This is a great book highlighting the fundamentals of fasting. I would recommend to anyone wanting to lose weight and/or lead a healthier lifestyle!
This is an amazing companion to Gin Stephens' Fast, Feast, Repeat book. I love how she lays out a plan and helps to reinforce the meaning behind the rules. Each day provides a to-do list and a checklist for effective fasting. As someone who is new to fasting, I found this day-by-day approach to be effective and motivational. I highly recommend this as a key tool in your journey to effective fasting.
First I have to say I did not finish the book. Not because it wasn't good. Quite the opposite. It was a great tool in explaining to me what Intermittent fasting was all about. The author goes into great detail about how to be successful in your IF (Intermittent fasting) journey. She gives information on different programs for different people. She breaks down the reasons people are successful and what things can be a hindrance to the process. She even gives additional resources and support groups for the reader if they should need it. I personally found this is not a good option for myself at this time and will not be able to complete the 28 day program this book promotes. But that is due to my own personal reasons and has nothing to do with the book. If I ever find myself in a position where IF is an option I will definitely go back to this book for guidance as I do believe the author does a fantastic job breaking things down to a manageable and informative process. I did remove 1 star due to right off the bat the author pushes the purchase of her other book. And though it may be a great resource this book should stand alone or be marketed as a companion guide. 4/5 stars.
This book had a lot of good info, especially if you're new to the world of IF. Because I already knew a lot, it was redundant to me, but a good refresher nonetheless!
This was exactly what I needed to get back into IF. I've read Fast, Feast, Repeat twice over the years and have been a very successful intermittent faster. Then I got pregnant twice and have needed the motivation to get back into fasting after a long 2+ years of nourishing a pregnant body. This companion guide reminded me of what I love about fasting and gave me the weekly tools to begin again and enjoy it fully.
Thank you to NetGalley, Gin Stephens and St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's Griffin for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Let's start with what I didn't like 1st:
1- I have to buy another book to read this book. Not going to happen honestly. I don't have the desire to read tandem to understand a book.
2. I didn't like that it was 28 days. Why not 30? Why not 31? My months would look odd.
Disclaimer: I did not read 1 section a day because it's 28 days and I didn't want my review in limbo for that long. Will I go back and do this day by day, yes. Why? Because I like to intemperate fast and this is a great guide for that.
The things I liked:
Gin feels Approachable. There's a few other people that come into the book with their own stories and there's science backed evidence in there. As a nurse, I appreciate that. I also like that this person is a retired teacher. It made me understand why the book is written how it is written, because I'm also a teacher. This makes the breakdown even better! Why? In order to succeed, you must do vs being told to do.
I really enjoyed the end of chapter checkin. The eating window checkin was great for mindfulness. I appreciated the NSV (non scale victory) because honestly, the scale is evil. I LOVED THE REFLECTION!!!! this part in and of itself is the best. If you're truly honest with yourself in this book, you'll know reflecting can lead to success. But, I can't leave out my second fav part: preparing for success (strategies and goals for tomorrow)! This is huge! You must have a strategy to be successful or it is just a dream.
They're are so many great pieces of information in here that, regardless if you IF or not, are beneficial to your health. I feel this book was well written. But I'm still deducting 1 star for #1 and 1 for #2. I am working through a 75 hard and feel this book will be a great guideline to follow for it.
