This was my first foray into the world of Dr Nell Ward. A body has been found on the heath and it's Nell who has found it. DI James Clark is shocked when he first sees the body as there is a striking similarity to Nell and he begs her to be careful.
The detective team discover that this is the latest in a string of murders over several years that have never been solved.
When three new colleagues turn up to work with Nell, something is off, but she can't figure out what. So begins a tale of reptile relocation, Rav's recuperation and retribution.
A quick easy read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
A Generation of Vipers is book 4 in the Dr Nell Ward Mysteries series and it is another great instalment. I love the characters and the plot keeps me wanting to read more. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Embla Books for my ARC.
I loved this book and found the aspects of conservation and ecology fascinating. I wouldn’t call this a cozy mystery. It was very entertaining, and at times, quite gripping. Hadn’t realised that there were 3 prior books in the series. Will have to go back and read books 1, 2 and three in order.
Highly recommended.
Thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining mystery and snakes don't bother me at all so even better. This series just keeps getting better a real page turner. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you NetGalley and Embla Books for my approval to read and reivew this book.
Dr Nell Ward book 4
I find myself looking forward to catching up with Nell and the other characters. It's like meeting up with old friends!! Nell is a strong and feisty herione and she works hard to help solve the crimes. I look forward to reading more of this series.
I have loved this series so far and this added to the collection. Was good to read adventures with Nell. Looking forward to the next instalment.
This book picks up where the last in the series left off, being set just months after the last book ended, so it does reference several things that happened in that book, but can be read as a stand-alone as it doesn’t impact on the mystery. I wish this was set later in the future, as this series is starting to have a major midsommer murders vibe, with all these murders happening in close succession and close proximity to each other. It’s a good mystery, but I must admit to skimming some parts where it felt slow
I absolutely love this series and, despite the snakes (shudder) I enjoyed this book. The conservation knowledge is fascinating and brings a true life feel to these stories with the reality of facing all weathers to perform this vital work. The protagonist, Nell, is a true heroine, brave, loyal and resourceful. I’m already looking forward to the next book.
Overall I enjoyed this book. It was well written, and the pacing was good. I guess the murderer at the 15% mark and I suspect anyone versed in reading crime will have the same issue. But still, the plot was entertaining and it kept me reading to see how the finale would develop.
"A killer is hiding in plain sight, like a snake in the long grass...
When Dr Nell Ward stumbles across a woman's body amongst the purple heather on Furze Heath, she was on the lookout for nests of poisonous adders.
But something is lurking out here far more dangerous than vipers.
A cold-blooded killer is on the loose and this is not his first victim. As DI James Clark begins to investigate, a pattern emerges pointing towards this being the work of a serial killer. Every victim shares the same physical characteristics - all of which are a match to Nell herself.
As Nell is pulled into a tightly coiled mystery, she can't help feeling someone is tracking her every move...
Can she unmask the murderer before they strike again?
A completely gripping and page-turning cosy mystery, perfect for fans of Richard Osman, Janice Hallett and Robert Thorogood."
I KNOW the title is based on a famous quote, but it's also an episode title from Lewis, and that makes me happy.
Snake In The Grass..,
After a fabulous start to this new series in ‘A Murder of Crows’, and then the follow up two books in this well written and engaging series, we are now treated to the fourth entry in the Dr Nell Ward series of mysteries. Nell, an ecologist highly regarded in her field, is in search of snakes - nests of adders to be precise- but instead stumbles, not on a snake in the grass, but on a very dead corpse. It’s soon clear that a serial killer is on the loose who likes similarities in victims - unfortunately for Nell, sharing the same characteristics as she. With a host of suspects, a plethora of motives and subterfuge galore.- the action is non stop. Billed as a cosy mystery but is so much more with ecological references and police procedural aspects aplenty. With a credible and colourful cast of characters, a compelling plot and a solid narrative this is, once again, a wholly immersive one sit read.
I LOVED this book! This cozy mystery was absolutely phenomenal. There is previous books which I am going to go and read. This it so amazing! I can't stop thinking about this.
I just reviewed A Generation of Vipers by Sarah Yarwood-Lovett. #AGenerationofVipers #NetGalley

To paraphrase Indiana Jones, "Why did it have to be snakes?" Nell is working overtime to complete an ecological survey on time and within budget when she stumbles over a dead body. The corpse calls to mind several cold cases that are a high priority for her ex James' team to solve. There's no lack of potential suspects as the new employees at Neil's firm are all behaving suspiciously.
The last thing Nell wants to do is track down a murderer--the only advantage to the job was its proximity to Rav's hospital--but she must join forces with James to winnow the pool down before th eKiller strike again! Another engaging read in this series from, Sarah Yarwood-Lovett, filled with realistic details about the work of ecologists.
