Their ups and down definitely made the story for me.
I enjoyed the beachy surroundings and the "will they or won't they" of it all especially because the story managed to be incredibly spicy. There were some wonderfully fun moments with their friends and coworkers as well.
I probably would not read it again, but I would watch it if an adaptation was made. I would recommend this to my white friends but not my POC friends.
Book Review: The Summer Girl

Thankyou Netgalley for this Audio Arc
Cassie is at her Grandmother’s for the summer which also includes her 21st birthday. Tate is a playboy who is leery of relationships. This was a fun little coming of age for romance. Cassie wants a simple summer fling and has set her eyes on Tate. This was a very fun summer only romance read.

What a wonderful YA summer love story. The narrator was great and the story was wonderfully written.
a fantastic continuation of the avalon bay series, which only gets better and better with each continuation. as stunted as i felt the first book was and began to pick up with the second, i feel the romance between tate and cassie hits all the right spots that either felt missing or less developed from the previous 2 books.
While I really enjoyed the story between Tate and Cassie in "The Summer Girl", the audiobook narration wasn't my favourite.
This 3rd book in Elle Kennedy's Avalon Bay romance series follows Cassie, as she comes back to Avalon Bay to spend her summer with her grandmother. During her time there, she's made it a goal of hers to find a summer romance fling. Enter Tate - the golden retriever player. And who also ends up being the house sitter for her grandmother's next door neighbour and who Cassie ends up getting to know and slowly befriends.
As per the author's usual writing style, this book is written in dual POV from both Cassie and Tate's perspectives. While I enjoyed reading it from both sides, it didn't enjoy it as much when I actually listened to the audiobook's narrators. To help distinguish between both characters, there are 2 voice actors who narrates each perspective. I'm not sure if it was the accents they used or because I was listening to the book at 1.5x speed, but I was not getting into the audiobook.
I started to read the book without the audiobook at around 25% and very much enjoyed the story afterwards. While I rate the book itself 5 stars, unfortunately I'll have to rate the audiobook 2 stars.
I love Elle Kennedy's books and this was no exception. The Summer Girl made its way to my top favorite in the Avalon Bay series, both because of the story itself and the characters (Tate in particular). I hope there is more to come from this series!
Thank you to @netgalley and @Stmartinspress for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to @macmillian.audio for a free download of the audiobook.
This story follows Cassie and Tate. Cassie is visiting family for the summer and is looking for a summer fling. Insert Tate, the playboy house sitting next door, who actually wants something more than a fling. There is instant attraction, but the difference is priorities causes a will they/won’t they tension throughout the book.
The story was fun to read and listen too. I was a bit annoyed with Cassie’s character as she comes across as immature.
4 stars

I’ve enjoyed reading this New Adult series so much, and it was great to be back in the coastal town of Avalon Bay in THE SUMMER GIRL.
I loved having dual narration and enjoyed both POVs while reading.
*many thanks to St Martins Press, Macmillan Audio
And Netgalley for the gifted copy for review.
The third installment of the Avalon Bay series was easily my favorite. Although these characters were new-ish to the series, their presence gave a big punch. I loved how they met, became friends, and especially how their friendship/relationship evolved. This feels like the summer romance anyone would want. I enjoyed hearing updates on Mac and Genevieve, and it made me crave more info on the Beacon Hotel. That place feels like a main character that we need updates on!
Okay, this is definitely my favorite of the Avalon Bay series so far! I didn’t expect to fall so in love with Tate, but he was unexpectedly dreamy and kind and just wonderful in every way. I loved Cassie as well and they way they interacted. This is a wonderful steamy romance that I didn’t want to put down!
The Summer Girl is a well-written and engaging novel that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. The characters are likable and relatable, and the story is full of humor, romance, and heart. If you are looking for a light and enjoyable summer read, I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley for the early release copy of The Summer Girl by Elle KEnnedy.
This is a fast paced and exiting read with several different intertwining plots and twists...and SECRETS! The book kept my attention and I listened in one day. The reader did a great job and I enjoyed her performance of the book.
I look forward to exploring other books by this author.
This was a cute summer read. I enjoyed the characters and the story. I felt like the characters were well written and relatable. I also enjoy that there was more to this story than just the romance, and that real life stuff was added in, like the MC's mother and their relationship issues.
I love this book!! I was a little worried going in, because I hadn't read the others in the series, but as I started I was able to be immersed in the world easily, and I really enjoyed the audiobook! I thought it was really well narrated and both voices suited the characters so well!! I can't wait to go back and read the other books in the series and get to know the side characters and the world built in it even further!
IM OBSESSED! I love this series and all of Elle Kennedys books! Loved the friends to lovers vibes in this and the romance was developed so well
Oh hell! The Summer Girl is a fantastic book. I had been waiting for this book, I love this series. The Summer Girl is a perfect ending to the Avalon Bay Series. This book gave me all the ooh's, ahh's and even the boo-ho's. Elle Kennedy is a great writer, her books are two thumbs way up.
There is so much to love about this book. I love the location, living by the sea sounds fun. I like the return of the characters from the other books. I like that Cassie is the fun, go as it flows kinda girl. I like that Tate is a sunshine type of person, go as it flows kinda guy. They are s perfect match. The ending broke my heart and then mended it back together.
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
Elle Kennedy’s Avalon Bay series has done nothing but get better with each book.
The Summer Girl is absolutely my favorite of the series so far. This book follows Cassie and playboy Tate. Their attraction is immediate. However, Tate doesn’t want to get attached and pushes Cassie away. Not to be deterred, Cassie proposes a no strings attached summer fling. But flings never work out the way they are intended and secrets never stay buried. The question is, how will they find their way back to each other once everything is out in the open?
Great beach read. Or, for those like me, any time of year read! Highly recommend the series.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for the ARC.
While this book is not a favorite of mine, The Summer Girl has all of the drama and spice that young adult readers will devour. Some of the dialogue comes across a bit cringy but it you like the smut, this is for you! The narrators were just okay for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
