R. L. Stine is back with a new series called House of Shivers.

The story follows Betty and Billy who are twins. They have to stay at their Uncle Wendell’s house for a few days while their parents go away. Uncle Wendell’s house is located in the Wayward Forest.

Their uncle is an avid book collector. He is currently in possession of the scariest book ever. He tries to keep it safe but people are always trying to come and steal it from him.

The twins have to help their uncle keep the book safe. This includes everything from fighting off manbats to giant incests and more.

This was a very easy and quick read with the right amount of scare (for me!)

I loved reading Goosebumps books growing up so this gave me all the nostalgic feelings and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scholastic Paperbacks for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

My son and I have read most of the original Goosebumps books and he's read a few of the newer series and we definitely prefer the original books. We both agreed that this was a lot like reading the classics and really enjoyed it. If you've been missing Goosebumps in the style of the originals then you should definitely read this one. We're looking forward to the rest of this series.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an advanced reader copy.

Another great spooky tale from R.L. Stine! Perfect for reluctant readers who want a story about adventure, oddities, and of course MONSTERS. This book kicks off Stine’s newest run of stories in his series “Goosebumps House of Shivers”.

Twins Billy and Betty are left to stay with their estranged and eccentric Uncle Wendell when their parents have to go off on a business trip. Two weeks in the dark forest with a family member they hardly know, who's only been described as an absurd story teller and the keeper of the “scariest book ever”. What's the worst that could happen?...

This story was full of twists and turns and I will definitely recommend it to my young patrons who are fans of horror, or are interested in trying the genre out.

I've been reading a lot of Goosebumps this year and was so excited to get a chance to read this one. Unfortunately, I found this story just a little disappointing. With a title "Scariest. Book. Ever." I expected it to be just a little more...spooky? Don't get me wrong there was plenty of creepy, crawly monsters goodness, but I just felt like this one was more of a mystery type book than a Goosebumps spooky story. I've read books by RL Stone that I loved way more and others that I enjoyed way less, I think this one just falls somewhere in the middle.

If R.L. Stine writes it, I'm probably going to read it. "Scariest. Book. Ever" brought back such a positive nostalgic feeling, I would have loved reading this as a teen and I'm looking forward to adding it to our collection for my kids to read.

I think this book is a great fit for middle graders, it has spooky and creepy elements but remains age appropriate for it's intended audience.

This was a great beginning to the new House Of Shivers series!

Thank you R.L. Stine , Net Galley and Scholastic for providing me with an ARC of this book!

R.L. Stine has done it again! Another fun spooky book that kids and teens will love.
I grew up reading Stine’s book when I was in middle school and through high school. His stories got me into liking horror and thrillers.
This book was no different. It was going back in time for me. Still fun, spooky (although since I am older now, it takes more to scare me), this will probably creep some middle schoolers but hopefully they will find it fun as I did.

Goosebumps is back. Let’s travel back to a magical time when I was still a kid and didn’t have to pay any bills. Where my only issues were making it home in time for TGIF and getting the straw inserted into my Capri Sun correctly.

Reader beware… you’re in for a scare!

RL Stine brings back a beloved classic and my little horror heart is so full after reading this. Kids young and adults young at heart are going to love this. Stine still has that power to creep you out and make it fun.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank NetGalley and Scholastic for the Advanced Readers Copy (ARC). As a tween and teen, I loved R.L. Stine's Fear Street book series, so I was excited to be approved to receive Scariest. Book. Ever. (Goosebumps House of Shivers, #1) for free in exchange for my honest review. I solely requested this book because of that, so I had no idea what to expect going into the story.

I'm not the target audience for this book, but I'm sure I would've loved it if I was eight to ten years old. There were a few red herrings, which was expected along with some anticipated twists and turns. The parts about the forest would have creeped me out if I was a kid as Stine did a great job of making it frightening without it being too scary. All of the hybrid creatures and animals helped make the story even creepier. As an adult, I found it to be a bit unbelievable, especially the part where the parents just dropped off their kids without making sure they were safe and sound.

Scariest. Book. Ever. (Goosebumps House of Shivers, #1) by R.L. Stine is a great book to introduce middle grade children to the horror genre without the story being too harrowing. This book would especially be great for those children who are hesitant to read. Four out of five stars is what I gave this story.

R.L. Stine is back to deliver a new series of Goosebumps books with new thrills and chills... and I am definitely here for the party! Right off the bat we get a book called SCARIEST. BOOK. EVER. and it leans into allll the Goosebumps tropes we love to see: siblings, doggo, estranged family member, etc. This book is split into three parts (in addition to all the chapters) and there are some TWISTS ahead!! R.L. Stine has tweaked his formula just a bit here by further subdividing the book and throwing in multiple twists which should help combat the short attention spans we all have now thanks to the 10-15 seconds glorification from TikToks, Reels, etc. It all works here because in the original Goosebumps books I always wondered what happened AFTER that twist on the final page... but here, we get to see! And more than once!

This is a great start to an updated Goosebumps franchise that I hope continues to deliver!

This story was a whole lot of fun. All the twists and red herrings made it so you never really knew what way was up and you just kinda went along for the ride

Looking for NIGHTMARE FUEL? Look no further than the terrifying creatures in this book! In the real world, I want to spend ZERO time in the Wayward Forest. From the safety of my couch, however, I'll gladly spend loads of time diving into the horrors that come from the House of Shivers series by R.L. Stine. Can't wait to read more of the series.

I was so happy I got an ARC of the new Goosebumps series, House of Shivers, because I've been a huge fan of Goosebumps since I was a kid.

The first book in the new Goosebumps series is great! All fans of Goosebumps will enjoy this story. It's filled with twists and turns and interesting characters that will keep you guessing until the end of the story. Once I started reading the book, it was hard to put down.

