So wanted to like this. The heat was off the charts, but then halfway across the book, it's the characters that ran out of steam. The heroine just felt too immature and borderline silly in her reasoning, which just highlighted how young and clueless about real life she was. I also had a gripe because I didn't see them fall in love. Fall in lust, yes - then it was already weddings and a short marriage, and all this happened in a flashback, which just didn't 'connect' with the read.
Had so much potential, but the execution felt lacking as it just didn't deliver a romance where I was rooting for the characters
This one just wasn't for me! DNF at 56%
I have loved other books she wrote, so it may just be me on this one!
Thanks to Netgalley and Zoe York for the advanced copy to read!
This is a good book. The two main characters are Monica and Josh. They meet when Monica meet Josh and wanted to know everything about racing. He takes her on a date and answers her questions. There is an instant attraction. They fly to Las Vegas and while there they get married. Monica’s father breaks them up. Three years later Monica finds out their divorce didn’t happen. She flies to Canada where Josh is. They rekindle their love.
REBEL AT HEART was the perfect book to wrap up the Kincaid Brothers series. We met Josh in the first book and he’s kept his life before moving to Pine Harbour pretty much under wraps, but we finally find out why he’s back and why he has no interest in dating anyone. Maybe it’s because he could never get his ex-wife out of his mind…or maybe it’s because she actually shows up in his new town. Or maybe it’s because their divorce was never truly finalized and he’s, in fact, still married.
I’m always a sucker for a second chance romance so seeing Josh and Monica slowly but surely (and sometimes angrily) find their way back to each other was so satisfying. Readers could tell that they still cared deeply for each other, but their worlds and other circumstances kept them from being together. When Monica is forced to stay in Pine Harbour during a storm, they’re forced to have hard conversations about their lives and come to terms on how their whirlwind relationship started, and what they’re willing to fight for now. Like with any Zoe York novel, there’s heart, there’s heat, and there’s two people finding and fighting for each other again. Fans of the series will love Josh and Monica’s story!
A huge thank you to the author and NetGalley for a copy of REBEL AT HEART to read and review. Visit Pine Harbour today and fall in love with the Kincaid brothers!
This book had potential. There was plenty of scope to go deep into the background of the characters but it ended up being quite superficial. There was little growth for these characters and there was a lot of flashbacks that didn't add to the story.
It was an okay read but it could have been better. I received an arc of this study in exchange for an honest review.
Rebel at Heart by Zoe York is the final novel in the Kincaid Brothers. I have read some, but not all of the previous books, and I think they all stand fine on their own, but returning readers will get a kick out of seeing old favorites pop up.
Monica Fischer needs to make things right with the man who was her husband for two short, beautiful weeks. Before she lied and told him it was a mistake. But making things right means crossing the continent to find him and tell him that actually, no, her father’s high-priced attorneys didn’t successfully get them an annulment, and now they need a divorce. Josh Kincaid left his heart and his patience in California, three years ago. Now he’s trying to make a living as a small town mechanic. The last person he expects to show up on his doorstep is his wife. Ex-wife. Whatever. But demanding she leaves—immediately, without speaking to anyone in his hometown—doesn’t work. A spring snowstorm traps them together, and forces them to confront their lingering resentment, inconvenient longing, and some painful truths.
Rebel at Heart is a second chance romance that skirts around the things in that sub genre that usually don't work for me. We got to see the entire relationship with flashback that work well in the story, rather than feeling jarring which sometimes happens. I liked both Monica and Josh as characters and was glad to see Josh get his happy ending. The book hit a nice balance between them getting to know each other again and handling feelings, although I would have liked it if they spoke about the issues more, and earlier, rather than just stewing in their own hurt and fear. But, if they did that the book would have been much shorter. I enjoyed the tiny slice of small town you get in the story, but I feel like there was much less of that in this book than in the previous books in the series. I also liked the family and support system that was hinted at, but again that was less evident to those that might have not read the other books and know how much the brothers support each other.
Rebel at Heart is an engaging and entertaining read. A must read for fans of the author and series, and enjoyable for everyone.

Rebel at Heart is the fifth and final book in the Kincaid Brothers series. It is a second chance romance. I really enjoyed the story between Monica and Josh. This book was a quick and easy read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Zoe York for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rebel at Heart is the fifth book in the Pine Harbor series. This is the only book I’ve read of the series and it can be read as a standalone. It’s a second chance romance.
