One of the best books I’ve read in a long time, let alone this year.
Meg learns that her sister, a famous pop star, has died in rehab and she knows there’s been a mistake. Her self-centered sister would never commit suicide, let alone use the method they accused her of. Meg decides to go undercover in rehab to get answers as to what really happened to her sister. There, she’s faced lies, deceit, and someone who means her harm. Meg must face her repressed memories and flashbacks from childhood to face her own demons; only then will she find out who murdered her sister.
This book is full of twists and turns, I couldn’t put it down! There were multiple times I thought I had the ending figured out until the author proved me dead wrong. By the last page my jaw was on the floor and I was sad that it was over.
If you’re considering buying this book, DO IT! You won’t regret it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for a digital ARC in return for my honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book!
While I enjoyed the short chapters, I found it hard to connect with the characters. I didn’t really like any of their personalities which made reading this less enjoyable. I also didn’t find this novel very suspenseful or thrilling. There were plenty of plot twists, but most of them were predictable.

There are so many twists and turns in this psychological thriller that I never knew where I was going next.
A sister checks into what is truly a bizarro clinic for the wealthiest clientele seeking to break drug and alcohol addictions. She never knows who to trust and everything changes constantly.
I really enjoyed this book. It raise a few interesting points about rehabilitation methods. Ethical boundaries, healing trauma and bringing patients to the point where they work to heal the wounds that led to their disease are interesting topics.
I really enjoyed this read

Disclaimer : This is going to be a long review due to my personal experience with addiction.
I have read many fiction novels before involving addicts in some capacity but none go so far indepth with it than this one did. First and foremost, I applaud and congratulate this author for her sobriety. It seems that her experience did well for this book seeing that it was way more accurate and detailed than anything I have previously read. The only inaccuracies I did find were minor : the protagonist pretends to sniff coke in the beginning and then someone with her talks about naloxone ( misspelled naxolone in this book), which is not for coke, it's for heroin or other opioids. It reverses the effect of it in case of overdose. Also, while the descriptions of opioid withdrawal was pretty accurate, the timeline was not. It doesn't start getting better after two days, the worst is about a week with many symptoms even lasting a month or more if someone is in as deep as this character was. l personally could not get out of a bed for about a week, let alone walking, talking, or doing other strenuous activities. Lastly on this topic, I may be even wrong but I have never heard of a rehab that does not do a strip search and/or metal detector. That is the first place the authorities in inpatient will think to check is on your person. I am in no way trying to be petty. I am a recovering addict myself and when I read something not completely accurate, I impulsively feel the need to just inform anyone who is reading it. Maybe that last one was solely for the novel's sake and story itself. That said, this book was unique, bold and memorable. I loved that the author put this mystery in a rehab setting. The detailed description of someone experiencing withdrawal was so impressive, I couldn't have explained it better myself. As it was being explained, I vividly recalled so much from my past and some things that the protagonist said could have been words taken right out of my mouth at that time. Then there were the characters in this with their rehab romances that were so spot on it was comical to me thinking back on my own experience, seeing what happens in that kind of setting. Also, I loved that the shuffle issue was discussed in this. Trapping people in that cycle, from the streets to rehab, to a sober/halfway house, back to rehab, and again and again it goes. It is a brutal, almost impossible system to get out of and I love this author for bringing it to light with her book. And of course, there was the mystery aspect in this. Each character unique in their own way, with traumatic pasts and clashing personalities. It kept me turning the pages, intrigued and wanting to know what happens next. Never in a million years could I have guessed the reveal in the end. Overall, this is more a personal review as it was something I could connect to on a level not everyone can. I give this four solid stars and will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for this ARC.

Incredibly captivating and help me turning the page and wanting more. I hate I have to wait so long to shout this book from the rooftops and have friends buy, because everyone needs to read it.

Delightful read, mysterious and gripping. I enjoyed the themes at play and the characters were well-written. Highly recommended, especially to thriller fans.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Publishing for an ARC of this book!
I typically love a novel with unreliable and unlikeable characters—and this has plenty!! We follow two POV between Cara, the manager at the clinic, and Meg, a patient who has checked in to learn what happened to her sister. The book started off a little wordy and slow for me, but then it picked up about halfway through and I devoured the rest of it! I will say, some of the twists were excellent and I didn’t see them coming. However, others were a bit far fetched for me. From a psychologist’s perspective—I thought many parts of the themes regarding trauma, mental health and addiction were well done, though.
One thing I would have liked to have more emphasis on was the police and their role in the story. I feel like that would have added a lot! Overall, I enjoyed this one!

The Clinic had me questioning everything I read. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you wondering until the end what is going on at the clinic.

I really enjoyed reading this book and all of the twist and turns it had. I can't recommend this book enough. It constantly kept me guessing and was surprised to the very end, I liked all of the characters(well most of them) and how the group was there for each other as the drama unfolded. I think the author did a great job keeping the book realistic. I recommend this to anyone looking for a great vacation read.

