I'm always a sucker for a fun romcom read, especially when theres witchiness involved, and Bad Luck Charm delivered! The banter, thr chemistry, all perfectly executed! I also really enjoyed the side characters, and all the witchy elements.

This would be the perfect fall read!

Thank you to NetGalley for the arc copy!

I never in a million years thought murder could actually be funny. This book was hysterical!

Gwen and Grahame were so great! He is a protective brute and it was hilarious whenever she pushed his buttons, which was all the time.

I absolutely loved this book and it was 100% worth the wait!

Y'all. If you needed any convincing to read this I have two words for you. THE BANTER.

I've always been and will always be a sucker for some good banter. I need an outlet to gush about how amazing this book was and how much I loved it so the rest of this review will just be that.

That said I loved this book top to bottom, left to right, up down, start finish, This book was amazing. Holy crap it blew my socks off with how much I loved it. I know this book is going to make it into my reread rotation, especially for the fall.

The opposites attract enemies to lovers was really well done and the MCs chemistry was through. the. freaking. roof.

I loved the side and background characters as well and then with the murder mystery witchy content in the background it really got me to pay attention to characters I otherwise wouldn't have given a second glance. The twist, though I did predict it, was aptly twisty! I saw it coming a handful of chapters ahead and still gasped.

Audibly. I gasped audibly. Everyone knows how good a book has to be for you to emote out loud. This book had me doing that the whole time. I need it in ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audible *immediately*.

Charming romance set in a historical town.
. I could NOT put this book down and read every moment for two days. This is an incredible HEA story set in Salem Ma. It’s fun, interesting, and the romance is scorching. The character and world building were incredible.

The main character Gwen is lovable and funny. You can’t help but root for her. Her enemy to lovers crush from Childhood -Graham- you are equally exasperated by but you soften up to him as time goes on and the story develops. I love how the characters are described so you can picture them in your heads and who would play them in a movie or TV series.

The story has a boatload of banter and then some steamy scenes. This is NOT a paranormal romance. There are some witchy characters but there’s no obvious magic or really unexplained things. It’s more of a history of magic and some Wiccan but no Harry Potter magic.

You’ll never guess who the big bad is and I liked that. I was surprised. The friendship between Flo and Gwen was relatable and funny. I wish the book was longer because I absolutely devoured it. I also wish we got a little more Des!

I love that it ends neatly but opens up more love possibilities and book 2 in the Salem world.

It’s so hard to sift through the junk out there in the self published book world. I can always count on JJ books to be well written and to keep the plot moving with just enough humor and details to set quality scenes. I can’t wait for the next one and wish this one was 200 pages more!

When will Julie Johnson get her TV series! The forbidden royal series was my favorite but this series could take that from me!

Get this preordered NOW just in time for a fall Halloween read.

A captivating romance, with mystery, witches, and a witty FMC, Gwen Goode.

'Sure, I have a magic wand. It's in my nightstand - Gwen Goode, enjoying six unique vibration patterns'.

Synopsis
From a difficult upbringing, Gwen sought refuge with her aunt in Salem for 12 weeks each year. Once her aunt passes away, she inherits her witchy shop, selling potions and trinkets in the heart of Salem.

When ritualistic killings show up around the town, including in her shop alley, Gwen has to work with heartthrob, Graham, a 'grey' private investigator. She's loved Graham since she was 10, but ever since she overheard him making fun of the person owning the witchy shop, she has hated him.

Working together, they inevitably get closer. Maybe hate is walking a fine line with love.

Thoughts
I could not stop reading, I was drawn in from the get go and love a witchy mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed at the start of each chapter, there's a witty remark from Gwen.. some I can relate to entirely:

''Why they decided to call it 'emotional baggage' instead of 'griefcase' is simply beyond me - Gwen Goode, loathing the English language'.

'I'm more of a dog person - Gwen Goode, forced to hold a newborn'

Highly recommend, especially with a pumpkin spice latte.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC, I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I’ve read many of Julie Johnson’s books and enjoyed them so naturally I was excited to try her newest book! I found the premise intriguing - witches, curses, and a little mystery set in Salem, MA. The main character, Gwen, is a little quirky and her love interest, Graham, is all male. Unfortunately, this one fell flat for me and I didn’t really buy into their chemistry. They became acquainted as kids/teens when Graham pulled a sea urchin out of Gwen’s foot. She fell hopelessly in love and he wouldn’t give her the time of day. Fast forward about 15 years and they have a combative relationship. Their coupling came on too sudden for me and Graham’s personality seemed to change. The writing was fine. Although the witty one-liners seemed forced and not appropriate for the settings they occurred in. I felt the humor was being forced into each situation. And what’s with saying “Goddess” instead of “Goodness”? At first I thought it was a typo but then I realized it was not.

Overall, this one didn’t impress me. There will be a 2nd book in the series centered around a different character. I highly doubt I’ll read that one. Still love JJ, just not this one!

loved the book and the relationship with the characters it reminded me so much of enemies to lovers but with a witch book store and the place it took where it takes is where i live in salem so i felt like i could relate!

Gwen is an easy character to love and root for. It had a surprising amount of action for a romance as well. I do feel that this was nearly too cheesy of a romance for my personal preference (soooo many “babes” and “baby’s”) and used some phrases specifically “dead on my feet” to the point of redundancy. Overall, I enjoyed it and would read the next in this series.

This one was a fun time! I love romcoms that are sugary sweet but also make me belly laugh. Our characters were enjoyable and the occult vibes were immaculate.

Bad Luck Charm was the perfect mix of romance, mystery and supernatural. I loved the character building, the backstory was strong and the small town feel was enchanting. The slow burn romance was so good I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait to read this book again in the fall. I feel like it’ll be the perfect book to read in the days leading to Halloween.
