This enemies to lovers romance read is a decent book by Amy Lea. I have not read her other books, but this was okay. There were some fun details and funny moments, and you can't miss with the #onlyonebed moment with a fake dating couple. For people who loved "It Happened One Summer", they will like this one too!
Amy Lea’s final installment in the Influencer series is a joy to read! This enemies to lovers, grumpy vs sunshine, fake dating romance had me swooning, laughing, blushing and feeling all the feels. The chemistry between Melanie and Evan was off the charts! Lea's smart, heartfelt and genuine writing had me connecting quickly with the characters and becoming invested in their relationship. I also enjoyed that themes of mental health, grief, boundaries and found family were explored. I truly appreciated the author’s note at the beginning as well. Thanks so much to Berkley Pub and Netgalley for my copy.
I love AMY LEA BOOKS! The other 2 books in this series were just as wonderful as this one! Gosh I love the way Amy writes banter!! I get so pulled into the story and the characters are written so well! Loved this!
This third book in Lea's Influencer series features Melanie, a fashion influencer whose brand has gotten stale. When offered an all-expenses-paid vacation at a luxury resort in Nova Scotia, she jumps on it -- only to find the resort booked her for the wrong week. She ends up instead at what should be a lovely Victorian B&B in a seaside village, but turns out to be a wreck under renovation, with a big grumpy (but handsome) man telling her she can't stay. The conflict between Mel and Evan (grumpy guy) continues, despite the efforts of Evan's cousin Lucy to persuade Evan to show Mel a better side of their B&B and their village, and their back-and-forth bickering leads eventually to... a fake engagement.
While still a fun story, this book in the series didn't grab me as much as the other two. Mel has put up many walls to protect herself from revisiting her childhood traumas, and she comes across as unnecessarily confrontational at times. Evan's grumpiness of course hides his attraction to Mel, and his initial hostility towards her has a reason (divulged later in the book), but together they just seem so wrong for each other... until they don't. The fake engagement trope is a tricky one to pull off, and in this case I think they do manage it after the first few hurdles, but while the gradual buildup of their relationship becomes more enjoyable, it still takes a while to believe that they are going to work out.
The side characters really help the story sing, with some of their wacky personalities. And fans of the series willl appreciate cameos from Crystal and Tara, the two previous heroines. Not a bad finish to the series, but not entirely my cup of tea. 3 stars.
Thank you, Berkley Romance and NetGalley, for providing an eARC of this book. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.
I ATE this book up, I was so happily surprised by how much I enjoyed this! Truthfully, when I requested this on NetGalley I had no idea it's the third installment of the author's series, the book cover and description just intrigued me so much. I haven't read anything by Amy Lea prior to this, but I'm definitely going to look into her other works! This was a fast, palate cleanser kind of romance. Mel gets "trapped" in a small-town village Bed and Breakfast after her influencer vacation's itinerary gets mixed up, and she meets Evan, a grumpy fisherman who sounds like he wants Mel out ASAP. They get themselves into a fake dating situation for the good of Evan's family, and I thought all of it was just adorable!! I didn't want to put this down after getting into the meat of it all.
Although their love story escalates fast, I surprisingly didn't mind the fast pace. Mel is a headstrong woman who is constantly standing up for herself and fighting for her best interests - I loved that so much about her. Evan is also a stubborn character who knows what he wants and won't take any crap from anyone. The side characters were all very earnest and endearing, you fall in love with the small town just as much as our main characters do. They talk a lot about compromise, and I liked how Lea at least acknowledged the speedy nature of their relationship and addressed it. It was an easy read and I liked how the two constantly look out for one another! I'll definitely be looking into the other books of this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for this e-arc in exchange for my honest opinion!
Made me want to curl up at the ocean with a box of Timbits and a handsome fisherman. A page turning slow burn enemies to lovers romance that I read in one sitting because I couldn’t stop. Entertaining, funny with just the right amount of spice that I have come to expect from Amy Lea.
This series is so much fun! Truly a delight to read, and this one was no exception! It took me a little longer to buy into Mel and Evan as a couple but when that man bought her EVERY EYELASH IN THE STORE…. Goner.
