This book could be good for kids to relate to having big feelings and what to do with them. It gives a coping mechanism for stress.
This is an excellent children’s book that deals with topics of worries and anxiety and how to deal with stress in a healthy way.
The llama represents the child’s worries and the more worries he has the bigger the llama grows and the more chaos that ensues.
When the child decides to talk to somebody about his concerns, a weight is lifted from his shoulder and the llama starts to shrink back down.
A great read with helpful metaphors
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
This silly rhyming book touched on some very important topics. The illustrations were vivid and colorful. A good teaching tool for any classroom.
A cute picture book using a Llama to show that drama isn't a good thing. And how much trouble it can cause.
This is book all about worry and how our worries can grow really big and cause trouble for us. It gives tips on how to handle worries to make them not be so big. The illustrations are really cute. I love how the worry is depicted as a llama it makes it easier for young readers to identify with the deeper meaning and lesson of the book.
A great picture book focused on mental health and self-care. Everyone has a worry or two, but we shouldn't let it grow and become so large that causes more problems.
This hilarious book shows how to deal with a Drama LLama the best way with support and comprehension but most of all not by holding it inside and alone. It's a rhyming book with beautiful illustrations and is well-designed. I usually don't like rhyming books, but these are well-done and fun. Makes a great read-aloud.
A book that most certainly should be in all classrooms, libraries, and homes for it is important to manage our feelings in a healthy way.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this e-Arc.

This was a great way of representing anxiety and how all the small worries can take over your life and make things hard! A perfect picture-book to use to discuss worries with kids, and love how it also included the helpful tip on how to make it easier as well.
Definitely recommend!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Was a super cute story about how our emotions can stick with us and grow if we don’t stop and talk to someone. It’s important to understand our feelings and know it’s ok to talk to someone and this story puts it in perspective when the llama grows and causes a ruckus.

For Alex Allen, having everyday worries is a big deal. And stress just follows. But what happens when his worries manifest? It turns into a drama llama. But Alex's llama makes a mess of everything, from knocking dishes around to making a mess of the art projects. For Alex, all he needs is to express his feelings, and his llama shrinks down to an average size. It's a hilarious take on stress and anxiety as they form into a drama llama. Everyone deals with it in different ways, and it happens even to Alex. It is a heartwarming picture book of being yourself and how each one of us copes with the idea of stress in general. A fun read.

I laughed out loud at this adorably funny picture book. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and at times very silly! I appreciate how this book's artwork does an excellent job showing how anxiety can take on a life of its own. Drama Llama shows children what happens if we can't get our worries under control, and the importance of voicing our fears to a trusted adult.
Overall, a great addition to any library. I'd highly recommend Drama Llama. Books like these are what I use, as a behavioral health nurse, to teac6h kids about anxiety. Reading a book is a gentle, non-confrontational way to approach this very difficult topic. Talking with a trusted adult is important, but I wish this book covered deep breathing exercises.
Thank you, NetGalley and Source Books Kids, for providing me with a digital ARC for an honest review.
This is the cutest children’s book. My son and I both really enjoyed this story. The illustrations are adorable. I loved the discussion about different emotions and all the different things the drama llama did. The inclusion of how to calm a llama at the end of the book was great. I think this book would be a hit being read in a classroom with young children!
Y’all this book was absolutely precious! Being a mama with anxiety this was such a relatable read. My kiddos lovedddd the story and all the illustrations. If you have some little readers in your house, be sure to grab this one!
Thanks again Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for our honest feedback.
Stories about dealing with fears or anxiety are very popular right now in children's literature. The Drama Llama by Rachel Morrisoe visualizes a child's fears as a large, clumsy llama that gets in the way and makes his life difficult. And the bigger the fears grow, the bigger the llama gets and the worse the llama's behavior becomes. Ella Okstad's delicately colored illustrations are whimsical and humorous. When the llama's behavior becomes too much to bear, the child's teacher helps them to talk about their worries and to explain a few things about how feelings work. In the end, the llama is not vanquished but as the child learns to name and talk about their emotions, becomes something of a friend. This book could be a great introduction to talking about emotions with young children.
The Drama Llama was a really fun book with great illustrations. It helps kids to visualize their worries and anxiety and helps them know they aren't the only ones with those feelings and how to live with these feelings. I also appreciate how anxiety isn't being shown as yet another dark cloud/monster/etc.
This is a great book to look at worries and anxiety. The Llama is really funny, and a lot of children, young and old will be able to relate. A great book to talk about occasional worry and anxiety and how to deal with it.
Thanks NetGalley and Sourcebooks Jabberwocky for this ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and Soucebooks Jabberwocky for a copy of The Drama Llama in exchange for my honest opinion.
This story and the colourful graphics will appeal to very young children and older ones as well. The llama is adorable and can be used by teachers, parents and caregivers to explain worry and occasional anxiety to children.
Alex Allen is a curious child but sometimes his worries overwhelm him and they manifest as a cute pink llama. But when his worries get the better of him, the llama grows and grows until it's beyond his control. He has the typical worries that affect a lot of children: not knowing an answer at school, not knowing how to dance at a party, fighting with a sibling, or not being good at a sport.
The llama makes him act out and he tries hard to lose the llama by hiding from it, leaving it on a train or at the zoo, mailing it to a foreign country but that's not the way to make his worries go away.
Alex learns that it's okay to have worries and to feel upset - everyone does on occasion. He learns that he have to care for your feelings and that when you are stressed the best thing to do is to talk to someone. He realized as he talked about his feelings, his llama grew smaller and he felt happier and stronger.
The book has a page of tips to calm a llama which are very useful and can be adapted to a child of any age. Simple ideas that any child can learn: things like taking deep breaths, talking to someone that is your trusted person, doing things that you love: drawing, reading, listening to music or playing with your favourite toys, thinking about your happy place or you can write down your feelings and share them with your trusted person when you are ready.
"The Drama Llama" is one of the most creative, perfectly written picture book that I have read this year. It' ideal for primary grades since it includes rhyming, new vocabulary, captivating story line, and the social lesson that all students can relate to. It is going to be a repeated read and will be one of those books students bring to class to share. Love it!
Parent review: thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book. Honestly I’m blown away by how hitting this book is. A great children’s book explaining in little peoples terms about anxiety and how to cope with it in a way kids can understand and adults as well. The artwork was absolutely stunning looking like a mix of cartoon with beautiful watercolors. The story itself was funny and quite relatable. I will definitely be adding this one to my permanent shelf at home.
Kids review: (my daughter and I read this one together) The drawing were really pretty and colourful and happy. The characters were nice how they helped Alex, and the llama was a funny character. The story was helpful and really funny.
