The After Girls, by Leah Konen, tells the story of Sydney and Ella, who are grieving the death of their best friend Astrid. Astrid has just died by suicide, to the surprise of those around her. Told in alternating points of view, we see how Sydney and Ella react and grieve differently following the death of Astrid. We see how their relationship with each other transforms and how their relationships with those around them changes as well. Astrid's family is also a big component of this novel, including Astrid's extended family - her cousin Jake and her aunt as well. Ella gets close to Jake, first meeting him at the coffee shop that she works at owned by Astrid's mom Grace. Weird things happen as well at the cabin where Astrid died at/the cabin where the trio used to hang out at all the time. Ella is 100% freaked out and Sydney is trying to ignore everything going on. Is Astrid communicating from the dead or is something else going on at the cabin?
3.5 stars from me! Took a little while for me to get into, but I flew threw the last 40%.
Requested and downloaded this book back in 2013 with every intention of reading it but then it expired on my device before I had the chance. Have felt bad about that and as a result haven't wanted to leave a review but with more and more publishers relying on Feedback ratings I need to clear out some of these older titles in my queue.
I received this book free from Netgalley for an honest review.
I’m sorry, I no longer have access to this title to read and review it for you.
I read this story 5 years ago. Never came to give feedback. Looks like I read it in one sitting and gave it 3 stars.
Compelling story, loved the characters, didn't want it to end.