This story sadly wasn’t for me. It all felt very superficial. I needed more depth to Josh and Monica cause I wasn’t invested or interested in them. Their connection was very insta and all sex. It could’ve been improved with more depth to the story and dialogue.
It was great to be introduced to Josh’s family, his brothers and their wives but it wasn’t enough for me to enjoy Rebel at Heart.
There was some editing errors but since this was an ARC I can sidestep them and only look at the overall story which didn’t work for me.
Zoe York continues to put out contemporary romance that hits all the marks for me. Characters that seem real, some humor but not over the top, some angst and pining, and a romance that is both sweet and sexy. I've read the book prior to this but not the rest of the series and I think this does work as a standalone.
The set-up of this is poor little rich girl and blue collar car mechanic have a whirlwind romance and get married on a lark but things fall apart (falling for the boss' daughter goes predictably sideways), and the book gives us their second chance romance in the present time as well as the prior romance in flashbacks. She comes to the small Canadian town where he lives to ask for a divorce after discovering their original annulment didn't actually happen. I really enjoyed the slow burn as they get reacquainted and navigate the lingering hurt from their breakup as well as the attraction that clearly nevery really went away and continues to pull them together. The reasons for their rift all those years ago seem both very realistic and a little bit ridiculous; I understood why things happened the way they did but still wondered if it all could've been resolved sooner. But that's a minor quibble and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. The author has a really deft hand at crafting what's essentially a small Midwest town vibe (set on Lake Huron in Canada, so there's a lot of similarities to U.S. Midwest/Great Lakes) though I also feel like it's a bit of an idealized small town. Which is not a bad thing! If you like small town romance, this is definitely a very well executed story in that subgenre.
What really sold me on this book was the characters. Monica is very driven and curious but also thoughtful and not at all what one might expect from the rich daughter of a very successful businessman. She is trying to forge her own path and not get by on her family's money or reputation. And then there's Josh. well, he really is the perfect book boyfriend. He's got that incredibly sexy "guy who knows his way around a car" vibe and a true passion for his vocation (he's a great mechanic but what he really loves is restoring older cars), but he's not really an alpha male. He's also really into Monica from the get-go; he's attracted to her physically but what really pulls him in is seeing how she's passionate about her career in the same way he is. He falls pretty hard for her and it's fun to watch the hot mechanic be completely undone by the smart and potentially "off limits" daughter of his boss. His main flaw being that he holds stuff in as a protective mechanism, both with Monica and his family, especially in the present, when he is sitting with a lot of resentment over the break-up and feeling misunderstood within his family because he moved away to the US for a long time and because now everyone but him is settled down. I really liked how the progression of Josh and Monica's relationship also paralleled Josh improving and growing in his relationships with his brothers. Monica also has some family stuff to work through. So what you really get is a small town romance and a bit of a family drama as well. I'm really looking forward to going back to read the earlier books in this series given how much of the Kincaid family there is in this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC I received!
Whoooo wheeee what a ride! I loved the reverse broken heart trope here. Josh fell hard for Monica and when she ended their marriage he did not move on. Monica was also brokenhearted but thought she was doing the right thing at the time.
I enjoyed watching these two talk and come together in a more mature way than that initial flash of passion.
Even though this is the 5th book in the Pine Harbour Series, it was the 1st book in this series that I had the pleasure to read and I can say that it can definitely be read as a standalone. I had no problem understanding the connection of the characters from the previous books, but it makes me want to read about the other brothers in this series! There's a lot of tropes in this one - forced proximity, insta-love, small town romance, age gap, second chance - but it all worked together really well. I really liked Josh and felt really bad for him before I had the chance to really get into Monica's character, but once I did, I enjoyed her as well and was hoping for their HEA. Enjoyable and pleasurable contemporary romance by Ms. York. I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book through NetGalley.
As the final book of the series, we get Monica and Josh's story. They met 3 years ago with a quick wedding and a quicker annulment, the thing is the lawyers didn't make it happen and now they need to get divorced.
It was more a tell and not show story and it seemed to focus only on the sexy times and not so much on the background of the characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Zoe York is a must to me. I’ve bought and reviewed many of her books and I´ll keep doing it.

I loved this book! It has many great moments. The past is super steamy and absolutely romantic. It broke my heart to see the way her family destroyed that happiness. But now they are trapped in Pine Harbour and they are going to need to fight for a new chance together.
