Beautifully written. I loved how the girl looked to the tree as a friend and could connect things in her daily life to the things she saw the tree go through with the seasons. This book is a great reminder to all of us that we can learn from nature.
This book radiates a calm, quiet sense of hope. I don't know how much it will appeal to children, but I feel that some adults will want to share it with their young ones.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful. It takes us on a journey through the seasons as experienced by a town affected by food insecurity. The same little girl keeps visiting a favorite tree and watches all it provides as citizens are provided with things they share, community suppers attended together, and food gifts they raise and share. It’s a beautiful book about community, caring for each other, gratitude, and hope in hard times.
A young girl notes the changes in her family and community as she celebrates the changing seasons with her favorite tree, her friend. The natural rhythms of nature help keep her grounded and hopeful.
Beautifully illustrated.

Rhythm is a about one girl's journey of ups and downs through the seasons. The illustrations , words, and story were beautiful throughout this book. I feel like there are good talking points for readers of all ages.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for the ARC!
This was beautiful, from the writing to the illustrations, just beautiful. It's such a sweet story about important topics broken down in a way that children can understand. This is the best kind of kid's book - love it, want to see more like it!
Beautifully illustrated, this story about a little girl's steadfast relationship to the tree outside her home offers children a much needed message that times may be difficult but there is predictability and continuity in nature. Although the story does not conclude with a happy ending for children experiencing family hardships (parental unemployment, food insecurity) it does offer children the idea that they may have some agency in their lives.
This children’s story is so relevant to today and the struggles that children face daily. The struggles at home of mom and dad working together to keep a family going. It is good to see the mom having the job, as most of the time it is the dad that is working in stories. It is a reminder of hope for all ages that even though it may feel like a dreadful time of year, spring is coming and good things are right around the corner.
Rhythm was beautifully illustrated and a nice story about how difficult seasons come and go and that there are always ways to give back even when we don't have much. I loved the representation in this book as well. The illustrations were the biggest hit for my two-year old. The story was a bit above his level, but would be great for older toddlers/young grade school kids.
Thanks to the APA, Magination Press, and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
I enjoyed the atory. Wish a little more about poverty was talked about. Loved Thanksving part and nice lesson for kids.
Rhythm is a picture book that shows the seasons through the eyes of a girl and her tree. Each season the reader sees both a thriving natural world and a struggling town.
The rhythm of each season is described through beautiful illustrations, including two wordless pages that inspire discussion. The lyrical story is told consistently through the eyes of a young child by highlighting events and experiences that a child would notice.
This book would be an excellent tool for teaching inference and themes in an ELA classroom. It would be equally useful to discuss seasonal changes during a science lesson. Friends, family, poverty, and change are overarching themes, as is the interconnectedness of people and nature. The message is positive and hopeful despite the challenges faced by the characters in the story.
This book would be an excellent addition to a classroom or school library as well as a comforting story to read with children experiencing change or grief.
This is a lovely book about celebrating the seasons and nature under a special tree. We also see the characters family's growth and changes through the seasons.
The illustrations are really beautiful.
A lovely picture book.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
This was such a sweet and charming story about one girl’s observation of her community through the changing seasons and finding the rhythm of each season. This was a delightful read that really makes you want to go outside and observe nature. The story looks at the delightful things from each season and really would make a good read for kids!
*Thanks Netgalley and American Psychological Association, Magination Press for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
