A most enjoyable book to read interesting throughout but rather annoying when Sarah doesn’t realise she is been used by Tom for him to take over from her but of course all comes together with a happy ending

Different to my usual type of genre and the first book I've read by Kathleen.

Was interesting to read about the change in family circumstances when the man of the house is no longer the bread winner and that becomes the woman.

Whilst she is also balancing that and still trying to cook and look after her husband and family.

I think it was really well written with some great characters

"Would You Ask My Husband That?" is a compelling read that delves into the nuances of gender dynamics with both clarity and depth. The author's candid anecdotes and astute observations make for an engaging exploration of societal biases. This book is a valuable contribution to the ongoing conversation about gender equality. I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Would You Ask My Husband That? by Kathleen Whyman

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Embla Books and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

She's wearing the pants in this family. And washing everyone else's too...

When Sarah's husband, Will , is unexpectedly fired, her first reaction is shock. Then she gets a call offering her his old job.

On principal, she should turn it down. But their young family needs the money and Sarah can't help feeling like her career has taken a backseat all these years. Now it is her turn to shine.

Overnight, Sarah and Will trade places.

She's now the departmental director commuting into the city five days a week and answering client calls on the weekend. He's doing the school run and the laundry. Or at least trying to.

They've always said they are equal partners, so this should be simple right?

Wrong.

This change was supposed to be the making of them as a family, but as Sarah fights for her chance to have it all, she might end up losing everything...

My Opinion

This was an entertaining read. Sarah and Will effectively swap roles and whilst Will is written in such a way that it is impossible to like him, it was nice to see as he tries to figure out his new role. Whilst the plot is quite predictable, this is quite a refreshing read. Kathleen Whyman uses dual perspectives to help the reader see both sides of the story. Grab a copy and settle in for a good laugh.

Rating 4/5

I enjoyed this book very much even though I spent most of it silently screaming at all the men in it. Needless to say it involved quite a bit of chauvinism. At the same time it was funny and ironic and had me laughing aloud in several places. Not a deep meaningful story but one perfect for a snowy winter's day as well as a sunny beach.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

The idea behind the story is good with Sarah moving into primary bread winner role and Will staying home with the children. I like how you get the story from both points of view. However it becomes a bit frustrating with the continual bickering over the home duties, Sarah is a bit too perfect, whilst being totally clueless about the snake in the grass at work. No real plot twists here, as you can see them coming and you just want the characters to hurry up and realise what is going on.

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Will is fired after leaving his work laptop on a train on night when he was drunk. His wife Sarah is called and offered Wills old job. She feels that she must turn it down but can’t help to think that this will help her family financially and give her career a boost after putting it on the back burner whilst bringing up her family.
She takes the job but finds herself still juggling home errands, kids and her job whilst Will tries and struggles to do the school run and the laundry.

Can they work through the change in roles or will it end up destroying their family.

Witty. Funny. Relatable. On point!

This hilarious and honest story about juggling family, marriage and careers is an easy-to-read page-turner that made me laugh and quickly read to the end.

A good summer read and would recommend to anyone who just wants to be taken away from their own life with an easy read.

Overall I enjoyed this story. It was interesting and often funny as the expectations of men and women in our society are explored through role reversal.

From the title I really thought this book was going to be something else. I really thought Sarah would be standing up for herself at work, facing down sexism with the line, "Would you ask my husband that?" but instead I got constant bickering, a man-baby masquerading as a husband, and a predictable plot complete with workplace misogyny and female pettiness.

Unfortunately the whole plot was wildly predictable with no one character actually being likeable. Even Sarah, for all her relatability as a working mother didn't come off particularly well. While the ending tried to redeem Sarah and Will for all of their miscommunication and jealousy, it came about way too easily.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a new author for me and I really enjoyed this book. It was well written, flowed, and had me laughing out loud at times. It involved a role reversal between Sarah and Will, not always successfully I might add!
A light easy read with very relatable characters which I can highly recommend

I'm going to preface this by saying this book was not for me. Others might enjoy it. Listed below are some things I liked, and many things I didn't.

Pro
- The kids were not neglected
- The writing was okay - easy to read
- Love the dual point of view

Con
- Sarah and Will are insufferable - he is driven by sex and she seems to only like him for his eyes
- Sarah is written so she doesn't do anything well - so cringe (from Will's POV she is a nagging harpy)
- It was obvious that one character was shady as hell from the beginning
- The epilogue shows everything worked out after 6 months which is so ridiculous (therapy? starting a business ? these are all long term projects that don't work out after half a year).

A new author for me and I absolutely loved it, found some parts hilarious, how Sarah didn’t give her hubby Will a slap I don’t know. His attitude to him losing his job and being home all day but still expecting Sarah to do everything even though she basically got promoted into his job was disgusting, but I guess that could actually happen.
A definite must read, looking forward to reading more from Kathleen

I really enjoyed this very funny and relatable story! Will has a good job that pays well, enabling him, Sarah and their young children to live a great lifestyle. Sarah is an intelligent, capable woman, who keeps the wheels turning in the family home, looking after everyone, and consigning her career dreams to the bin. She’s got her family, and her home and great lifestyle. So that should be enough, right? Then, in the blink of an eye, everything changes. Will loses his job after a drunken night out, and, in a complete role reversal, Sarah is offered his old job. Suddenly, their lives are turned upside down as they each grapple with their new responsibilities, not always successfully. I think we can all relate to their story, I know I certainly can! The grass is not always greener, as they both find out, and there are many challenges to be faced that will affect their relationship, and their self esteem. There’s a lot of laughter in this very well-written story, and some food for thought too., I thoroughly enjoyed it, and happily recommend.

This is a brilliant book. A husband and wife end up swapping roles in a family. I just loved how the woman was still supposed to keep the house running and work as the husband could not multi task. There were some really funny moments as well as times when it really was about the workload that women carry, not just in the workplace. It was interesting how it was written in two points of view. I found that I really felt for Sarah through her viewpoint but found it hard to read Will’s as it took a really long time for him to redeem himself to me. This was a really good book and I enjoyed it
