A quirky, kid-friendly book that will amuse all ages. The images throughout were stunning and the way it's worded is hilarious.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good addition to any kid's bookshelf, particular targeting towards the younger children. It's a delightful and funny story, making a sandwich has never been this entertaining. The illustrations are colourful and captivating.
This story is definitely a book that could be used to transition from whatever the kids are currently doing to getting them focused on lunch/snack time. The graphics made it cute and funny. If your children love peanut butter and banana sandwiches like mine, this book is for you!
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!
I loved this so much. It reminds me of a lesson that I used to do to make sandwiches in class. You would have students write down how to make a sandwich and follow those exactly. This is a fun silly journey on the "steps" to make a sandwich. The art is so much fun, bright colors and silly situations. I think my students would love it. I love it.
5 stars
Very fun and hilarious step-by-step way to arrive at the final goal of enjoying a delicious peanut butter sandwich. Creative and imaginative, using animals’ strengths and best qualities to work together, ultimately resulting in a tasty peanut butter sandwich…and a nap.
This is such a cute book! All the animals play an important part in making a peanut butter sandwich in 17 steps. Each set of animals has a specific task that they perform in order to get the sandwich done. This book is great for teaching kids about working together to accomplish a task. The illustrations are top-notch and an integral part of the story, making it easy for early readers to follow along.
I will be picking up a copy for my Little Free Library when this book publishes.
Thank you so much to the publisher OwlKids Books and NetGalley for an e-galley of this book in exchange for my review.
“Easy” Steps to Hilarity
How to Make a Peanut Butter Sandwich in 17 Easy Steps by Bambi Edlund is a quirky, funny book that children will love. A number of animals work together to make peanut butter sandwiches with their own methods. The illustrations are adorable. Perhaps my favorite line from the book is a footnote to “Polka until crunchy or smooth, as desired.”
This would be a fun book as a parent or teacher to use as a jumping-off point for so many fun activities. Since peanut butter is relatively easy to make, that would be fun to do after reading this. It could also be a fun lead-in to a brainstorming and creativity exercise. Even a discussion/activity about Rube Goldberg machines could be a follow-up. A writing task breaking down things that children do (or want to do) in their day-to-day life can demonstrate either their competence – look at all these little steps you had to master to learn to do this task! – or help them master a new skill.
My one disappointment with this book is that the fact that the animals are making *peanut* butter sandwiches. With this being a prevalent allergy, this fact could slightly limit what you could do with this book in the classroom or even at home. I do like that it is made explicit that the animals are earning the money that they use to pay for all the ingredients.
I definitely recommend this book. It is silly and fun and might get kids (and you!) thinking in new, creative ways.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, but all opinions are my own.
How to make a p.b. sandwich in 17 steps, is a silly book about animals trying to make a pb sandwich. It ends up taking 17 steps. I think my first graders would love this silly story!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher. What a wonderful and funny way to make a peanut butter sandwich! A great way to get your friends involved in get ready for a picnic. I would not have thought of clogs. Love it!
How to Make a Peanut Butter Sandwich in 17 East Steps is a funny, engaging story. I love how whimsical it is, and can't wait to see how kids might be inspired to make their own instructions for making a peanut butter sandwich! Thank you to NetGalley, Owlkids books, and Bambi Edlund for the ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily and is my own personal opinion.
This is a cute book, but wondering if there might be to many "steps" for younger children. If so, just save it till they're older! I thank Net Galley and Owlkids for the read.
Read along on how to make a peanut butter sandwich in 17 easy steps with cute, fun critters. Engaging, fun story, teaching kids how to make a sequence and follow through. Makes a great bedtime story. Thank you to NetGalley, Owlkids books, and Bambi Edlund for the ARC. This would be a great bedtime read! I know this book will fly off the shelves on just the title alone, but the children will be laughing and wanting to take it out to read over and over again. I can't wait to order this for my library!
This is a fun book! It kind of reminded me Ocean’s 11 kind of heist book. Each of the 17 steps involve the contributions and skills of several forest and farm animals. A great book to discuss sequencing and procedural text,
"How to Make a Peanut Butter Sandwich in 17 Easy Steps" by Bambi Edlund
Oh, this book is pure nonsense, whimsical fun nonsense!
I feel the best audience would be for reading circle. The children will giggle with delight.
Who would send the squirrels to the market for nuts? We all know some of the nuts may not make it home.
Then we actually need to crush the peanuts smooth, it's amazing what uncommon tools the author chose for this task. This book is comical and fun. No one will actually learn how to make a sandwich, but they actually laugh and giggle. I like this book. I think the children will like it too.
I received an electronic ARC thanks to Owl Kids.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A charming book about how to make a peanut butter sandwich for you and your friends to share.
Adorable illustrations accompany a text that at first seems unrelated to the final goal of creating a Peanut Butter Sandwich, however, those that can stick with the hilarious hi jinks will find an underlying story of friendship, cooperation and sharing which is perfect for sharing with the preschoolers and early elementary grades children in your life. Plenty of creative writing prompts here too for the older students. If you remember "Rube Goldberg" machines this book is for you.
it is a good book and one I think a lot of people will enjoy. This will be a fun read aloud with great extension activities to do with it. The silly animals will keep the kids laughing and engaged. I love that it highlights the importance of working together. The illustrations will also appeal to the students.
As a detail-minded person, I always break down tasks into little parts - but the idea of 17 steps to make a sandwich got my attention! Sure enough, though, that's what the cute little animals require to get the job done in this engaging picture book by Bambi Edlund.
Like any good procedural text, the story opens with a list of supplies needed to get the job done. To make a peanut butter sandwich, bread is a given, but a skateboard, miniature donkey, and wooden clogs? Children will love making predictions here (and checking them later). The story continues with 17(!) clearly labeled steps as the happy characters work together to get that sandwich made. The simple, pastel illustrations on every page will have kids giggling like crazy!
For teachers who can get through all the laughter, this book can provide great lesson support for teaching procedural texts, making predictions, and identifying important details. It's also a great example of teamwork - seriously, it takes 15 animals to make these sandwiches happen. Fun story! Thank you to NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was silly from start to finish. The engaging illustrations show animals preparing lunch for their friends in the most round about and amusing way. This tale begs to be read aloud with exaggerated expressions and voice. While some will probably scratch their heads and wonder what just happened, I think this book will be well received by children.
