Sadly, I went on too many requesting sprees when first starting out on NetGalley and it has tanked my ratio. Now that I’m taking my role as a reviewer more seriously, I’m being more intentional with the books I request and clearing out my shelves of books that I’m no longer interested in.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book. When I finally read it, I will come back and write a review.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for granting me free access to this advanced reader copy. I DNFed part way in as I just couldn't get into the story but it was an interesting premise.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
This was a good young adult story dealing with magic and witches. I liked it and if there's another book in the series I'll read it too.
Thank you Netgalley and Scholastic Press for the e-arc!
So excited for the release of the second book in the Witcher series. I heard so many people say that it was just as good if not better than the first, and I completely agree. I think the pacing is a bit better in the sequel than in the first book, and I loved the direction the author took with the plot. The plot was definitely a bit easier to follow!
I also love the direction I took with the magic and the characters. I think the coven and the relationships all the girls have with each other actually work better in this book as we get to see how deep their relationships develop.
Shadow Coven is the ultra-dark, ultra-tense sequel to the Witchery. We thought things were bad in book 1,with Wolves and the Swamp, and hoped for better times in the sequel after their defeat. Not to be so.
The coven and their boy pals have their friendship put to the test as each of them faces danger.
I need to read book 3 to see how Death, bloodpacts, and betrayal sort out!
Oh this one was just as good as the first!!! Actually I think it's a bit better. I loved getting to dive further into these characters and I really appreciate this series so much. Iris continues to be incredible and she is still very much my favorite character in this series. Mathew is such a good match for her and I love all their scenes together. It was nice to get more Thalia in this too. It was because of her I think that I started to come around more to Logan, who I didn't really like in book 1. Overall, this is such a worthy sequel to an already great first book. I'm unsure if there'll be another book, but I'm really happy with this duology and love so much about it.
The first book in the Witchery duology was magical and mysterious, and Shadow Coven was no different.
This story picks off not long after the end of The Witchery, with both our beloved Red Coven and their Hammersmitt boys recovering from the dramatic events of last school year and trying to enjoy a normal summer. But witches are going missing, old family and friends are reappearing, and something is stirring in the Swamp.
I loved every single plot line in this book, and the way they overlapped without being confusing. New developments in the witches' powers made the magic system even more interesting, and the further exploration of characters' backstories was super exciting. Watching all of them grow more comfortable with their magic and with each other was especially cool. The friendships, sisterhood, and romance in this series is simply fantastic.
The only flaw within this book is the loose ends--some of the plot lines came to a rather rushed conclusion during the climax, and while there were definitely intentional open endings, there were also a couple things that just felt glossed over or forgotten about. Fingers crossed we get a third book so we can see these characters and stories continued!! Either way, I will definitely be reading whatever S. Isabelle writes next.
I liked this one, but not as much as book 1. This one seemed to be less action packed and more running around. I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next in the series.
Thanks Scholastic, NetGalley, and S. Isabelle for an advance copy of Shadow Coven book 2 of The Witcher. This is perfect for spooky season and is an excellent follow-up to book one. The Haunting Season is over but yet there are still plenty of mysterious things happening at Mesmortes. Sage and the rest of her coven are spread out but they have to solve these problems or no one will be safe. Definitely recommend both books by S. Isabelle for a great spooky read.
Diversity and witchcraft are perfect book mates in Shadow Coven. The relationships feel real and could be happening anywhere. Loved the feelings I got as the mysteries were revealed and explained. Young adult witchcraft in a fantastic backdrop with real people who just happen to have some very special talents.
Shadow Coven was a perfect follow up to The Witchery. I enjoyed watching the characters grow into their magic and passed their past traumas. It was definitely a page turner as we learn more about their past, futures and the dangers of the present. I am excited for the next installment of The Witchery as the gang fights toward being the baddest witches out.
In this second book in The Witchery series, the team has recovered from the trials in the first book and are trying to further their knowledge and so their magic. But trouble is not far away and each member must solve their own problems while working toward the Coven's strength. This was an excellent follow up on the first book, which should be read before reading this one.
I adored the first book in S. Isabelle's The Witchery series, and the sequel did not disappoint. Going more in-depth into interpersonal relationships between the girls gives more of a reason for their actions in the previous novel. My major criticism of the first book was the lack of world-building; this was amended. The Shadow Coven will be enjoyable for those who liked the first book in the series but would be a challenge if the reader is not a fan of the first book.
Wow. Okay now where's the next one? lol
This was good and I'm sorry it took me so long so finally read it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Now that Haunting Season is over things should be back to normal bug the only issue is it’s not. Jailah, Iris, Logan, and Thalia each have issues that need to be resolved. Logan is still hearing the Wolves. Thalia is trying to cleanse the swamp. Jailah uncovers hidden magic under Mesmortes. Iris is transforming into a reaper.
Let me start off by saying how much I enjoyed reading the book. Each of the main characters having a plot line was so important to me. I liked that throughout the book none of them seemed like secondary characters and that’s so important.
Thank you Scholastic, Scholastic Pres, Colored Pages Book Tour and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
In the second installment of The Witchery, we see our main characters deal with issues outside of the Haunting Season and the swamp. We also see how new characters received their witchery. Overall, each character has grown individually, but they still manage to remain their own coven with additional members that added over the summer.
Thank you to Netgally for this advanced reader’s copy. All opinions below are solely my own.
So, while I do understand that I received an uncorrected proof, it was RIDDLED with errors that kept pulling me out of the story. I enjoyed the characters but felt that the story was a bit disjointed overall. I don’t know if I just didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book or what, but it felt like this one was just trying to do too much to focus on one overall plot line. I sort of wish that the author had chosen one witch to follow rather than trying to shove them all into one book. All that being said I do want to see where this is going so I will read any future books in this series.
This is perfect for anyone looking to celebrate a little haunting season. Now that the haunting season is over, things should go back to normal, but things aren’t quite so simple. Death pulls Iris’ calling card and gives her work to do, Thalia finds herself unable to heal the swamp and potentially being corrupted herself. Logan keeps hearing the wolves and May still have a connection to them, and Jailah finds that there is dangerous magic in Mesmortes.
This book was the perfect follow up to the first, and each of their stories makes sense for what their roles were in the first book. Their relationships develop further in this book and I really like their dynamic as a coven and how much trust they place in each other and how much they’re willing to do for each other.
My only issue for this book was that there were just too many threads going on. In the first book, all the girls are on the same goal and generally working along the plot. This book has all the girls, plus Trent and Matthew and their stories, which are all independent. It was a bit much to keep track of and made following the plot line difficult because there were so many plot lines.
The exploration of magic in this book is even better than that in the first book, the characters get more of their individual time to shine and I liked getting to know each of them. Plus each of their stories were really interesting (just hard to keep track of). Overall a great sequel to a great book!
Shadow Coven is a noble follow up to a very strong debut, The Witchery, it definitely did not let me down from my expectations. The characters and their relationships are believable and the twists are so unexpected and fun! I cannot wait to read more of these stories in the future!
