The Clinic was a good read! I devoured it yesterday all day. Including stop!

Megan is ‘researching’ her sisters death. She goes undercover (sort of) at a high end celebrity rehab center where her sister died. It gets crazy as she uncovers the details little by little.

This has lots of fun stuff I love in thrillers.

🖤 Locked in!
🖤 Weird therapy (experiments)
🖤 Suspects are many
🖤 Unlikeable characters
🖤 Healthcare and insurance stuff

This book really goes deeper than a typical locked in thriller. It goes hard for healthcare and rehab stuff. It got a tiny bit convoluted towards the ending and I was eye rolling but I still really was
Invested and loved it!

Thanks for my early copy here. Def worth the read.

Enjoyed this book immensely. I binged it in one night; it's one of those stories I couldn't put down and just HAD to finish before I fell asleep!

The story opens with the death (or was it murder?) of a young, famous actress named Haley at a remote rehab clinic for celebrities. When her sister Meg finds out about her unexpected death, she rushes to the clinic to figure out just exactly what happened. Soon Meg is discovering that not all is as it should be at the clinic, with its odd staff and colorful bunch of patients. She also has her own addictions she's struggled with & just maybe, she'll be able to process through the mysterious fate of her sister while facing down her own personal demons.

The story itself is fast paced and engaging, with well fleshed-out characters. Fun read!

As someone who has never experienced withdrawal or rehab I loved the fact that the author used her own experiences while writing this book. Although I caught onto the “big reveal” I could not put this book down. I loved the twists and turns. It was really well executed and I’d love to see an additional book with meg as the main character again. I loved her flaws. I loved the execution. It was fantastic! I will be posting my review of this book on Instagram this week @julesreadsalot. Really really well done mystery thriller.

These are all the makings of an original thriller by Cate Quinn, The Clinic.

When Meg goes undercover in a rehab center to get to the bottom of her sister’s death, she didn’t expect to be faced with her own demons and her own diagnosis that sends her for a loop. We see the interplay of good and evil with a story told from two points of view – Meg and the rehab manager. There is a dichotomy of wellness vs. greed for money. And a twist you might not see coming.

Be sure to read the author’s note for a look inside the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for introducing me to this title from Cate Quinn.

Plot was just ok, although I did find characters interesting, thought it was just predictable. Thanks to NetGally for advance copy

The pacing was everything one once when they are reading a thriller. It was a page turner, and I had to know what was going to happen. So glad to have gotten this one.

The author has such a perfect way of writing each chapter that you cannot put it down. This book surprised me by also highlighting inner growth alongside traditional thriller!

So amazing and definitely recommend

The Clinic was a propulsive thriller. I could barely put this one down. If I didn't have to work or adult, I probably wouldn't have.

I absolutely love a thriller set in an isolated locale with a closed circle of suspects. The setting of The Clinic just added to the mystery and suspense. A huge old mansion renovated and turned into a state of the art rehab facility for those who can afford it, located on an island in the Pacific Northwest.

Our main character, Meg, has just found out her sister died in rehab. Meg had received a message from her sister, Hayley, before she died, and now Meg wants to check into the facility to solve her sisters death. Meg is also an addict herself. She uses her addiction to quiet her emotions and keep the memories of what happened to her as a child deep below the surface so she cannot remember. Not only is Meg trying to solve Hayley's death, but she also has to go through the process of rehab herself.

Nothing is as it seems. Who can Meg trust? Can the reader even trust Meg, or is she an unreliable narrator. What about the manager of the facility? The nurses who seem more like mob enforcers? The doctors who plan the treatments?

There are so many twists and turns, and they left me constantly questioning what I thought to be true. Plus, there was some pretty heart-pounding suspense.

It's definitely one of the best thrillers I've read this year! I definitely recommend for those who love a good thriller.

But, definitely check for trigger warnings. There are some parts that could be difficult for some to read.

The story does deal with addiction and trauma, and there is a lot of discussion around personality disorders, which I found incredibly interesting.

Pub date: 1/23/24
Genre: suspense/thriller
Quick summary: When Meg's pop star sister Haley dies in rehab, Meg realizes that going undercover is the only way to find the truth. Meanwhile, rehab employee Cara begins to suspect that all is not well at the facility.

