This is a super cute book. I read it to my son and it kept him engaged. Highly recommended! Your kids will love it!

A beautiful friendship is born when Bear wakes up, hears singing, and meets Bird. Bird is practicing to be in the opera for a duet, and Bear decides he also wants to be in the duet so they practice together. When they audition, Bird makes the duet but not Bear. Bear is sad until Bird tells him we are always a duet, and so Bear goes to hear Bird in the opera.

I really wanted to like this book because I was a fan of the illustrations and the way the colors contrasted from one another. My favorite scene was when Bear looked up to locate the singing from Bird. As we get to the two animals singing with one being nowhere near as good as the other, I found Bird’s choice of words interesting when noting how Bear’s voice makes the “heart tremble” while Bird’s makes the “heart flatter”… I don’t know but it doesn’t seem nice to say though I get what is trying to be portrayed/where it’s going with the lesson of the story — it’s the wording for me that stopped me from almost giving it all the praise!

The illustrations are very pretty and the two characters are very sweet. Fun use of musical terms as well.

A cute book about a bear that wakes up from hibernation and celebrated the spring with his friends. I love the watercolor feel of the illustrations!

Animals getting together to preform an opera is magical. (I will say the bear sitting like a human felt like a weird choice but oh well).
