Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. This book was fast paced and full of intrigue and an great plot.
Overall, pretty good. Love at first sight, damsel in distress, and women in STEM! I did get annoyed at how many times the author had the FMC explain a deepfake. I get that she had to tell lots of people, but I didn't need to read it each time. This was a pretty quick read too if you are looking for a weekend binge.
Riley Robinson working at her desk for a national agency comes across a video that shows American doctors being killed by the Chinese Army. she discovers that it is a fake and sends it further up the chain of command only to find out that her boss has been killed and that the U.S.A. and China are getting ready to start a war. The man behind all of this needs her to be gone as well but, her friends have sent word and former Navy Seal Pierce Jordan is on his way with the help of the security firm he works for. After the exciting rescue from her office, it does not let up and this turns out to be a good fast-paced story full of action. A good book.
I received an ARC copy from Netgalley for an honest review. This book is the 3rd of the Women of Midnight series. I discovered the characters of the series with Midnight caress. The story, plot and pace are very much like all Lisa Marie Rice’s romantic suspense so it will delight the fans. It’s about serious international politics and warfare matters well documented, with passion and action.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to review Midnight Caress by Lisa Marie Rice.
I'm giving Midnight Caress a 3.5 stars. I thought the storyline was good and it moved at a good pace. I wasn't too keen on the male lead. There was something about him that I couldn't connect with. Overall I found the book to be a quick read.
Lisa Marie Rice never fails to deliver a hot, exciting story. This one is paced with excitement, lots of suspense and of course romance. Riley gets help from Pierce and love.
I'm bad. I let myself fall behind in the Men of Midnight Series which morphed into the Women of Midnight Series. Anyway, I ended up reading five of these books in the last two months. You would think I would be sick of Lisa Marie Rice. No. Not even close. The books, including this one, are all fantastic. Excellent plots, hot, hot romance and suspense to keep you reading long into the night and then keep you awake. I guess it is possible to not read them in order, but please don't. They do follow each other very closely and the characters from the past books pop up often.
In the past I have complained that the books were a lot of sex with a sprinkle of plot. That is not the case with the latest books. The plot is supreme and the sex, while hot, is not controlling the book. This book has a plot that is chilling in how easily is could really happen. Suspense, hot romance and just a wonderful entertaining read, just totally addictive!
Pierce Jordan is a former SEAL working for ASI. The women who work tech support are treated like Queens at this company. They are genius with computers and drop dead beautiful, but without the ego. Three of the four friends work at ASI and Pierce has his eye on the last remaining one, Riley.
When Riley Robinson, who works at the NSO in Washington, D.C. finds herself in deep doo-doo she sends a signal to her friends, and they send her Pierce. Riley has discovered a deepfake video that could lead to war with China if someone doesn't challenge it. With mercenaries having already killed her boss, Riley is running for her life and Pierce is her wheelman. Together they challenge a real nasty and prevent WWIII, after they fall in love, of course.
My thanks to the Publisher and Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Women of Midnight series. I have not read the other books in this series, but I feel that you can read this book as a standalone without any problems. I will go back and read the other books in this series because I have fallen in love with these characters. This book's characters and storyline pulled me into it, and I did not want to stop reading it. I really enjoyed this book because it was fast paced with lots of suspense and action. There was a great mixed of romance and suspense/action in this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Oliver Heber Books) or author (Lisa Marie Rice) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Lisa Marie Rice has been writing an original voice in romantic suspense for a long time, both as Rice and as her other pen name. Midnight Caress is another timely and imaginative entry in her “Midnight” series, and if it doesn’t make you question anything you see on the internet, I don’t know what will.
The plot- Riley is an operative who realizes that the film leading straight to war with China is actually a DeepFake. The problem? No one wants this exposed. In typical Rice fashion, a fast action love story and plot soon emerge.
midnight caress
Riley saves the day.
Midnight Caress, an exciting and dynamic story where Riley discovers that the Chinese did not kill innocents a cause for the US to consider war, but the Sommers agency. With war on the horizon , the Sommers group out to kill her, Pierce becomes her protector and more as they try to expose the truth. Romantic, sexy with a strong and very smart heroine. I loved the fast pace, the strong and sexy scenes that made me melt. Definitely a need to read more by this dynamic author.
I received this book as an arc from Net Gallery and am voluntarily submitting my review.
4.5 stars
This is the story of Riley, a nerdy young woman who uncovers a deep fake video that could start a war. And her journey of keeping herself safe and stopping the escalation of this world conflict while being protected by the strong and handsome Pierce, and with the help of some special friends.
The story flows nice and effortlessly, all characters except the bad guy and his team are wonderful in their own way. While I couldn't connect much to Riley, she is such a likeable character, so strong and smart and feminine. Pierce plays perfectly his part as an ex Navy Seal, a very protective man in love and keeps her safe and well loved. Than there's Black, whose story I hope we will find out soon.
I am a fan of LMR's work and I know how much she loves this techno thriller theme, and truly, in these pages it gives such a modern and well researched flavor to the whole story. All the details and technical stuff keep you on your toes, there is always something new, a new device, a new program that gives a new spin to the whole action.
So my 5 stars go to these theme, but my 4 stars go to the romance, to the sensual, the built up part that she is the queen of. Here the techno thriller takes the first place and it feels like the romance is not 100% to her style. I'm comparing this to the perfection she writes in some of her book, so even if it's not all here, it is still a great romantic suspense book worth reading. I'll probably re-read it as I want to keep up with the whole series.