First and foremost, I had the highest and upmost expectations when I went into this book. Let’s just say that It definitely held up to my expectations. Like, wow. What a ride! I love a good mystery/ thriller who did it book. Especially when it’s not expected.
This book also dives into the world of personality disorders, addiction, and opioid abuse and I found it very intriguing because I’ve never read many books regarding these topics. Needless, to say this book kept me on my toes until the very end to the plot twist. Highly recommend. This is my book I’ve read from this author and I will defiantly be pre ordering this book just to add to my collection on my shelf.

Cate Quinn has delivered a novel that not only did I throughly love, but also was so intrigued by the characters, I’m putting this one in my reread pile!

WOOOOOOW!!
This book was INCREDIBLE. First of all, if you are a short chapter girly, this book is for you! I kept saying one more, which in turn led me down a 4 hour marathon that certainly did not disappoint.
This is one of the books I could see in my head like a movie. It was wild. I will say I am typically NOT a fan of unreliable characters, but I promise, give this one a chance!
Meg is an undercover poker expert who is kick ass at busting sharks. She learns her sister, Haley Banks, a famous singer, in rehab has passed away. The circumstances are suspicious. While Haley is in fact an addict, it’s not heroine, but a suspected murder. Meg decides to go undercover and check into the rehab to find out more about her sister’s murder. While at The Clinic, Meg is having a difficult time as an addict herself. One of her roommates has killed her sister and she needs to get sober to get to the bottom of it. Through her detox, she is learning things about her past, herself, and her sister. Will she uncover the mystery?
I did not predict the twist in this one. Like my mouth actually dropped open and I had to reread the page like 4 times! I am super looking forward to this publication to grab a physical copy for my own library.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Sourcebooks publishing and the author for this ARC digital copy!

Meg works for a casino in L.A. catching people who attempt to cheat. One day, reports surface of the death of her famous sister, Haley, at a remote rehab center where she was forced to go and try to get her addictions under control. Meg doesn't believe the whispers of suicide, but what's the best way to find out for sure? To check in to the rehab center herself and investigate. What she doesn't expect is the battle with her own addictions and what it will take to face the truth of what is uncovered.
This book was a slow start for me, but it did pick up and capture my attention. On the editing side, there were some things I noticed. Was it enough to stop me from reading this book? No. There were some fantastic twists and fascinating developments. On the surface, the clinic seems like a great place to try to get back to yourself. In the depths, though, you really never know who you can trust or what is going on in someone elses head. Meg has a slight advantage with her poker experience, able to identify tells in some peoples behavior. Will it be enough?

This book was a slow start but turned out to be a thrilling book with twists I never saw coming. If you like intense chapters and jaw dropping twists then this book is for you.
TW: Drug Use, Overdose

This feels like a good fit for our libraries. Stopping at 5%, but based on what I read, it has a good pace, quick grip on the reader, good level of action, and a cool premise that is likely to loop in a lot of our action readers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the ARC.

This book had me guessing at every turn. I loved the double POV of Cara and Meg weaving this thriller through their very different points of view. The twist at the end was great and a total surprise. The setting for a creepy rehab in this book was excellent and added to the background thriller vibes, you could picture the remote rehab in your mind and how the people would feel being strapped there.

The clinic was a sordid tale of deception and overcoming the odds in the face of countless traumas. Meg is a great main character that you want to get well. You are rooting on her side the whole time. There were so many twists and turns and I didn’t expect any of them!

What a captivating thriller! The storyline was excellent and the characters were great. I highly recommend this to thriller lovers!!
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

Overall this is a good book. Meg’s sister died in rehab and its ruled a suicide. Since Meg doesn’t believe it she checks herself in to investigate. The story is told from multiple points of view but in a clear and non repetitive manner. A few of the twists are predictable but that doesn’t take from the story. Don’t forget to read the author’s note.

The Clinic
The clinic by Cate Quinn is a thriller novel that is set at a remote rehab location for the rich and famous. The story is told from two perspectives. One is Meg, sister to Harley Banks, who died while at this rehab facility. The other is Cara, the manager of the facility.
When Haley Banks dies, this causes suspicion. The police begin to investigate what is deemed a suicide, but are met with resistance from the owner, Dr. Lutz.
Struggling with her own addiction to alcohol and oxy, Meg decides to investigate the death of her sister herself by admitting herself into this rehab facility. While there, she comes up with many theories of what may have happened to her sister. Some of them are more believable than others. (She’s not always lucid due to her detox.)
Cara begins to question what really happened when Dr. Lutz is resistant to the police. While there, she discovers some of the stuff that was being covered up, as well as Dr. Lutz’ past.
All in all, I found this to be an enjoyable book. I wasn’t real impressed with the ending. Dr. Lutz didn’t really face any consequences for his actions and I think Meg and Haley’s relationship was rather strange. Also considering that the police thought that the suicide wasn’t actually a suicide, they were rather hands off most of the story. It seemed like their investigation dropped off once Meg was admitted.
I did enjoy the themes of addiction and trauma. Though, Meg’s trauma was weird. It was like she didn’t actually face any actual trauma, but her young mind molded the events at the time to make it seem like she was traumatized. The Matthew Price guy and the Queen of Hearts just didn’t really fully fit into the story for me. However, I think addiction was covered pretty well. Being sober is hard, and that’s evident in this book. I’m sure this was in part due to the author’s own struggle with addiction.
