My second outing with an impressive new author. The title and burb got me thinking the story was going to go one way but instead went through so many twists and turns.
The story is told mainly from the pov of sarah who daighter was abducted 14 years ago and abi who turns up claiming to be her.
Once again i loved the way Lauren gave real emotion and depth to the characters. The gradual telling and development of the chatscgers via different timelines hooked me in. Although i guessed part of the truth about abi early on the red herrings and twists after twist kept me hooked. I really felt for both sarah and abi. I liked tge way the male characters were given just enough page time to generate the story. I loved the way my opinion of michael was developed by his interactions with others and his characyer was told mainly by sarah i really drew to hate him. However I did have an opinion about him that the ginal ted herring changed.
Thank you net gallery and publisher for my arc. This is a solid 5 🌟 highly recommended look firward to our next puting together Lauren North
Lauren North has once again written a gripping story about family and the multiple layers that divide them whilst also cementing their relationships. This is a missing child mystery, one that could have come directly from the pages of any missing person website, full of anguish and anger. But when Sarah and Michaels prayers have been answered and their daughter returns home, it appears that the mystery deepens. Heartbreaking at times but always full of tension, this is an incredible book that completely captures the horror of losing a child and the devastation it heaps upon the family left behind. I loved the characters especially Sarah and Ryan but Abi totally stole my heart. A brilliantly twisty book that kept me on my toes, shocking me with some unexpected moments along the way! Loved it!
Full of suspense, with twists that kept me guessing until the end. Ultimately, I guessed (most of) the major twist, but I had plenty of doubts along the way. So many red herrings.
The characters were simple and the relationships didn't have a lot of depth, but maybe that was on purpose, since the entire family is meant to be disconnected due to their past.
Thanks to Net Galley, Bookoutre, and the author for an ARC of this novel.
Four-year-old Abigail Wick disappeared while on a family vacation. Fourteen years later, a 17-year-old shows up, claiming to be Sarah and Michael Wick’s missing daughter. While the rest of the family is quick to accept her back in their lives, Sarah has her doubts.
Told from the POV of Sarah, Abi, and a mystery person, with timelines from ‘then’ and ‘now,’ I flew through this book. I had my suspicions about what happened but was surprised by the twist.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
OMG this book !!!
It was my first book, from this author and I absolutely Loved it!! I really don't have words to describe how good was this book. It had me hooked from the very beginning, and I couldn't put it down because I had to know what would happen next !
Sometimes I was so confused I didn't know what to believe anymore, but one of my guesses was right. Michael was a shady and shitty person, omg he should've died.
This story was really really good, everything made sense in the end.
I wish this book had a continuation, because I need a pov just for Daniel, omg he was really fucked up, but his character omg!!
Thank you so much bookouture and netgalley for the opportunity to read this awesome book, I really loved it.
Review on Goodreads and on my IG (@ellie.readings) in the upcoming weeks.
What could be more interesting to pull you in…..a child turns up years after going missing and whilst most of the family rejoices the Mother is unsure….and why is she so unsure?
Well written with present and past chapters and of course twists to keep you intrigued this book was for me a quick exciting read that delivered exactly as it said it would, you will need to keep reading once started
Thank you to #Bookouture #NetGalley and #LaurenNorth for the ARC of #SheSaysShesMyDaugher. “You’re not my daughter.” Four year old Abigail goes missing, and nearly 14 years to the day, a young woman shows up at a local police station claiming to be the missing girl. Is she? Isn’t she? A mother should know her own daughter, shouldn’t she? – but nobody believes Sarah when she says this girl is not, cannot be, her daughter. She Says She’s My Daughter is a taut psychological thriller that kept the tension going right up to the very end. Proving that love will always prevail, Lauren North has given us a fantastic psychological thriller that was hard to put down.
Brilliant. I was hooked from page one and I was speculating all the way through. I enjoyed the different points of view and the chapters were short enough to think 'just one more'.