I liked that Evan was very up front about his feelings once they started dating for real and though the third act breakup annoyed me (as they always do) and I thought Mel was just being stubborn, the ending was adorable! Amy Lea has become an author I will return to over and over again!
My favorite book in The Influencers series!
The Catch is the perfect grumpy x sunshine, fish out of water (haha), opposites attract romance for readers to binge. When an influencer's sponsored resort mixes up the dates of her trip, she's forced to reside in an Airbnb under construction with a grumpy fisherman and his eccentric cousin. From the zany plot to the incredibly relatable heroine this book was a hit from page 1. I loved getting to see a side of Melanie that we didn't get to explore in the first two books! Perfect for fans of It Happened One Summer.
Amy Lea's writing is extremely readable. I really enjoyed "Set On You." "Exes and Oh's" was a generally enjoyable romp with a cute if somewhat misguided premise. Unfortunately, at this point, I don't feel up to a woe-is-me influencer story. That's exactly how this started out. I would love to see something different from the author.
"'Your content is stale and a little too curated for our evolving brand.' That's what one collaboration partner said when they dumped me after five years. And they were among the many companies moving on to greener pastures, with fresh-faced teens in sweatpants and no make-up crying on live video sans filter. See, at the ripe old age of twenty-nine, I'm basically a crypt keeper in Internet years, teetering on the brink of irrelevance." (ch1)
Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.
This third and final book in Amy Lea's Influencer series has been one of my MOST anticipated reads and I sped through my eARC copy so fast when it landed on my kindle early!!
A perfect blend of the movies, While you were sleeping and The proposal (two of my FAV Sandra Bullock romcoms), sees Boston lifestyle influencer, Mel, traveling to Nova Scotia to help promote a boutique hotel.
Once there though she realizes the dates got mixed up and she has to find somewhere else to stay for a week. Cue Cora's Cove, a small town outside Halifax where she's able to find the only Airbnb with a room available AND where she meets Evan, her hot, grumpy fisherman host.
What follows is an enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, insta love story full of all sorts of Canadian East Coast summer goodness, including:
-a big meddling extended family
-only one bed
-a Settlers of Catan showdown
-a rundown family Inn that needs saving
-poutine, lobster festivals & steamy lighthouse make out sessions
-hiking, camping, fishing, whale watching and SO much more
Insta love can be really hard to pull off but Amy does it in a way that's believable and oh so heartwarming. Evan is grieving his cousin's death and Mel has always struggled opening up to others after being forced into an early caregiving role for her younger brother when her adopted mother ran off and later her father died unexpectedly.
While this book could be read as a standalone, I definitely recommend reading the first two influencer books first to better appreciate the wonderful friendship between Crystal, Tara and Mel.
The catch is Amy Lea at the top of her game and firmly cements her as an auto-buy, auto-read favorite author for me! Many thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for my early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Steam level: open door with LOTS of heat and emotional depth
In the third book of the loosely connected Influencer series, Melanie is heading to Nova Scotia to create new content. When she arrives, she realizes the company sponsoring her trip has made an error in dates and she has nowhere to stay for the next week. She manages to find an AirBnb inn and heads there. When she arrives, she encounters grumpy fisherman Evan. Mel and Evan couldn’t be more different but enjoy giving each other a hard time and arguing at every opportunity. Ultimately, a scary event unites them and results in a fake engagement to try to save the inn and reunite Evan’s estranged family.
I loved this book so much! I found myself reading with the biggest smile and actually laughing out loud throughout. The banter was top notch and I loved Evan’s character. The tropes in this book were perfect: enemies to lovers, fake engagement, opposites attract, forced proximity, and found family. I loved the ending and the compromise reached to address the conflict. There is also adoption and Asian representation with the FMC, along with more sensitive topics that are beautifully addressed. The author prepared a very thoughtful and helpful content warning to check out before reading. I didn’t want to put this book down and I wish I could have savored it longer because it was just that good. I definitely recommend you add this to your rom com TBR! You could read as a stand-alone but the other books are excellent too, so you really should just read the series.
Thank you to Amy Lea, Berkley Romance, and Netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
