I am a big Ashley Poston fan, so I was keen to read this one. It's a little more young adult than my personal taste, but I can imagine teenaged Marvel fans loving it.
Ashley Poston is definitely the perfect writer for Kate Bishop's Hawkeye, as she already has the funny banter nailed. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development, inner monologues, and her comic dialogue.
The story was fun and interesting enough, although possibly a little too fast-paced (events occurred so quickly at times, it was hard to keep up). I found the superhero cameos a little much if I'm totally honest; there were so many unnecessary scenes just to satisfy fans that I couldn't help but roll my eyes each time.
All in all, it's a fun read. Definitely towards the younger side of young adult, but it will likely be a hit with many fans when the book is published.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'Hawkeye: Bishop Takes King' by Ashley Poston.
'Hawkeye: Bishop Takes King' is a new Marvel novel following one of the best characters in the Marvel Universe at the moment: Kate Bishop. With cameos from your favourite characters such as Lucky the Pizza Dog, America Chavez and Clint himself, this book is such fun and very well researched by Poston.
I would love for Poston to write more Kate Bishop stories.
This is a really fun book for fans of Marvel, especially those who liked the Hawkeye show. I think it captures Kate's character very well!
As a huge fan of the Young Avengers and Kate Bishop, I couldn't wait to dive into Bishop Takes King--and I wasn't disappointed. The adventure had me on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait to share it with my fellow comic book fans. This one really hit the bullseye (...I'm sorry, I HAD to do it.)
After loving the Hawkeye series I was really excited to read this and was not disappointed! An excellent read for any Marvel fan.
Kate bishop!! Kickass archer, sassy superhero, young avenger and owner of the best dog in the world (lucky the pizza dog. Amiright?). She is by far one of my fav of the marvel characters and she’s really one you root for and get behind. This book was a fab adventure with Kate and I loved it!
I’ve never read the comics (I know) and am limited to the knowledge of the MCU on TV & screen, from movies and tv shows, but I love reading the books as a different format for more marvel content and all that it provides. They are entertaining, easy, generally badass and exciting with harks to familiar faces and plots from the tales we all know and love.
The banter between Clint and Kate never get old and I loved reading their exchanges in this. And with America as sidekick best friend and awesome marvel name drops throughout, I couldn’t get enough of it. Once I started reading I struggled to draw myself away and may have accidentally read most of it in a day. Whoops. Super enjoyed and the ending was SO satisfying and spot on.
I was highly anticipating this read and it delivered on all fronts. Loved it.
Hawkeye: Bishop Takes King follows Kate Bishop, the self-described ‘Better Hawkeye’ as a calm day out turns into a wild, action-packed chase to find all the copies of a children’s book series which have a secret and dangerous project hidden in their pages before Kingpin and his friends do. We meet Milo, who turns out to be connected to the books in a close, personal way, and I liked that throughout the book, it was uncertain if he was a good or bad character, as it showed that even good characters have flaws. I loved the cameos from other well-loved Marvel characters such as Ms Marvel, Spider-Man, and America Chavez, who is Kate’s best friend and tries to keep her out of trouble. I also appreciated the occasional pop culture reference, especially the ones relating to the Percy Jackson series, which I am a very big fan of, as it was really nice to be able to relate to what characters in the book were interested in. I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this to anyone interested in Marvel or fun adventure/superhero stories, or any fans of the Hawkeye series on Disney+, as I felt like this was a nice progression where we see Kate fully established as the ‘Better Hawkeye’.
I would happily recommend this to any fans of the MCU. I enjoyed going on another adventure with Kate Bishop and the author captured the voice and youthful spirit.
I thought that this was a graphic novel, but pleasantly surprised when it is a short book. I love Marvel characters, so it was nice to see a couple in this book. You are rooting for Hawkeye and wanting things to go good for her.
This was a very fun Kate Bishop book. It had her snarkiness and fun banter. Loved how her friendships with Clint Barton and America Chavez were portrayed. This may not be for someone not familiar with Marvel characters, but for people who are already familiar with the characters, this was a fun story and Poston got the character voices just right.
Ashley Poston writes for teens -- but adults and fans of any age can enjoy this book. A wonderful exploration of a corner of the Marvel universe, and sure to engage readers who are familiar with this world of heroes, as well as acquaint those who are not as familiar.