I highly recommend it. Goosebumps Forever!

R. L. Stine is back at it with a new Goosebumps series; House of Shivers. Betty and Billy are being send to stay with their Uncle Wendell in the middle of nowhere while their parents take a business trip, but nothing is what it seems. Not the house, not the woods, and not even Uncle Wendell! They’ll have to survive it all to keep Uncle Wendell’s most prized possession; the scariest book ever safe.

Got this one from NetGalley and there couldn’t have been a more timely approval. Just in time to fit in nicely to my Goosebumps July. And I wanted to read something from every series too!

When Billy and Betty are dropped off at their uncle’s, they find it hard to believe their parents would leave before he even opened the door. The reader should too, as not everything is as it appears! So when he tells them that he is the owner and protector of the scariest book ever, a book that if opened could unleash unbelievable horrors into the world, they don’t really know what to believe. To be honest, I was a little nervous this would be too similar to the book plot line used in the first Goosebumps movie, but luckily it’s completely different.

One of my favorite twists ever, especially in the fact that it was the same twist over and over. Super funny and still worked each time.

This one was fun, inventive, silly, and spooky. And more importantly, still shows us that Stine’s still got it. Personally a 4/5* for me. Scholastic and NetGalley, feel free to keep delivering these to my kindle.

A Thrilling Middle Grade Adventure - The Scariest. Book. Ever by R.L. Stine

Rating: 4/5 Stars

While this book didn't fully captivate me as I had hoped, it is certainly a must-read for any middle grade reader seeking a fast-paced, scary adventure. The story revolves around the B&B twins, Billy and Betty, who embark on an unforgettable journey.

Betty, the elder twin by a mere ten minutes, exudes confidence and independence, embodying all the qualities of a natural leader. On the other hand, Billy struggles to find his place alongside his sister, constantly overshadowed by her self-assured nature. However, all that changes when their Uncle Wendell takes them on a daring trip through the Wayward Forest to pursue a notorious book thief.

Lost in the midst of a forest teeming with terrifying creatures, Billy and Betty find themselves engaged in an unexpected competition. Although it may seem ill-timed to compete in such a perilous environment, Billy sees it as an opportunity to prove himself. Little do they know, a twist awaits them! Could it be a case of mistaken identity? Is Uncle Wendell truly their loving uncle, or is he the cunning book thief who led them into the forest? The stakes suddenly soar, and the mystery deepens!

However, from this point on, the story takes a peculiar turn. Multiple plot twists emerge, but instead of piquing my curiosity, they slightly confused me. The question of whether "The Scariest Book Ever" truly exists becomes a recurring theme, intertwined with the revelation of two fake Uncle Wendells. While these twists might be entertaining for some readers, they didn't resonate with me as much. I had hoped that Billy would discover his own sense of autonomy and identity, but unfortunately, the story concludes with a cliffhanger, leaving room for another adventure.

Despite its drawbacks, this book is perfect for those who enjoy an action-packed middle grade thrill. Once you start reading, you'll be hooked till the very end, devouring it in a single sitting. So, embrace the pace and get ready for an exhilarating and creepy journey with Billy and Betty in the Wayward Forest. Enjoy!

This made me feel like I was back in elementary school and devouring Goosebumps books. Such a nostalgic read and I know kids will be reading this new series left and right.

R.L. Stine knows how to give kids a taste of scary without being too scary and this is the perfect book.

I loved this! It brought back so many childhood memories. The book is fast paced, entertaining, and imo it’s hilarious! I really enjoyed everything that happened in the book and all the small little twists that left you wondering who the heck is the real Uncle Wendell?!

This was so reminiscent of the classic Goosebumps books, I literally couldn’t put it down! We have all of the classic Goosebumps books so when I seen R. L. Stine was coming out with a new series I couldn’t resist requesting it. We love Goosebumps so this was super fun and nostalgic to read even for a MG book.

Twins, Billy and Betty, are to be left with their eccentric Uncle Wendell while their parents fly to London for work for two weeks and they really don’t want to be left with someone that’s practically a stranger to them. Once they arrive, they find their strange Uncle Wendell who tells them a book from his collection has been stolen. The scariest book ever. And it must never be opened or fall into the wrong hands. They must catch the thief and retrieve the book to keep it safe. Thus entails a classic Goosebump story but in my opinion, more modern, more put together, and with more enticing monstrous creatures than his previous ones (or maybe I’ve just seen the others a gazillion times.)

This was a fun and twisty story figuring out Uncle Wendell and the truth behind him and the book. Interesting characters, interesting story plot, fun haunted and spooky setting, nice twist, and he keeps you interested and guessing until the end. Fun for the whole family. My ten year old daughter loved the story. Particularly the creepy monsters in the Wayward forest! I loved that R. L. Stine brought back his Goosebumps series with a bookworm story! If your children love Goosebumps, you’re gonna want to get this new series and it releases September 19th, just in time for October and book fairs!

Thank you to Netgalley and Scholastic for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Twins Billy and Betty are staying with their Uncle Wendell while their parents are out of town for work. They have never stayed with him before but know he's a huge book collector. Uncle Wendell lives in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a forest with weird creatures and no cell signal. Things go from bad to worse when they find out their Uncle's most prized secret book has been stolen and it becomes hard for the twins to figure out who to trust.

Fantastic new book series from R.L. Stine! The writing and storyline were fantastic and so were the new characters. Some of the creatures were freaky but overall very fun! The pacing of the book and point of view from Billy were done very well. This book is easy to read and enjoyable. There were some twists and turns that I did not expect which was nice. As a classic Goosebumps fan, I really liked this book and I'm interested to see how the series progresses!