This novel is a fantastic psychological thriller that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. It follows the story of a family whose four year old daughter is abducted while the family is on a beach vacation. Fourteen years later the the daughter, Abigail, is still missing and there are few, if any, clues as to who might have done this. The entire family, Michael, Sarah, Daniel, and Rebecca are still affected by this unimaginable tragedy. There has been no closure for them because they do not know if she is dead or alive. There are many shocking twists in this novel and it is a fascinating look at what happens to a family when tragedy strikes. It was a book that was difficult to put down! Thank you to Lauren North, Bookouture, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review She Says She’s My Daughter.
Thirteen years, 10 months and 9 days ago 4 year old Abigail Wick goes missing while on holiday in Suffolk with her family.
When Abi walks into a London police station claiming to be Abigail her dad Michael, brother Daniel and sister Rebecca welcome her with open arms but her mum Sarah isn’t convinced. Why is she so sure Abi can’t be her daughter? The story of how Abigail went missing and how Abi finds her way back into the Wicks’ lives is revealed through the POV of Sarah and Abi.
A well plotted novel, I enjoyed both the use of present events and flashbacks to tell the story.
I was all set to give this book 5 stars. It is an interesting plot and a gripping read. I was quickly anxious to find out the mystery behind this girl claiming to be a family’s missing daughter/sister. And the reveal, while a tiny bit over the top, made it even more interesting. It was a surprise to me. The reason I gave it 3 stars is due to the ending. It almost ruined the whole book, and it irritates me to no end. So many authors feel the need to add that one last paragraph thinking it adds suspense. It doesn’t! Too many authors do it and just ruins the story. Thanks to Net Galley for this ARC.
Love, love, love. A big 4.5 stars!!!!! I love a kidnapping/ child returning trope. The pacing is perfect. Don't read this on a work night because you will lose sleep. But it's totally worth it, I promise. The twists are done to perfection. I held my breath the last 30 percent of the book. Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and just dive into this book blind. I can't wait till I can get physical copies. Dying to discuss this one with... Well. Everyone!!!! Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my chance to read and review this little gem. This is the book office workers will be discussing at the water cooler
One of a parent’s worst nightmares, the disappearance of your child. This is exactly what the main character in this story, Sarah has faced for the past 14 years. She has persevered through the disappearance and tried to get her life and that of her family’s back on track, she has 2 other children to live for. However, her marriage and family life has certainly crumbled under the weight of this tragedy. Sarah’s husband, Michael has not weathered the storm as well as Sarah has, and this too puts additional tension on Sarah to hold everything together. Imagine Sarah’s surprise, when a young woman shows up to a police station claiming that she is their long-lost daughter, Abigail. While the family eagerly begins to accept Abigail with open arms, Sarah wants to wait until the DNA test is obtained before welcoming her with open arms. Something just doesn’t feel right to Sarah, but how can she get in the way of the joy of the rest of the family as they celebrate their reunion. What is really going on? Who is this young girl? Can she possibly be their daughter? If Sarah is right, and she is not their daughter, why is she pretending to be? If Sarah is wrong, can she embrace Abigail and forge a relationship and heal their last 14 years apart? This thriller left me guessing and it was impossible to put it down. While I don’t want to reveal any further details so that I don’t spoil the plot for anyone, you will never guess what truly happens. That for me, is the tell of a really good psychological thriller, when you expect something or someone to happen, and something totally different occurs. You will not regret reading this book, and be prepared to read it all in one sitting as it was impossible to put down. I really loved the different points of view and getting to know the characters. I highly recommend this book and author. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I certainly would. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
An excellent psychological thriller from Lauren North. The middle child from family goes missing and 15 years later, a girl appears at a police station, claiming to be the lost girl.
However, once she's reunited with her family, the mother knows this isn't her daughter.
There's a Law and Order SVU episode that has a similar plot. A missing child, who returns years later, and something is off with the child who has returned.
This is.....JUST AS exciting and twisty as that episode. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced story that has twists on every page.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.

Thirteen years, ten months and nine days ago Abigail Wick went missing while on a family vacation with mom and dad and baby sister Rebecca and six years old brother Daniel.