There are amazing sex scenes, strong dialogs and a lot of aghast. It was great to see many side characters from previous books. I highly recommend it!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Rebel at Heart is so entertaining, Josh and Monica were fantastic leads, I love Pine Harbour so much, the stories are fun, with drama, angst, chemistry and I love the sense of resolution at the end of this one, I do adore the Kincaid so you’ll be shocked to know I highly recommend this book and the series

Zoe York's spicy 'A Rebel At Heart' is for everyone who loves ...
Forced proximity (Yeay, snowed in!)
Instant crush to lovers to enemies to lovers
Small town setting in Canada
A mechanic falls (hard!) for millionaire heiress
Age gap
Second chance
Oh, and there's also a secret Vegas wedding, a Bachelor auction, and nursing someone back to health!
So, I mean, if you just like some of these then... WOW, you're in for a treat!
What's this spicy romance about?
They discover that they're still married, after what they thought was an annulment 3 years ago.
Back then, he was a mechanic in the company her billionaire father owns. They fell for each other - in secret, so hard, and instantly.
Things didn't go well, and now she's travelling to Canada to get them the divorce they thought didn't need to get.
He's still heartbroken and angry, she wants to make sure he's going to be ok.
'A Rebel At Heart' is the 5th and final book of the Kinkaid Brothers series that can definitely be read as a standalone.
Thank you to Zoe York and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair review.
Content guidance: parental neglect, bullying, explicit sex scenes of consenting adults, coarse language.
Josh melted my heart.
Josh Kincaid is the last Kincaid sibling to get his story and the final Kincaid Brothers series. When we first see Josh, he’s is a wonderfully broken man. He met and fell hard for Monica while he worked for her father and the family’s racing dynasty in California as a mechanic on the team. He returned home three years ago following a breakdown in their relationship and has been closed off since. Imagine his surprise when Monica shows up in Pine Harbor.
When you read a story by Zoe York you can expect the love of family, the quirkiness of the town, the angst and desire of the main characters, and some good hot steam. All these were here and made for a marvelous story. I love these brothers, this town, and the series surrounding the Kincaid, the Minelli, and the Foster families. If it weren’t for the snow, I’d move to this town right now and be friends with these people. I was captivated immediately by Josh and not only his dedication to the job, but his commitment to Monica and his family. Once he fell, he was all in! Monica was lovely too. She put Josh and his needs before her own and did what she thought was right to protect him no matter how misguided. They have so much hurt and angst to overcome and I found myself really rooting for them to open up like they did when they first met. Together, they are so hot they almost melted my Kindle. I love how his family banded together to help Josh and Monica find their way back together, and the way they just accepted and took her in. A wonderful end to the Kincaid Brothers series. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
The final Kincaid brother gets his story! What a great finish to this story line by Zoe York. I have read all of this series and all were great but I really enjoyed this one; it may have been my favorite. As always, York has a great writing style that keeps you engaged and you will fall in love with all the characters. The dynamic between the brothers and their wives is great.
This final book follows Josh and Monica. Monica is a racing heiress who originally wanted to learn the business so she could one day take it over from her father. Enter Josh who is older and helps runs her father's racing team. Josh is very against the idea at first but Monica persists and a secret affair starts between them. When they run off to Vegas to get married in private, her father disapproves and intervenes. An annulment happens, Josh moves home to Canada a bit bitter and quiet and Monica tries to move on. Fast forward three years to when both realize the annulment never happened. Monica wants to make things right but Josh just wants her out of his hometown. But as they start to resolve the past, Josh realizes he still loves Monica even thought hey come from different worlds. With some help from family and some soul searching, the two start to relearn each other and become friends. But can it be more? Can they overcome all the obstacles?
Overall a great read and I would recommend. I love the emotions from all the characters. Felt very real to me.
Rebel at Heart is my first Zoe York book--I can see why other AAR reviewers have so enjoyed her work. Very sexy, nicely funny, and with leads you'd like to hang out with, this book is a damn good time.
Josh Kincaid is minding his own damn business when, due to a social media moment that has very little to actually do with him, someone comments "He's married to the Fischer Racing heiress, you know." Josh couldn't give a sh*t about TikTok but this comment throws him. Hardly anyone knows that, three years ago, for two glorious weeks, he was indeed married to Monica Fischer but that marriage was annulled and he's never spoken to her again.
