I loved the storyline and how the characters grew throughout the book. This was the first book I read from this author, but I will be keeping up with the future publications from this author.
"Get a Room" by Casey Dembowski is an absolutely charming read that brings the enemies-to-lovers trope to life in the best possible way (one of my absolute favorite tropes). This delightful book skillfully combines humor and sweetness, making it a heartwarming and engaging experience from start to finish. The author's adept portrayal of the main characters' witty banter, playful pranks, and evolving connection creates a magnetic pull that kept me thoroughly entertained. Against the backdrop of Brian's tumultuous year and Sarah's unexpected living situation, their journey unfolds with authenticity and emotion. The gradual transformation of their relationship from adversaries to something much more is both believable and endearing. With a mix of laugh-out-loud moments and touching interactions, "Get a Room" earns a solid 4-star rating for its ability to deliver a satisfying blend of romance, friendship, and personal growth.
The plot of this one sounded so fun - I'm a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers plotline with a side of forced proximity, but I found myself very irritated almost from the start of this one. I think the biggest thing for me was the lack of maturity in the characters. It didn't feel like they were acting their age and the antics felt very juvenile.
This book was so cute and hilarious and fun. It’s the perfect read for when you just need something that will give you pure joy.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! i didn't realize that this was a book with overlapping characters from Casey Dembowski's other works. So now I am excited to go read those as well. I fa book leaves me thinking about it for days afterwards, then it is always a 5 star read for me.
I like the enemies to lovers trope. I also enjoyed the relationship. Brian and Sarah seemed perfect together and I am glad they both got their happy ending.
A sweet and humorous romantic comedy, a very light read that will keep you laughing throughout. really enjoyed this read and it was fairly short which was a plus
This book was a good 3 star read.
The protagonists were fun, the story was plain and simple, the easy and fast pacing of the book was really nice to read. The forced proximity trope is not my favorite but it was nice discussed in this book and I liked it.
In my opinion, some parts of the book were a little bit unnecessary and made it seem quite long at some points but they resolved quite fast so it was fine. The writing style is easy and good for everyone who is just starting to read english books.
Overall it was a cute and fun read that was a little over the top but not bad at all.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this enemies-to-lovers novel. It was fantastic from the very first page.
I really really liked this book, it was really cute. This book hooked me pretty immediately but I didn’t finish it immediately because I wanted to savor it. We’ve got a best friends brother, fake dating, competition relationship going on in this one and it was fun. I loved these two together and how much they felt toward each other. The friend did piss me off like it did the two mains, I’m glad that the FMC stood up to her in the end and fought for her love. I agree with what the FMC’s mom said about the friend too, she was absolutely correct. I did get emotionally attached to the characters and did cry when their hearts broke and then when they were fixed. Loved the ending but the fact that it was 9 months and 24 days made me think of a baby haha. This is not that kind of book
LOVED the banter between Sarah and Brian! Enemies to lovers x Best Friends Brother is a top tier combination, and the author pulled it off so well!
A fun, enjoyably sweet romance with some very cute MC’s and easy to follow writing.
Get A Room is my first book by this author and I had high expectations. Whilst they weren’t all met, I still had a lot of fun with this and particular loved the first 30% of the book.
I really enjoyed the writing style and found it easy to digest but nothing too complex.
The characters were lovable and sweet.
I enjoy the romance but found it to be slightly forced and juvenile? I don’t know, something about the romance between Sarah and Brian was just cute really, very immature kind of teens in love vibes. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I don’t think it was for me.
I loved the fact Brian started Zumba Wednesdays with Sarah and the Star Wars references they made.
Also the cat!!!!!
I’d probably recommend this to people ages 16 and up because there were some slight explicit content but nothing too out there.
I would read something from this author again for a quick read I think!
While this wasnt as explicit as I would have wanted, this was sweet. It was believable and down to earth and I liked the two main characters very much. This book felt insanely relatable, which was really great.
