Thank you for a copy of this book to review. A good resource full of handy tips and tricks on how to cope with stress and anxiety. I found several of the recommendations very good in staying calm under pressure and composed in the face of stress and conflict. Definitely recommend for those looking for ways to be calm in the face of the chaos of the daily grind.
This book came into my life during a very stressful time. I was desparate for the knowledge I found here! I love and appreciate when people find alternatives to traditional medicines approach. This is defintinely one I will come back and reference whenever I feel overwhelmed.
Such a beautiful way to practice calmness, self care is really important to me and I have taken aspects from this book and incorporated them into my day to day routine.
Easy to follow along and informative without being overwhelming for beginners or more practiced readers of wellness.
My teenager daughter also enjoyed this book and has recommended it to her friends.
Thanks for the opportunity to ready 😊
This was an interesting read that has given me some good tips to try to incorporate into my daily routine.
The mindfulness information was the most useful.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
A book perfect for starting off your year with learning new habits and remaining calm (something we can all use!). Extremely helpful, full of some familiar calming strategies and some new to me. Full of great guidance, coping mechanisms and strategies which will help usher in a new calming year!
I really enjoyed this book, even so that I passed a few tips onto my husband who struggles.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I suffer from anxiety that escalated during covid pandemic, and unfortunately life for me hasn't returned to normal, the anxiety and panic which leaves me with racing mind, sleepless nights, while I have started meditating, and using yoga to help center and calm my mind, I still have moments where it is not enough. This book, calmism, has helped combine other aspects it is broken into 8 sections that focus on more than just the mind fullness, ie healthy eating, managing stress. I really like it is a "whole body" approach
I wanted to like this book more, but only 3 stars, and here is why...
This book didn't really reveal anything new for me. For someone who was exploring the topic of relaxation, different types of recharging, and overall, mental health, all of the options included are the ones that are pretty well known, at least to me personally. 1-3 pages on each sub-habit, does give a nice summary of what it does and why it's needed, but not more than that. Should it give more? Honestly, I think, no, it was enough for the type and the chosen format of the book.
Not to discourage anyone from reading, the book itself is fine. If you are feeling tired, or getting closer to burnout, and you don't know what to do about it, first of all, please get professional help, but this book will serve as a nice companion or a checklist to start acting and trying those suggested different ways of how to get reset. calmism is structured well to pick out and select the type of rest you need now, get the short info about it, and start doing it. In the very end, the author offers a schedule that you can try to partly or fully integrate into your life to keep yourself rested and healthy.
3 stars only because I didn't learn anything new, and it was a bit hard for me to get through the book.

If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed or burnt out - this is the book for you.
Evidence based, well researched and with case studies - this book is dense with information on how to find calm.
Willett’s book describes 8 different types of rest, and is abundant with practical suggestions.
When you find calm, you engage the parasympathetic nervous system which helps your body rest and repair. A feeling of wellness and vitality will follow.
Thanks to @NetGalley @adlibpublishers and Dr Alexis Willett for a copy.
I thought this book broke down daily rest and incorporate elements of calm into your daily life in small easy to digest ways. I enjoyed seeing the thoughts from the panel that were tested as it felt more rooted in reality and like it had been properly tested. I'm definitely going to try to include some of these elements into my everyday life going forward. An enjoyable read.
This book is like a calming hug in book form. The habits are easy to adapt into your life. I found the habits to be useful. I look forward to implementing them.
I found this very helpful. Some of the calming strategies are familiar, such as meditation, yoga and controlled breathing. Some of them are unusual, however, like sound baths! Alexis Willett also provides guidance on overcoming distractions, and coping with the modern world. The panel discussions about whether a particular strategy helped them are especially interesting.
This will certainly help readers to find calmness!

A calm & chill read.
I pick up this book because of its relaxing cover. Also the detail sounds promising and most of all, I need to find way to relax. Idk how to describe, but sometimes even when i go to bed, I still cant fully rest. My mind is always on a race, my body is in low mode and I feel tired easily. Until I read this book and then realize:
Good quote: "We live in a world that va;ues busyness, efficiency and success... Being constantly on the go and busy, busy, busy is like a badge of honour and, when we have a spare moment, its now a routine to post online to prove how dynamic we are. Everything has become a competition to see who an be busier, most successful in their career, have the most perfect family..., and own the best things."
This easy read is not a book that tells you what you SHOULD/ HAVE TO do to relax. It shows you the simple & approachable way to find calm in Everyday life. Alexis Willett writes the book like a real friend indeed. And i enjoyed this relaxing read.
"I know that's hard for some of you who feel compelled to finish books, and if you want to read it all thats brilliant, but dont feel you must. It shoudn't feel like a chore... Read it as you wish. I want you to feel calm and in control of your own choices. That's the point of calmism!"
When i read this book, I dont feel pushed, or pressured to finish in a rush. I feel calmism! And that's great!
Well, this book did help me to calm down…at least in the sense that I would read it before bed to fall asleep quicker…
Although it is written in a less formal, less textbook style that I really appreciated, it still talked for too long about concepts that should have just been a paragraph or even a sentence. I had to force myself to get through this and found myself taking up non-reading hobbies rather than pick this back up.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.
I am disappointed to say that it took me a while to get through this book. I don’t know if it was because of the format or the fact that a lot of the information was stuff I had already read before. I know this book will probably help a lot of people, and who knows, maybe in six months I might appreciate it more.
I will say that habit 5 was interesting and I will probably try some of these techniques.
Thank you Netgalley and Ad Lib Publishers for the ARC.
Despite this book being for eight steps to calmism it did not actually work for me, but I do like the sentiment behind the book, these days everyone is so busy and we are made to feel lazy if not constantly doing things - but this book calls for calm but otherwise this book didn't really work for me and I found it hard to follow.
Thank you to Ad Lib Publishers and NetGalley for my free ARC in return for my honest review!
This is a book one needs to not only read but also practice and see what works for them. So, I have read it in a few days but if all the tips and tools given works for me or not remains debatable until I immerse myself doing them.
For some reason, the formatting of this book was wrong when I was reading on my kindle. Some words were jumbled up together. Like "somewordsdidnothaveanyspaces" in between. Like this. It made it difficult to read the book sometimes.
I like the approach of the author and I will try to follow the given instructions. Until then I give this book a 3 star for the effort.
A fantastic book that covers themes of coping with stress in life! I am constantly in search of new techniques on how to stay calm and composed as a teacher, and this book is definitely will be for future reference!
This book didn't reveal anything new or groundbreaking about how to live a calm life. Most of it is tried and tested advice. However I did enjoy the aspect of having a sample group try our the suggestions and feedback. The sample group is made up of people in a mixture of life situations, so it was really interesting to see their reactions to the habits of calm.
A great self help read that has covered every aspect of dealing with stresses in your life! I found this to be incredibly helpful especially the sections around sleep and food. I am always eager to learn new techniques and this book will still in my home library for any future reference! Highly recommended!