Said TikTok gossip has also found its way to the gossip papers where it catches the eye of Monica's best friend who alerts Monica. Monica is at first pissed--as an heiress she loathes being in news--but then, as she thinks about it, she's baffled. That marriage was annulled so why can reporters find any records of it being extant?
Less than one week later, Monica's on a private plane heading to Pine Harbour, the tiny Canadian town where Josh and his brothers--all of whom have had their own love stories in this series--all live. Her plan: tell Josh she's sorry about the annulment or lack thereof, explain why she left him three years ago, "make it right" between them, and then head off to Italy for her best friend's wedding.
This, however, is not what happens.
You see, three years ago, Monica, 21, was determined to prove herself in the world of racing so that one day she could take over her family's car racing empire. At one of her father's California garages, she sees Josh, an ambitious 30-year-old mechanic--he dreams of running his own high-end car refurbishment garage. She asks him to teach her about racing, and after they flirt for a while, even as Josh knows it's a very bad idea to do anything with the big boss's daughter, that night he takes her for a very fast ride. The evening ends on an overlook under the stars and before you can say start your engines, the two are exchanging life changing orgasms in the back of Josh's '69 Gran Torino.
Their insta-sex turns into insta-love which culminates in a spontaneous Vegas wedding just two weeks after their first tryst. But Monica suddenly requests an annulment, leaving their both their hearts in shambles. Why did she do this? Josh bets it's just because she was a spoiled rich girl. The reader is sure her evil father is to blame but whatever the reason, it's left Josh a wreck.
Thus, when Monica ventures to Pine Harbour, Josh tells her to get lost. And she tries to but there's a snow storm, a non-life threatening car accident, and the next thing you know the two are forced to share Josh's small apartment for three days. Guess what happens next?
Look, this plot may not break new ground, but York makes it bunches of fun to read. The pages practically sizzle with the scorching chemistry between Josh and Monica, both of whom are impossible not to cheer for. And once Josh's family--they're all pretty great--decide to get involved, the book becomes funny as well as smokin' hot.
Rebel at Heart is thoroughly entertaining and hits all the right notes. Josh and Monica both have to find their way to both romantic and professional happiness and they do so in ways that feel appropriate to the plot. The ending is satisfying (although there's an auction I could have done without) and lets Josh and Monica each wield the power they have earned. I very much enjoyed my time in Pine Harbour and look forward to reading other Kincaid love stories! (Here's hoping there's at least a novella about Bianca, Monica's mom, and the time she came to Pine Harbour.....)
Something was missing.
Most of the relationship building for this couple happened off page. It was tell and not show with flash backs and fast forwards and all that we really got between these two was sex. I liked the heat they had together and I really like the beginning with them meeting and teaching her about the racing world. It had a whole Fast and the Furious feel when they first meet but then it went into present day and lost all of its excitement. It was just too incomplete and most of the story was missing from this.
I enjoy this authors writing style, liked that she had both of them remain celibate during their separation, but everything else was just so bland.
Also never love the term honey for female arousal and a new cringe-term ‘puffy seam’ was introduced here to my disgust. Purple prose doesn’t do it for me in contemporary.
Anyway, lots of editing issues and some continuity or timeline disparities but since I had an arc copy, I hope those were corrected in the final edit.
Thanks to Victoria Editing and NetGalley for the copy, this was my honest opinion
4 ½ Stars for the mechanic and his princess!
I've been waiting for Josh's story and it did not disappoint! Throughout all the other books, I knew he was hiding something ... I just didn't think it was a wife. I was rooting for Josh and Monica even though I knew the odds were against them. Ms. York has this style of writing those small-town stories that make you want to live there. Even though this is a feel good sweet story ... the steam is off the charts. I can't wait to see what's next in Pine Harbour.
Josh fell hard and fast for Monica even though he knew she should be off limits as the boss's daughter. He just never thought he would end up back in Pine Harbour owning a garage. He dreamed of the car racing life or owning a car restoration business. Monica knew that no one would take the boss's daughter seriously, but she was determined to learn everything she could about the racing world as she was the sole heir to a racing dynasty. But when she fell in love with a mechanic who worked for her father, she knew deep down it would end badly. Josh and Monica were only married for a very short time before her father insisted the marriage be annulled. When he fired Josh and Monica said their marriage was a mistake, he had no choice to leave. Three years later Monica has to track Josh down and get him to sign divorce papers. All she has to do is keep her heart out of it.
