**Iris and Gabriel have just arrived home from a make-or-break holiday. But a shock awaits them. One of their closest friends, Laure, is in their house. The atmosphere quickly becomes tense as she oversteps again and again: sleeping in their bed, wearing Iris' clothes, even rearranging the furniture.
Laure has walked out on her husband―and their good friend―Pierre, over his confession of an affair and a secret child.
Iris and Gabriel's only respite comes in the form of a couple new to town. But with them comes their gardener, who has a checkered past.
Soon, secrets from all their pasts will unravel, some more dangerous than they could have known.**
B A Paris is one of those Authors I read without even reading the blurb, I devoured this one in 2 days! it hooks you from the start and you want to keep reading. I was suspicious of everyone but I did not see that ending coming. once I realized I couldn't believe it!
I can't say I really "Loved" any of the characters they all had something about them that was a little annoying or off about them.
But this one does go to almost the top of my favorites by her not quite topping behind closed doors!

Iris and Gabriel arrive home from a holiday, only to discover 0ne of their closest friends, Laure, is in their house. She has left her husband and, because she knew they were out of town, she let herself in and has been staying there ever since. The atmosphere quickly becomes tense as she oversteps again and again: sleeping in their bed, wearing Iris' clothes, even rearranging the dishes in the kitchen. When Iris questions Laura about why she has left Pierre, she said that he confessed of having an affair and a secret child. Iris and Gabriel want to be supportive of their friends, but as Laure's mood becomes increasingly unpredictable, her presence takes its toll. Iris and Gabriel's only respite comes in the form of a couple new to town. But with them comes their gardener, who has a checkered past. Soon, secrets from all their pasts will unravel, some more dangerous than they could have known.
I am normally a huge fan of this author's books but this one was not one of my favorites. The pacing was rather slow, none of the characters were particularly likeable, and Laure just flat-out got on my nerves with the way she ran all over Iris and Gabriel and they just let her. Having never been in that situation, I had difficulty feeling empathy, so I was more of the "why don't you just throw her out already?" mentality. The ending did have several excellent twists that I was not expecting. I hated that all of the best parts were crammed into that one section, but the twists were definitely what redeemed the book for me.......and there were several, right in a row. All-in-all, this is a solid 3. This won't deter me from reading future books from this author. Not every book is for every person, and this one just didn't resonate with me.
I love B.A. Paris’ thrillers! right from the start I was like woah this is a lot of trauma and everyone seems unhinged but honestly I was quickly hooked.
I love this kind of thriller where you’re trying to figure out WHO is being deceptive and WHY.
I didn’t see the ending truth coming at all so bonus points for that. At times I felt like maybe there was too much going on but maybe it was necessary for all of the deceptions and for everything to come together.
This was a good one, I’ll keep reading her books for sure.
Wow, this story was more complex than it appeared at first glance. I liked that it was told from dual points of view. The action, the drama, mystery all helped to increase the suspense. My opinion of one character changed the closer to the end of the novel. The multiple twists left me awestruck.
This story starts off slow. It starts getting interesting about ten chapters in, building up to lots of anxiety with this guest. Then the story just goes all over the place and just drags along until closer to the end where it might be brought back together. Lots of plot holes. The last two books I read by this author also were just ok for me.
The Breakdown is still my favorite.
This book. I love reading anything by B.A. Paris and for a while in this book I was worried because there were a lot of loose ends and unanswered questions. I had suspected a few things and that there was a part of the story we weren't being told. This book came together well and I enjoyed it a lot. It's worth the time getting to the very end and seeing everything come together.
Yay!!! The first book I’ve read by B.A. Paris and my first five star read of the year. This one is so mysterious, a great psychological thriller, and wonderfully entertaining. I went into it blind and was pleasantly surprised. A thriller that has such good character depth is hard to find but I found one!
Iris Pelley and Gabriel have been friends with Parisians Pierre and Laure since they met on their honeymoon years ago. They return from vacation to find Laure in their home because Pierre has told her a secret and now they are separating.
While Laure is there, Iris and Gabriel befriend new neighbors Hugh and Esme and their recovered alcoholic gardener, Joseph. All these characters intertwine in some way and when dead bodies turn up it’s not clear what is going on. The style of this thriller felt fresh and the way it unfolds kept me turning the pages. Every character is questionable. The epilogue is the icing on the cake. What an accomplishment this books is for Paris! I now need to go read her others.
Pick this up for a mysterious thrill with great character depth
This book did not disappoint!! It kept me turning each page waiting for what’s next! The character building was exquisitely done! This was my first book by this author and won’t be my last
This book was full of guessing and second guessing. I found it hard to put down because I needed to know who, what, when, where, why, and how!!! It was a little slow at times, and some of the relationships didn’t make sense, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!
This book didn't really work for me. I have enjoyed some other B.A. Paris books: The Breakdown, Bring Me Back, Behind Closed Doors. This was a bit slow-moving and repetitive for my taste. If you enjoyed her book The Dilemma, you might enjoy this one as well. I prefer a faster pace and more excitement. There were a bunch of different characters in this book, but it didn't go as deep with each character as I would have preferred.
The Guest was somewhat of a slow start book. However can we just say extreme plot twist!!! This book was inviting and ingenious. The ending was just shocking and I really did not see it coming…or maybe i’m just pretending *insert devious smirk*
I enjoyed reading The Gust by B.A Paris . Thank you to Netgalley and St Martins Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
In this newest domestic thriller by B A Paris the story centers around Iris and Gabriel. This seemingly perfect couple is successful and happy. They have a wonderful daughter, great friends and great careers. All of that starts to collapse when Gabriel finds a dying young man that shares a message leaving Gabriel emotionally wrecked. Then a surprise guest arrives, their friend Laure. She is the wife of his best friend, Pierre and friend to Iris. Laure is devastated after Pierre drops a bombshell on her. Laure begins to wear out her stay by intruding in their lives. The only positive is a couple that moves in the neighborhood and befriends the couple. Tensions begin to rise as Laure, the neighbors, Iris and Gabriel all reveal secrets that may devastate the life that they have.
I have not enjoyed a B.A. Paris this much since Behind Closed Doors. This one was full of surprises and twists that are her trademark. The story did drag a little in the middle but was able to get back on course by the last part of the book.

