OMG This book was adorable and a bag of chips. So so cute I can not wait to use it in storytime. The pictures are adorable Love love love love love it
Super cute and fun. Illustrations nailed it and made it over the top fantastic. Can't wait to share this with the kiddos in my life!
This picture book is great for teaching directions and procedural writing. The book is supposed to be about building a peanut butter sandwich. However, the book takes a silly turn with directions such as "teach the raccoon to juggle" A crew of animals help to make the peanut butter sandwich. Sure to be loved by young readers.
This cute and fun story is sure to be a hit with young readers! How can you go wrong when one of the main characters is a raccoon?! I also like that while the book is silly, there is also the ideas of paying for things and following a set of steps which are good lessons and things that I could see using as part of a lesson in my grade 1 classroom. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to read and review this book, I would definitely recommend it!
Here's an unusual way to make peanut butter and banana sandwiches, including actually making the peanut butter! The narrator enlists a crew of woodland animals to gather the ingredients for peanut butter banana sandwiches and some other necessary items to make sure the animal crew earns some money to pay for their supplies. Humorous!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
I always enjoy a good “how-to” book and this one takes the cake, or should I say sandwich. Fun, silly, perfect read-aloud for all ages.
Love, love, LOVE a good whimsical children's book and this one makes all the kiddos smile! A quick, fun read about how to make a peanut butter sandwich. I would love to donate a copy of this to my local elementary school as they have a "how to" lesson that this would pair with perfectly.
A picture book about making a Peanut Butter sandwich with raccoons. It's a great way to help kids to learn how to make a sandwich.
I'm a known fan of offbeat picture books so this one seemed right up my alley. I liked the idea of taking something simple, like making a sandwich, and breaking it down into extra steps. There's an emphasis on working together that is nice but some of the steps don't make much sense to me. Why in some cases do we grow, harvest, and process a plant to make one of the ingredients but in other cases they just go to the store?
I read this book with my two-year-old niece and she loved it! Thanks to the publisher for sharing the ARC with me.
Very funny picture book. Similar to How to Give Your Cat a Bath by Nicola Winstanley. I plan on reading this aloud for our best picture books of 2023.
This is a cute and creative story about making a peanut butter sandwich by animals. I enjoyed the humor sprinkled with a ton of wacky fun. It is a great way to introduce animals to young children. I felt the illustrations were the best part of the book. They were colorful with lots of movement on the page.
Thank you to NetGalley and Owlkids Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Who knew it took 17 steps? What a fun way to make a peanut butter sandwich! This makes a wonderful read a loud.
Before this book, I had no idea how complicated making a peanut butter sandwich was! This book goes through the additional steps a group of animals will need to endure to make a peanut butter sandwich including paying for the ingredients. A light hearted story full of imagination.
Peanut butter sandwiches are a favorite of mine, so I had to check out this book! It is alternatively about silliness, teamwork, following directions, and having fun. Anyone who reads this book will laugh out loud (or at least chuckle) – whether you like peanut butter sandwiches or not!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. My review is my honest opinion.
all of their favourite fillings? And when your friends are involved and the sandwich is made with enthusiasm and love, what could taste better? In Bambi Edlund’s How to Make a Peanut Butter Sandwich in 17 Easy Steps, this is indeed the recipe for the most delicious peanut butter sandwich. Part adventure, part creative cookery, and all fun, Edlund’s host of urban creatures come together in their quest to make a peanut butter sandwich.
How do you make a sandwich without opposable thumbs? It turns out that with a lot of coordination and teamwork, it’s a piece of cake! There’s no Little Red Hen in this story and everyone does their share, often in very unusual ways; picture a clog-wearing donkey stomping peanuts. But how does this ragtag bunch pay for all of their flavourful fixings? Not to worry, for these are responsible creatures and the racoon-turned-busker raises the necessary funds with an all-out juggling routine.
All of the steps are indeed numbered, making this a great book for counting. My favourite is Step 17, where everyone gets to enjoy the fruits of their labour, whether they be handed, pawed, winged or hoofed. If you’re looking for an entertaining story that will also teach your youngster about sequencing, cooperation, and sharing, then you’ll go bananas for this book.
4.5- Wow, this was cute. Who knew a PB sandwich could be broken down into so many steps? Love the illustrations and the animals' teamwork (and business sense haha). Highly recommend!
This book would be tough for elementary age students to follow. I did like the artwork. Although it was a tongue-in cheek look at the process, it was not something I would consider buying for our library.
Children are, at once, natural simplifiers and complete over-complicaters, so books like this charming title are totally up their alley, as our anthropomorphic cast uses the power of teamwork to make sure that they're all fed and happy.
Bambi Edlund opens her picture book with a list of all the things you'll need to make a peanut butter sandwich, including assorted animals, fruit that may or may not end up in the final product, and a bunch of seemingly unrelated items such as a fallen log and a set of dancing clogs. Seventeen might sound like a lot of steps, but that number provides a strong hook for young readers, who will want to know what could possibly be so complicated about something as simple as making a peanut butter sandwich?
Ms Edlund answers that question with aplomb, satisfying both animal lovers and fans of Rube Goldberg-like machinations. My middle child had great fun reading this book with me, with his favorite part being how the animals were all well-rewarded for their hard work in the end. My eldest child was inspired by our reading to start making his own list of how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, enlisting aforementioned middle child in pretend labors as they exercised both imagination and logic while playing nicely together.
The cartoony illustrations throughout are a delight, with a diverse cast of both the animal crew and the humans they must interact with in their quest for peanut butter sandwiches. Ms Edlund is great at capturing expressions and depicting joy on each page. My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed this quick, fun and surprisingly inspirational read.