The cover of this book is a stunner! I was excited to follow Meg and Cara through their investigations - I think it was a smart decision to include both an insider and outsider perspective in the story. I was pretty intrigued through ~50%, but then I started to wonder why the book was so long. 448 pages is just too long for a thriller IMO. The twists were surprising but felt very over the top. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the twists, but I know a lot of other reviewers enjoyed them!

Some books are good and some books are memorable and this book is both and then some! I absolutely devoured this in one day and couldn’t believe the many shocks and twists it took. While many of the conclusions I drew were likely based on my own traumas, Cate Quinn truly took me on a journey and I’m excited to check out some of her other books!

This was my first book by this author. Anyone who knows me and how I love to read knows I love short chapters… this book delivers on that and packing in a ton of information and twists in every chapter.
While this book kept me engaged and guessing…. I had a few issues with the concept/storyline that nagged at me. Kit was only until the end I read the authors note and felt different about the issues I had.
I personally feel that any author who has an experience that molds the direction or design of a book the authors notes should be presented first to give the reader the perspective of the book.

The Clinic by Cate Quinn
.
Meg’s sister, Haley, has just died while at a swanky rehab. The death is ruled a suicide, but Meg knows her sister and is convinced that she was murdered. So she enters the rehab herself to discover what really happened to Haley.
.
What I liked:
-This was a REALLY suspenseful book! It did a great job of keeping me on the edge of my seat and slightly stressed out/paranoid the whole time.
-I enjoyed the dual POV between our hero Meg and the manager of the rehab, Cara, who gives us mor eof a behind the scenes view of the rehab.
-I loved Harry. 💙
.
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Everytime I put this book down I kept thinking about it. It could have been a five star book but the ending went slightly off the rails, and so I didn’t feel like it was five.

PHEW! This one was a wild ride! It is so refreshing to read a thriller that actually THRILLS you! The twists and the ending were actually unpredictable to me, which I find truly hard to come by!

Also, can we talk about the cover choice? SO good!!

My only qualm with The Clinic would be that it felt like we were missing pretty significant backstory in the beginning, and the way it's discussed between characters it almost feels like we're on book 2 of a series. Meg especially, with what happened in her past. It was a little confusing to continually read about an incident that happened as if we already fully know about it when we don't.

I must say- I was immediately captivated by the cover. It creates the perfect spooky vibe which I always love in a book. The book itself was packed with mental health and psychological issues within the clinic. This dark and twist book was overall really intriguing even though it did have a bit of a slow start. I would give it 3.5 stars

I. Love. Cate. Quinn.

After her book THE BLACK WIDOWS I couldnt WAIT for another one. This did not disappoint. Cate Quinn is becoming a must-read author!

The Clinic is my first foray into the world of Cate Quinn, but it won't be my last. (aka *immediately adds Black Widows to reading queue). On its face, The Clinic is a story about sisterhood -- namely, how far one sister will go to find out the truth about the other. However, there are a multitude of layers within this overarching story, including addiction, its effects (on the addict and others), and treatment. Quinn's beautifully creepy backdrop also sets the tone for the entire novel - sometimes beauty truly is only surface deep. A fast-paced novel with a few added twists and surprises, this was one of my favorite books so far in 2023!

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley. It did not disappoint. I work in a field where I assist people in finding recovery and maintaining sobriety. This book was a definite thriller with believable stories and struggles. I’ll definitely recommend this book to others. It was well researched and very suspenseful!

3.75 ⭐ rounded up

Cate Quinn takes us on an interesting journey through addiction, sobriety, mental health and psychological issues in this dark and disturbing clinic on the Pacific North West coast. Meg works at a casino undercover catching cheaters. When she hears that her famous sister has died during another stay at a rehab clinic, she can't bring herself to accept Haley's death. Determined to find out what really happened there she infiltrates the clinic posing as an addict. Unfortunately that isn't far from the truth as Meg is battling her own addiction. Will she be able to discover what happened inside the clinic? Was it Suicide? Overdose? Murder? Who can she trust?
She is about to find out that there is so much more going on inside The Clinic.

I really enjoyed this book even though it started off a bit slow, you quickly find yourself engrossed in the characters and trying to determine who is lying and why. With many twists and turns I found The Clinic to be a wild ride through some dark and disturbing minds.

I didn’t love this one! The story was interesting but the writing style wasn’t for me. I would however consider checking out this author in the future.