This is the B.A. Paris that I know and love! This book had tension, suspense and of an unexpected twist. Laure is having family problems so she comes to stay with Iris & Gabriel. It's fine, until it isn't. Laure oversteps boundaries and begins to take over their space. It doesn't help that Gabriel and Iris are already having their own marriage issues.
Add in new neighbors and a suspicious but attractive gardener...and you have a great story. None of these characters seemed that likable & everyone was hiding something. This was definitely a must read. By the time I got to the end of the story, I thought I had it all figured out. I was all wrong!!!

I’ll start by saying this was my first ever B.A. Paris read and while I wasn’t enthralled by this particular read, I’ll most probably pick up one of her other books in the future.
That being said, this book unfortunately did not do it for me. First, the pacing was really slow and most of the book felt like a drama more so than a thriller. The interactions and conversations between the characters were at times too forced and just not organic. Also, how quickly Iris & Gabriel became such close friends with Hugh and Esme was, I’d say, strange. Again, not exactly believable. I couldn’t connect with anyone or anything and I wasn’t captivated at any point. The majority of the book felt pretty forced and in result, I had to force myself to come back and keep reading.
However, I will say I did not expect that ending and it did have me saying “wtf”, which is a positive thing in my book. It was a pretty shocking and wild ending which is why I bumped up the rating I was going to previously give it.
I really do wish I would have loved it more seeing as I was so excited to read it, but nonetheless it won’t be my last B.A. Paris read.
I seriously hate hate hate leaving negative reviews. This book hooked me, but then led me around in circles for hours and hours and required an HOUR long epilogue to explain all the twists and turns. Not my cup of tea. The audiobook narrator was fantastic though!
Thank you Netgalley, B. A. Paris, and St. Martins Press for the ebook copy!! This was an excellent show burn that I could not put down. The end will have your mind blown!! B. A. Paris does it again!!!
Many thanks to St Martin's Press for an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Behind Closed Doors is one of my favorite domestic thriller books, and I'm always interested in reading what B.A. Paris has written! The Guest follows a close friend who has overstayed her visit. Laure lets herself in to Iris and Gabriel’s house, where she has stayed plenty of times over their twenty year friendship, when they are out of town. Iris and Gabriel are surprised to find her when they return, but it seems like she just needed to get away from her husband, Pierre, for a bit. But then she doesn't leave, until she finally decides to go home to talk in person with Pierre, although he doesn't show up for their meeting. Laure returns and continue staying with Iris and Gabriel. Nothing too remarkable happens, other than Laure wearing out her welcome, and about halfway through I was questioning the thriller classification. But the second half is hard to put down, as secrets start being unveiled and more than a couple of people end up dead. The epilogue made my jaw drop with shock at the twists and turns revealed there! If you're looking for a short but good thriller, this one is a great recommendation and it will be available on Tuesday!
I am a big B.A. Paris fan! I was so excited to get my hands on her newest novel before it was even published. This one was definitely a slow burn for me. I wasn't as captivated as I usually am with her novels. The twist, and I'll admit its a good one I didn't see coming, comes at the very end. I think it was worth the time and a little bit of redundant dialog between many of the characters to get to the end. I didn't really love anyone in this book. They all had their flaws.
In the end it was good, just not my favorite from B.A. Paris.