I received a copy of this in order to offer my personal view on it.
Right from the first page it was go…go…go…with Riley needing to escape her work without being seen as some dangerous mercenaries are looking for her. She calls her friends who have connections in high places and are whizzes at IT. Pierce, who works for ASI a security firm, is in town and when the call comes in that Riley needs help, he doesn’t hesitate and with the help of another security firm in town, he has the resources he needs to come to her rescue. But the ride isn’t over just yet, Riley has information that can thwart a war with China and needs the help of everyone involved to reach the higher ups in the US govt. Many people don’t want what she knows to go public and will do whatever it takes to take her down….but not if Pierce has any say in it.
A great read with suspense, twists and turns, steam and great characters. I loved the no drama between them, the sparks and easy attraction with no hesitations on either side. There were sentences and paragraphs repeated throughout the story, changed a bit but meanings the same that had me pausing thinking I went back word when turning the page. Otherwise a great read with the thrills starting from page one.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Riley's job is usually not overly exciting...until it is. Pierce's honor cost him his career and he has accepted the new direction. And then he meets Riley. Can he keep her safe and prevent a war?
Midnight Caress is the latest installment in Lisa Marie Rice's Women of Midnight series. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Riley. She is super smart and an unexpected warrior. She has found a wrong and puts her life on the line to correct it. She never expected to find a love as well. I love seeing her with Pierce. I love seeing Pierce accept that the woman he is beginning to care for has a brain and skills outside his wheelhouse. That doesn't stop him from supporting her even as he fights to keep her safe.
I thoroughly enjoyed returning to this work Ms. Rice has created and look forward to where she will take us next.
A good thriller with somewhat believable characters. Imagining what Riley was going through, knowing someone wanted to kill her for what she found, knowing if she didn't stop it it could be the end of the world as we know it. With the help from the best security team, there is a chance. The instant attraction to Riley and Pierce is off the charts. Having not read the others in the Women of Midnight first, I was still able to follow along fine but will be going back to the beginning to catch up with this series.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Pierce is called in to help Riley when she finds herself in a dangerous situation. Once he has Riley their lives spiral into them running for their lives. As they try to share the information they have, which can save the US from nuclear war, they continue to be hunted.
As Pierce and Riley get to know each other there is more on the line for their future than saving the United States. They have a growing relationship that could be strained when Riley has to take steps to get the leader of the group to confess.
Fast paced and a book I would definitely recommend.
Midnight Caress is the third book in Lisa Marie Rice’s Women of Midnight series. This is a military romance that is suspenseful, action packed, and filled with intense passion and fantastic characters. It is written in third person from the point of views of the hero, the heroine and the antagonist.
When Former SEAL and current member of the ASI, Pierce Jordan is sent to rescue a friend of a friend he never expected to meet his “one”, Riley Robinson, literary running for her life from a group of armed assassins sent to kill her. Now its his job to keep her alive long enough the verify a deepfake video and stop a full scale world war. But can he fight the distracting chemistry between them and his ever growing feelings, in order to keep her alive and get their happily ever after? Read it and find out.
I have read several of Lisa Maries Rice’s books. She does a fantastic job creating amazing characters and intense, action packed love stories. The scenes between Pierce and Riley were very steamy and graphic. Loved them!
I love the premise for the Women of Midnight and Men of Midnight series and what they stands for. Both the heroes and heroines in Rice’s books are good, strong characters with strong morals, values and personalities. They are very goal oriented and career focused until they meet their “one” and then their focus changes for the better. The story develops as they fight the dangers that surround them, while trying to develop a strong and everlasting connection.
This book is part of series with overlapping characters and story lines, but can be read as a standalone. I can’t wait for the next book in this intense and fascinating series.
I really enjoyed this book.
I thought that it had a well developed and good storyline and some excellent characters.
There were a few parts where the author has repeated some of the details so parts were referred too twice, but it didn't spoil the flow of the story.
The book had action, romance and was a sexy read overall.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
What if the world was heading for war and you were the only one who could prevent it? You have the proof but no way of getting it to the right people? What if seconds matter, and who you trust could save your life? This is the situation Riley Robinson has found herself in. When only a chance of Fate brings her Pierce Jordan, former Navy Seal, now security operative who was in the right place when Rileys world implodes. Together, they have to stay alive and change the narrative.
This is very fast-paced, with breaks for stress relief, yes sexy times, because continually running for your life makes for a boring book.
You always know what you’re getting with a Lisa Marie Rice RS. The heroine is smart and beautiful, the hero a strong man who takes care of his woman no matter what. Riley and Pierce (an ex SEAL, don’t ya know) embody this trope in typical but exciting fashion. Fast paced. Sex. Action. Fall in love almost at first sight. Riley has seen a video she realizes has been faked. This leads to trouble and death, including that of her boss. She calls the Midnight crew for help, and Pierce is sent to her. Doesn’t get any better if you are a fan of LMR. Third book in the series, but can easily be read standalone.
Riley finds herself on the run from enemy that won't stop until she is dead. When Pierce receives the call that Riley is in trouble he immediately drops everything to help her. Very exciting story, I truly love this series! It's quick moving but the females are all strong characters that are easy to love and can pretty much handle anything that comes their way with the help of their crew. Hope their are more stories to read soon.
