I enjoyed reading every page of this book and couldn’t put it down. I was kept on the edge of my seat and ate up this twisty thriller throughout. It will be an easy sell to my thriller loving readers. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read it!
DNF. Oof. Uneven pacing, inaccurate medical info, characters that aren't developed well or at all, police behavior so unbelievable I lol'd. This is one of those books that I wonder how it got published.
This is such a page-turner! It pulls you in from page one. The story revolves around Dr. Kit Russeau, who runs a controversial women's clinic and finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery.
Quinn does an amazing job with character development, making you care about Kit and her fight for justice. There are a lot of twists and turns, keeping you guessing until the very end. The ethical dilemmas and moral gray areas add a lot of depth to the story, making it more than just a simple thriller.
If you're into suspenseful reads with strong characters and lots of surprises, The Clinic is definitely worth picking up.
This was a little bit of a miss for me, mostly due to the writing and the length, but I did enjoy the plot overall and appreciated the author’s input as a person in recovery.
The Clinic by Cate Quinn is a phenomenal novel. This thriller will quickly hook you and keep you reading to find out what just happened. This author meticulously plotted a thriller that has so many unpredictable twists and turns. It is a marvelous read that readers of this genre will thoroughly enjoy. Just when you think you have figured out this book, you realize that you have not figured anything out at all. Such a great book! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I really enjoyed this book!
We meet Meg, sister of superstar actress and drug-addict Haley. Meg is determined to find out how her sister died. She does not believe it was suicide as everyone claims. Meg decides to get herself admitted to the same treatment center her sister was at to get it to the bottom of it! As she struggles to conceal her identity as she gathers information, she is also struggling with her own kind of addiction.
I went in blind to this story and I suggest you do the same. It's gripping from the beginning and completely binge-worthy!
Huge thank you to #Netgalley & the publishers for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
The dual POV’s, the dark setting and the overall air of mystery was perfection! I loved the storyline and how it constantly had me guessing what was going to happen next. As a thriller lover, some plots are over done and this felt so fresh and intriguing! I highly recommend 👏🏼
What happened to my sister?
Sometimes sisters veer off into different worlds and drift apart in life. However, you are still sisters and when Meg’s famous actress sister Haily dies of what is noted as suicide at a remote rehab clinic where she had gone to cure her addiction, Meg suspects foul play.
She checks into the clinic herself to cure her addiction to pain pills. She soon finds it difficult to deal without her pills, but more than that she finds things are not right at this clinic. Soon she feels trapped and doesn’t know if she can escape.
It is a mystery thriller; it didn’t hold my interest all the time but had some good parts.
I enjoyed this book but did feel like it was longer than it really needed to be. I think some of the filler could've been cut back and it wouldn't have been missed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book "The Clinic" and all opinions expressed are my own. This was a strange story. It kind of dragged but I wanted to find out what was going to happen. Overall Okay book.
First off thank you to Netgally, the publisher and author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own. DNF @60%. I am not sure if this book just missed the mark for me or If my mood and the timing was not right. I plan to pick this back up again and see if my thoughts change. This is my first Cate Quinn book and I just found is slower than I usually read.
I loved loved loved loved every part of this book, except the ending. I seriously could not get enough of this book and when I was not reading it, I was thinking about it. It was a little spooky in the beginning, so I was a little disappointed that it did not end in that way, but that is just my personal preference so I did not take a star for that, HOWEVER, the last couple of chapters made me so mad because it ended so, so good and then it was nothing but psych babble. It did not really go with the rest of the book or flow very well and although it was okay, it just did not belong here in my opinion. it really took away from the ending of the book and was eye-roll inducing. And that's coming from someone who usually loves that kind of stuff lol other than that, this book was perfection. I will likely read it again in the near future to see if I can spot any more clues in the story now that I know who the killer is and I'm pretty excited for that re-read (and skipping the last couple of chapters).
