Suiren's beauty has set her on a pedestal among her peers. When she meets quiet Kawasumi, she yearns to grow closer to him. For the first time, she wishes she was less an untouchable flower and more of a moving butterfly. Can Suiren overcome her shyness and reputation to speak to Kawasumi?

This has wonderful art and engaging characters. I look forward to watching Suiren grow.

The most interesting aspect of Like a Butterfly to me is the main character. In another series, she might have been a school idol or romantic rival, but this quiet, beautiful girl is just vibing. It's others around her that think of her as an unobtainable flower who doesn't talk to boys. That's an interesting point. It's only when she starts to break the impressions they have of her (by talking to a boy) that she is finally getting seen for herself.

I am a huge fan of suu Morishita and Sign of Affection, so when I saw she was coming out with a new series I was beyond excited to read it. That being said, I think this first volume fell a little flat. It became so repetitive about how beautiful everyone thought the main character was, and how she didn't talk. It almost felt like a volume of fluff and not much content. I hope that as the series continues and the characters start to develop we get more content. I can imagine this is going to turn into a sweet romance and I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #vizmedia for an eARC of #LikeaButterflyVol1 by suu Morishita to read and review.

Absolutely beautiful art work. It would be worth the read for the artwork alone. Cute main character that reminds me a lot of Komi from “Komi can’t communicate” and friend group. Not sure how I feel about the main male character yet, but I think he has room to grow into a more likeable character with more depth. Excited to read the second.

Manga has become very popular in the community that my library is in, so I have been looking for more to add to our collection. I am excited to add this to our collection and see people love it!

This was a sweet opening to a romance shojo manga, and the art was absolutely beautiful, but I was left feeling a bit 'meh' about it all. I prefer their later series 'A Sign of Affection,' at least based on this volume.

This book had so much pining and meaningful glances that they could probably animate the entire volume in one regular-length episode. The art is pretty enough and the premise fairly straightforward, I suppose it should be well-received by its target audience (of which I am not, I am aware). To end this review on a positive note: the supporting characters are wonderfully supportive to the introvert lead characters. As a bonus, the male lead wears glasses that are unique enough among the typical glasses-wearing character designs. (I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.)

Adorable manga that will most likely have me getting the next one! I love shojo and this one is no different. Like a Butterfly is like Komi can't communicate in that our main heroine has social anxiety, but people are drawn to her because of her beauty. Love interest helps out in that case, and I can't wait until the second one comes out.

Cute story! I'd like to see what happens next. This school seriously has issues with sexual harassment.

LOVE LOVE LOVE, this first volume just wasn’t enough!!!! This was so cute and wholesome I can’t wait to see how the relationship unfolds in this series. I thought I would find it annoying that Suiren doesn’t talk much but it made some points sooo funny. It also made her speaking points much more meaningful. This manga feel so soft and sweet, I will definitely be recommending to those who love romantic slice of life mangas.

5/5

Like a Butterfly focuses on Suiren Shibazeki, a beautiful but emotionally distant high school girl. This story is about her quiet realization and slow burn romance with Kawasaki, an unassuming yet strong boy.

I have definitely read a couple volumes of this manga before and I am so glad to be stepping back into its story. I love love LOVE Suiren. Usually in rom-coms we get this super bubbly outgoing FMC but I love Suiren’s awkwardness and shyness and overall lack of emotion. She’s so adorable and personally I love the SLOW burn of this story. Because slow it is.

I also love the art style and the design of Suiren’s character. It must have been fun creating her to be this “perfectly beautiful girl”. And her friends are also fun in design and personality. I can’t wait til we get more story about Aya.

I will most definitely be looking out for the future volumes. Maybe this time I’ll actually finish the series! Here’s hoping~

This is the beginnings of a rather sweet shojo, with a fun focus on two quiet individuals who find themselves gravitating towards each other. Suiren finds herself set apart from her peers due to her looks, causing her to be withdrawn and rarely speaking. She seems to want to change this when one day another quiet student, Kawasumi, saves her from a guy who was hitting on her, causing her to develop some feelings for him. The setup is a typical slice of life shojo plot, though I felt like there are other series that do it much better. The pacing here is slow and the emphasis on characters like Suiren and Kawasumi means there's a lot of just staring at each other. The tone feels a bit serious, there's a lack of humor and feeling that the teens are 1-actually teens and 2-actually friends, which makes some interactions feel weird or forced. I feel like the pacing will get better as the story progresses though, and would will likely pick up the next volume.

A supremely charming and sweet story about two shy and introverted individuals who experience falling for each other. Suiren Shibazeki is known as the beautiful flower of the school. She is mysterious, gorgeous, and never really talks. But Suiren has fallen for the quiet Taichi Kawasumi, a karate student who has captured her attention from the moment they meet. Yet both Suiren and Taichi are extremely introverted individuals who are bad at communicating yet the more time they spend together the more this first love is beginning to bloom. This was such a cute story and the first book in the series! I can't wait to read more about this adorable couple!