Now a girl walks into a police station claiming to be Abigail.
Parents Sarah and Michael are in shock yet want to believe she is really Abigail.
If so, where has she been for nearly fourteen years? If she is Abigail, her parents know she has a scar that nobody else would know ~ it appears she has the scar.
Story kept me guessing ~ is she or isn’t she Abigail. I kept looks for clues.
I kept guessing until it was revealed.
This was a WOW read for me!
I certainly am looking forward to Ms. North’s next psychological thriller!
About the Author Lauren North: Lauren writes psychological suspense novels that delve into the darker side of relationships and families. She has a lifelong passion for writing, reading, and all things books. Lauren’s love of psychological suspense has grown since childhood and her dark imagination of always wondering ‘what’s the worst thing that could happen in every situation’.
She tells us in her ~”A Letter from Lauren’ that book ideas come into her head like a whisper then built into a story. It is as like a knock at the door and standing her doorstep were the Wick family.
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Day scheduled for: July 24, 2023.
Wow this was an absolutely wild ride and I loved it!
I was quite sure I had it figured out early on but I was very wrong.
When it got to the last 20% I was cooking dinner, ignoring my kids trashing the place and reading at the same time because I simply couldn't put it down.
Definitely add this one to your TBR pile!
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy.
This was a fast paced page turning book with lots of twists and turns you wouldn’t expect and quiet a page turner too.
Years ago, Sarah’s daughter Abigail mysteriously disappeared. Present day, a girl named Abi comes to the police station claiming that she was the missing girl Abigail Wicks. But when Sarah meets her, she believes that Abi is not her daughter. Is someone impersonating her daughter?
This was actually really good, the story is told in Sarah’s and Abis point of view. As a reader you know that one of them is hiding something . There were twists and turns, the ending was completely unexpected. I also like the authors style of writing - it was compelling and did a good job of drawing the reader to the story. Overall This thriller worth a whopping five stars!!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Loved this a lot! After only a couple chapters, I was hooked! I was in Team Sarah, the whole time. Everyone blamed her for being pessimistic, but she was just being practical. She was thinking about her family before making any rash decision. I could relate with her character a lot. Great suspense, great story building and ended with a bang! Didn't see the twist coming. Perfect for all Thriller lovers.
I also liked that the author didn't reignite the Romance between Sarah and Ryan as that would have distracted the readers from more pressing issues. Even though Ryan's character was such a gentleman and a great friend.
If I could change anything, Janie's character was a little absurd. She comes to Sarah to say "Leave me alone", and then goes to coffee with her within 5 seconds?
We follow alternating POVs between Sarah, Abi, and a mystery person. Sarah is a mother of 3. She had the unthinkable happen to her 14 years ago when her daughter vanished while her family was on vacation. Present day (14 years later), there is a teenager that shows up at the police station claiming to be Abigail Wick, which is Sarah’s missing daughter. Sarah’s husband (Michael) and her other 2 children (Rebecca/Daniel) are elated with this news, but Sarah is convinced this teenager is not her daughter. She just can’t figure out her motive for wanting into her family.
I would really like to summarize more than that because I feel like it’s essentially the synopsis, but I don’t want to ruin any bit of the story. This one would be best to go into as blindly as possible to enjoy it fully.
The first half of the book was slow paced, but it picked up a lot in the second half. If you wanted to be nitpicky you could definitely find small holes and things that just don’t add up with the story but that did not take away from the enjoyment I had reading this.
This was a super quick read for me, and I did feel super satisfied when I was done with it! I did not expect the ending which is always a HUGE plus for me. I would recommend picking this one up!
Thank you Lauren North, Bookouture. and NetGalley for the ARC of this book! :)
My thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for allowing me to review this book.
Wow!!! I loved this!!! Poor Sara and Michael have been grieving the loss of their daughter Abigail who was abducted 14 years ago. But one day a girl claiming to be Abby walks into the police station claiming to be her. Sara does not believe her, but Michael does. Why would anyone do that?
You will not see the end twist coming at all. This was a quick, easy, page turner of a read. Highly recommend!
