Such a fun book to help kids play and use their imaginations. My kids loved it and have enjoyed using the things they learned from it again and again.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This was such a cool book! Would definitely buy this for my mom friends or even myself for when i babysit! tons of fun ideas!
Here we have a perfect book for every parent, teachers or people in general that comes across children in their life.
It gives you really great ideas on how to pretend play if you need any ideas on where to start.
The pictures was really good too and I can:t wait to do some more pretend play with my kids.
Thanks Netgalley :)
A fun manual that offers an extra spark to anyone who, like me, spends a lot of time with children and sometimes struggles with creativity.
The different ‘pretend play’ stations were all accompanied by pictures and suggested lists of items, as well as benefits of the activity - things like, this aspect encourages fine motor skills, or this is a fun idea for kids who like xyz. I don’t think one should look at this if they’re really creative at most times, but I am definitely not that, and I think many others are - in which case, I would recommend this book. The suggestions in this book are honestly really, really good - they’re broad enough that anyone can implement them but detailed enough that you have concrete ideas for the next time your kids want to play pretend. A really unique idea that I think was executed wonderfully!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Pretend Play Workshop for Kids is a beautifully presented book with some fantastic pretend Play settings and ideas for kids. I loved how this includes children being able to help the grown-up to create a themed pretend Play are and the easy to follow indtuctions for each setting, too. As someone who works within education, this is a great book for educational settings, too, for ideas for the home corner in KS1. This book combines therapeutic Play ideas with imagination and fun and is just wonderful. I wanted to jump within the pages of these settings they were so aesthetically pleasing and fun.
As a mom of two toddlers, I'm constantly running out of things to do! Pretend Play is a great way to look at everyday items in your home and give them new life!
Want to run a Post Office? You can do it!
Itching to run a restaurant? No problem!
After flipping through this book, I went and checked out the author's instagram and realized that they offer a monthly subscription service to send you printouts for pretend play! Which I am all about! I can't wait to get my first month.
If you're a SAHM looking for a break, a homeschooling parent needing variety, or any other parent who needs ideas to help their kids with independent play - this is the book for you!
As a parent, I'm always looking for easy creative play ideas for my toddler. Pretend Play Workshop for Kids does just that. There are so many great ideas for play that are easy and inexpensive to set up. I can't wait to try more of these ideas in our home.
I really wanted to love this one because I follow the creators on social media and love them and their content. However, this felt super niche to me and I'm not that niche. The book is entirely pretend play setups. However, these felt time intensive to me. I can imagine my four year old playing doctor for a third of the time it would take me to make all of the props. Perhaps if you're a grandparent or someone who is crafty and this kind of set up brings joy you might love this book. However, I don't see it working for most parents, particularly those who work outside the home or have limited time to invest in kids' play activities.
Lots of really good ideas here for creative play with little ones. It includes great colourful pictures and lists of what you will need, all very achievable.
I look forward to trying some of these ideas for my son.
As a Pre-K teacher I was immediately captivated by what this book can offer. It surely does not disappoint. Vivid pictures, creative crafts, and the research behind the importance of imaginative play is described beautifully in the book.
With the upcoming Creative Curriculum for our 2023-2024 school year, I am looking forward to incorporating the ideas from the doctors office, toy store, and the ice-cream shop.
Thank you to Caitlin Kruse, Mandy Roberson, the publishers, and NetGalley for this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
I am so excited to use this book with my 4 year old as well as recommending it to all my parent friends. This book gives 12 different pretend play ideas and provides how to set each up listing supplies needed and also provides activities to do for each area.
This book also explains what pretend play is and why it’s important along with information on the time spans of children per age from 2-6.
So many great ideas from this book! Not only does it explain why imaginative play is important for kids, but it gives you so many ideas and visuals as to how you can incorporate it more
As a parent to two young children, I'm always helping them set up new play areas and are amazed at how rich their imaginations are. This book describes the benefits of pretend play and lays out helpful information on different imaginative play set ups. I loved the photographs and the step-by-step instructions - so easy to do!
I think any day care or kindergarten teacher will love this book and any parent of a kid with a vivid imagination!
I was gifted a digital copy of Pretend Play Workshop for Kids for a fair and honest review. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity.

Pretend Play Workshop for Kids is a gorgeous book, full of easy to follow instructions to create a number of pretend play stations and suggested tasks to go with them.
A great book about why play is important and ways to incorporate into children's lives with easy to find materials as well as tasks to improve their fine motor skills in fun ways, I love the letter stamping for the post office, and clipping up laundry for the laundrette
This was officially the cutest book ever. And all the projects were super easy to do. (Not like some of those Pinterest projects you know what I mean)
I’m totally buying copies for gifts. Especially for the kindergarten teachers in my life.
Pretend Play Workshop for Kids is a joyful and creative book full of wonderful projects and activities for little ones. Featuring a detective office, toy store, art museum and more, there's something for everyone! I love that it goes beyond just creating a prop for the kids, but also features multiple activities to tie in with each pretend theme, extending the kids entertainment further. The typesetting and layout is fun and engaging, making it super easy to follow along with each project. I would highly recommend this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of "Pretend Play Workshop for Kids". All thoughts and opinions are my own.
As a kindergarten teacher who believes that play is one of the most powerful learning tools available, I believe that this book should be in the hands of all Early Childhood teachers. All the ideas that were given were well thought out, simple, inexpensive, and above all wonderful. The authors explained how to create the themes beautifully and did an excellent job of also considering older children by offering ideas for them as well.
This book has some really great ideas for at-home pretend play. Some of the ideas do seem a bit difficult to make and/or won't hold up to heavy wear, but overall a good book.
As a home educator to a neurodivergent 5 year old, pretend play is a daily occurrence in our home. This book not only offers a great overview of the benefits of pretend play but also provides guidance on several structured scenarios such as coffee shop and art gallery. For each role play scenario, the author provides hands on activities that allow children to explore the theme with their senses, through creative projects or to practise life skills related to that scenario.
I liked how each scenario was broken down into what kind of materials you might need, instructions on building components of the role play as well as the selection of related activities. The book is really well thought out with high quality photographs and an accessible writing style. This would make a great addition to any parent or educator's collection.
This book is every parent and grandparents dream!
Instantly, this book transports you to a time when children made their fun using inexpensive materials and a lot of imagination. Fortunately, Caitlin Kruse, Mandy Roberson, and Emma Johnson have provided those who don’t know where to get started with a book containing all the ins and outs of creating imaginative and thematic play-scapes for your child to enjoy. There is a detective office with a rotary dial phone—yep, you make the phone—and it looks awesome! Kruse and Roberson even show you and your little ones how to make a briefcase and include directions for a fingerprinting activity. There’s a post office with a mail bag and a mail sorting center. What a fun way to teach your child how to organize and sort. There are so many more fun and innovative play-stations that I am in awe! Each theme has every accessory you could imagine and so much more! The supplies to create them are all listed and commonly obtainable items. The directions are easy to follow regardless of skill level and there are loads of color photos to help too. The book contains endless hours of constructing and crafting fun with old-fashioned know-how and contemporary themes. My thanks to #CaitlinKruse, #MandyRoberson, #EmmaJohnson, #QuatroPublishingGroup, and #NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