The Clinic is a page-turning, dual-perspective thriller that explores the past and current lives of two sisters, Meg and Haley. It takes place in a luxury, "hush-hush" rehab center that caters to high profile individuals. On one side, Meg is addicted to pills to help cope with her job of helping casinos catch cheaters and loan sharks. She also overindulges in alcohol to help suppress emotions, forget her childhood, and an attack that almost left her for dead. On the other side, Haley is a famous singer who is seemingly living her best life until she dies in the Clinic from apparent suicide. Even though the two sisters haven't spoken in years, Meg knows something isn't right and Haley would never kill herself. Because of this, Meg takes it upon herself to go undercover by checking herself into the Clinic in hopes of discovering what really happened to Haley. Upon arriving at the Clinic, Meg is introduced to an assortment of current patients, Max (clinic psychologist), Cara (clinic manager), and Dr. Lutz (clinic owner). She quickly learns that no one is reliable because everyone is hiding something...including Meg. But who can she trust and what really happened to Haley? The rest is up to you to unfold.
I really enjoyed this book for various reasons - first, I've been in a multiple month reading slump, and Quinn's book certainly helped me get out of it. Second, I'm a sucker for dual perspective works, and a work in the thriller genre is a big bonus. Third, I enjoyed how many twists and turns there were, but I definitely found myself getting annoyed at some points because what?! Fourth (and not any less important), Quinn based the story on her own experience as a patient in rehab, and because of her knowledge, I think this was a very interesting approach to trauma and addiction. Also, can we talk about the unconventional, twisted treatment options provided to patients at the Clinic? Wowza.
Anyway, thank you to NetGalley, Cate Quinn, and Sourcebooks Landmark for the copy of this book for my honest review. I very much look forward to reading more by this author!
I really loved the plot of this story. Meg's sister Haley overdoses in a remote, high-end rehab clinic. Meg doesn't believe she really overdosed, so she goes undercover in the rehab center to try to find some answers.
The story is told through 2 perspectives - Meg and the administrative manager Cara. There are a few other patients that you get to know, but not too many that they are hard to keep track of.
I didn't love Meg's character, but I really enjoyed the story. It was suspenseful and I loved the ending.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I give The Clinic 4/5 stars.
This started out to be a great read but got very wordy and repetitive which was disappointing. I was definitely full of twists and turns but more unrealistic than I like.
This book was enjoyable but felt a little long (unnecessarily long). While I was engaged throughout, cutting about 100 pages, especially in the second quarter, would have improved the pacing. The story takes time to build up, but once it does, it becomes quite entertaining.
The book features multiple points of view, with Meg being the most compelling and significant character. The narrative addresses addiction and mental health, which may resonate strongly with many readers. The rehab centre, The Clinic, was effectively creepy and atmospheric.
Overall, *The Clinic* feels more personal than other thrillers I’ve read recently, and I’m interested in seeing what Cate Quinn writes next.
This book was super good. I read it on NetGalley and also it was a book of the month pick for me.
This follows Meg who goes undercover at a rehab to find out how her sister died, who is also a celebrity. She thinks it’s suspicious and goes into the rehab to uncover what really happened. I gave this book a 4.5 stars.
NetGalley Review — my rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
“The Clinic” by Cate Quinn has been on my TBR for awhile (it was published at the end of January! 😱) and I kept putting it off…and now I’m mad at myself for it!
Meg is an addict entering rehab…the same facility where her sister just died. She goes in undercover to see if she can figure out what happened to her sister, Haley — is it true? Was it an overdose? Or something more sinister?
Immediately sucked into this book with the short chapters and dual POV — knocked it down a star because I felt like it was missing just a teeny something (and the twist wasn’t twisty enough for me) but overall, I quite enjoyed this one!
Give it a read if you like psychological thrillers! Out now!

I’ve been in such a reading rut that I have decreased the amount of books I read by A LOT! I grabbed this one on a whim and surprisingly really enjoyed it! Thriller/mystery books usually don’t surprise me much anymore with their twists because a lot of them are extremely predictable! This one gave enough story to keep me hooked without letting me figure out exactly what was happening. I really appreciated the authenticity of the rehab experience woven into this book as well. I could definitely tell the author knew first hand what the process was like and it gave the book an amazing foundation! Definitely recommend reading!
Meg and Haley are two sisters who cannot be more different. Meg works in sting operations to catch fraud in casinos. Hayley is a famous singer. The only commonality they have is addiction. Meg is on the verge of losing it all to her addiction when she finds out Hayley has died at a prestigious and secretive rehab. Meg knows her sister wouldn’t commit suicide so she begins investigating by admitting herself.
I love thrillers that have messy rich people and this book has loads. The characters are so unlikeable you don’t know who is good or bad. I enjoyed the book. It was tough with the pacing but pushing through makes it worth it.
