Okay maybe not the scariest book ever but definitely spooky and a great way to get children into spooky books. It definitely is more mature and complex than his other Goosebumps in a refreshing way. The story is filled with hybrid creatures and monsters and twists and turns.

Thank you so much to Scholastic & NetGalley for sending me an e-ARC of Scariest. Book. Ever.

This is the year of Goosebumps for me. I’m currently rereading all of the classic novels while I simultaneously watch their ‘90s episode counterpart & I. am. vibing.

& I’m so excited that R.L. Stine is still throwing us some Goosebumps content! Scariest. Book. Ever. is the first book in his new series & its everything you can expect but more. It was like a comfort blanket of nostalgia, but mixed with updated writing and new spooky tales with his twisty twists and silliness. If you are an R.L. Stine fan or want to get to know him, Scariest. Book. Ever. is a great book to pick up!

There is something so special about RL Stine books, that even at 42, reading a new one feels like Christmas morning. Scariest. Book. Ever. feels just like the old Goosebumps books—a little silly, a little spooky, and 100% a good time. There's a little bit of a Hansel and Gretel vibe to this, and I'm a sucker for stories with kids lost in the woods.

Goosebumps is BACK! The fast-paced story is filled with hybrid creatures and monsters. Parts are creepy and atmospheric. R.L. Stine did a great job of making it frightening without being too scary. Honestly this is a perfect kick starter for this new series! I'm looking forward to the next one.

SCARIEST BOOK EVER - GOOSEBUMPS HOUSE OF SHIVERS #1 – by R.L. Stine

As I bore witness alongside twins Betty and Billy to the horrors within this book, now camping out for free in my head—possibly raising havoc and mayhem in my mares tonight—I can honestly say, had I read the SCARIEST BOOK EVER GOOSEBUMPS HOUSE OF SHIVERS #1 as a child coupled with all my fears and phobias, I would rank it as one of the most scariest books this reader has ever read.

Highly Recommend!

R.L. Stine has really up is creep factor in this first installment of a new Goosebumps spin off! Twins Billy and Betty get dumped off at their uncles house. The thing is they don't know their uncle so they have no clue what he looks like that is a bit part of this book. Also there is a spooky Wayward Forest were there are all sorts of creepy creatures including the one that is featured on the cover a Manbat!

This is definitely creepier than the original Goosebumps (at least the ones that I have read) so keep that in mind when decided on if you think your kid can handle the scares!

In R.L. Stine's latest Goosebumps installment, the thrill of childhood mysteries is brilliantly reignited. As a longtime fan of the series, I found immense joy in the nostalgic echoes of my youth as I delved into the pages of this new adventure. The introduction of a brand new lineup of villains breathed fresh life into the familiar Goosebumps universe, with iconic monsters transformed into delightful, yet terrifying, characters.

What truly stood out was the charm of our young narrator, Billy, whose witty banter with his formidable twin sister Betty added depth to the storyline. The twists woven into the plot were not only cute but also pleasantly quirky, offering a delightful surprise at every turn. Stine masterfully captures the essence of middle school life, making it relatable for young readers while evoking a sense of fond reminiscence for older ones.

For middle school-aged readers, this book is an absolute gem. The humor and terrifying tone that Goosebumps is renowned for remain intact, but with a bigger, bolder, and funnier approach. It's a cleverly crafted introduction to the world of mysteries for young minds. While adults might find it cute, the real magic lies in the way it captivates the imaginations of its intended audience. Goosebumps continues to shine, proving that the legacy of spooky tales is in excellent hands with this fresh and exciting series.

One of the best Goosebumps stories I've read in a while. This is a riveting in-depth tale that just keeps twisting deeper and deeper. It's a strange story for sure... So many twists and turns in that dark forest! Crazily creepy creatures! The scariest book of secrets must be kept hidden at all costs!

This story is about a brother and sister duo, so boys and girls alike will enjoy reading this frightening tale. I wonder what volume 2 in this series will be about... because I'm definitely hooked on this type of story.

Goosebumps is back and feels just as nostalgic and fun as it did as a kid. RL Stines ability to craft a world and characters in a short 130 pages never ceases to amaze me. I enjoyed the character interactions and loved the spooky setting. Like I said with my last Stine novel I reviewed, I think going into these books with a teenage mentality and turning off the logic makes for a much more enjoyable Goosebumps experience. If you are looking for a very fun entry into spooky reading season, you really can’t go wrong with this or anything by RL Stine. Thank you to Net Galley for the review copy!

R.L. Stine never ceases to amaze. He has been putting out fantastic works of horror fiction for all ages for years now and this is a perfect example that he is not letting up anytime soon. The first entry into his new series is so much fun! Highly recommend for any Goosebumps fan.

I enjoyed reading this book to my kids! They asked every night for "goosebumps" and "monsters" so I'd read them a chapter before bed.

It's different than the original Goosebumps books because it's not as much supernatural horror as in Say Cheese and Die or Welcome to Camp Nightmare, there's supernatural components but the main storyline is not in any sense and is more break in/there's a stranger in my house horror.

I was really surprised with some of the twists, was annoyed with the parents but I guess the story couldn't have happened if they were "normal" parents. While reading the story, I kept going "I don't understand how the parents didn't wait to make sure they made it inside the house, that they didn't say hi to their own relative who was watching their kids" (that's not really a spoiler because it happens first thing) but if they had, then the whole story wouldn't have worked.

I was definitely excited to read this, it was a little slow and not as "great" as the originals but it was fun, suspenseful at times and overall I enjoyed it.

Holding true to the overall feel of the franchise, this first book in the Goosebumps House of Shivers series is the perfect way to dip your toe into Spooky Season.

I was so excited when I heard the news that Stine was releasing another branch in the Goosebumps tree. This entire franchise holds a special place in my heart and based on this cover alone, I was stoked to check this one out. This cover gives me total original series vibes!

In this story, we follow twins, Betty and Billy, whose parents need to travel to Europe for two weeks for work. They can't take the kids with them, so end up dumping them off at the home of their mysterious Uncle, who they don't even know. This is total Goosebumps adult logic. They barely slowed the car down, just booted them right out the door.

The kids are left to meet their Uncle on their own. Frankly, they're freaked out. Not only is this man practically a stranger, but his house is creepy as heck, set on the edge of a very ominous seeming forest. You can imagine what happens from there.

It did have a similar formula to earlier works, but I'm fine with that. It was exciting, fast-paced, included some fun adventure, a bit of mystery and spooky creatures as well. One of the elements of this that stood out to me was that it had a good antagonist. It gave the story some gripping tension and some believably scary moments for this Children's age group too.

I would absolutely recommend checking this one out if you are a Goosebumps fan, or if you have a Young Reader in your life who you would like to introduce to the franchise. I think this is a great place to start. In other good news, the second book in this series, Goblin Monday is set to release in March 2024. I'm already looking forward to it and you should too!

Thank you so much to the publisher, Scholastic, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I read this in an evening and had a fabulous time with it!

I’m well above R. L. Stine’s target audience, yet found this to be a fun and engrossing read. Steven King might be more appropriate for my age, but he scares my pants off. This was just perfect to give me a little spook along with a giggle. It will be fun to enjoy reading it to a younger group, and I’m excited to see their reactions! This is the kind of book that makes children into lifelong readers.

Thanks to NetGalley and Scholastic for sharing a digital ARC!