After absolutely loving the Corey Effect and having to go back and read When We're Thirty, I had high hopes for Get A Room and unfortunately it missed the mark a bit. We meet Sarah, being kicked out of her home by her would be fiance on her birthday after he proposes and she says not yet, she rushes over to BFF Jess's, whose down on his luck brother Brian had just claimed the guest room. Sarah and Brian have had an enemies heavy friendship over the years but fighting over the guest room ends up changing the name of the game. Part enemies, part friends, part close proximity, sprinkled with a little fake dating to lovers and we should get quite the romcom. The banter between the two could have been cute, but it felt a little bit like childhood antics, having two characters bordering in quarter life crises felt like a little too much and I'm sorry the sister's attitude through the whole book. (Like part of me wants a book with the sister and someone who walks in and asks who did this to you, because honestly what was her deal?!) And there's SO many side characters (including pretty substantial reappearance by characters in her other two books) that it took I think too much focus off of what was happening in Brian and Sarah's story.
But then there's that moment. The one with the dress and they lock eyes and you just know it was meant to be and you're watching everything continuing to heat up for the rest of the book! All in all though, this was a cute romcom, plenty of butterflies and chemistry that will keep you turning the page to the end!
Thank you Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC in exchange for my review!
This was a first time read for me by this author and it won't be my last. This was such a cute and fun story! The dynamic between Sarah an Brian was just so adorable and fun. The chemistry between them was evident from the start. Brian has had a tough time of it lately, losing his girlfriend to another man and losing his job and apartment, so he decides to spend some time with his little sister Jess in Philadelphia and regroup. Only he won't be alone. Jess' best friend Sarah, not having had a great year herself, has the same idea. But there is only one extra bed, so they settle it the only way they can - they start playing pranks on each other, which were absolutely hilarious, to determine who can claim it. And somewhere along the way, their feelings started to shift and their relationship began to change. Brian even helps her out with a fake date when she had to face her ex. They each begin to see a side of each other they didn't expect, and their feelings start to evolve into more than just friendship.
Absolutely fun and heartwarming read! I was immediately endeared to both Sarah and Brian's characters. They were well-developed and had realistic qualities that made them relatable. A fun and cute read, but packed with emotion, it left me with a warm fuzzy feeling afterwards. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This is a fun romcom! After some problems in his personal life Brian ends up living with his sister in her two bedroom apartment. To complicate matters his sister’s best friend and ex roommate has to move back in after a breakup with her boyfriend. Sarah and Brian can barely tolerate each other never mind live in a small apartment together. Surprisingly the more time goes by and the more they fight over who will get the bedroom they begin to see each other in a different light. This is a great romcom with wonderful characters. Brian in particular is awesome. If you are looking for a romcom check this one out and also check out this author’s great backlist.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Get a Room is a lovely romance story that follows the story of Sarah, who got kicked out of her ex’s house after turning down his marriage proposal on her birthday’ and Brian who has lost both his job and his girlfriend. Both Sarah and Brian find themselves looking for a place to stay and both their answers are the same: Jess. Brian’s sister and Sarah’s best friend. Sarah claims the empty room should be hers as she’s been living in that room for years until she moved in with her ex, however Brian arrived there first. The story follows as their banter turns into friendship and then some more.
I saw the synopsis of this book and I knew I wanted to read it. Best friend’s brother trope is always so fun to read! I also loved how the book is called “Get a Room” and Sarah and Brian are literally fighting for the same room, like that’s just excellent. The book had excellent side characters as well. Lots of found family (excellent trope and excellent execution) and family dynamics. I also loved Sarah’s job and her relationship with the kids. It was so heartwarming to read how much she cares about her kids and her job in the charity.
The secondary characters were very fun to read. I loved reading about Brian’s newly found friend group. Jess was a very interesting character. I liked her until she started going insane after finding out about Sarah and Brian. I get that she had her reasons but forcing Sarah to choose between her and Brian was very cruel and all the words she said were gut wrenching as well. Tasha was such a fun character, I loved how she and Ethan were number one shippers. Maggie!!!! Probably my favorite character after Sarah and Brian. The sweetest boss and mother/aunt figure. I loved how she treated Sarah like she was family. She always supported Sarah and I just adored their relationship.
Sarah and Brian. Mixing the best friend’s brother trope and secret dating is always a big yes. I loved their dynamic so much. I loved how the moment they fell for each other was so clear. I loved the little changes in their attitude as they started to get to know each other better and fell for the other one. I loved how they practically become best friends after putting their differences aside. Also, I have to talk about Brian. Definition of a perfect man. Even when he and Sarah were in their “mutual respectable dislike’ era, he was so adorable and considerate and that sock thingy was so cute. He might be the definition of boyfriend material. I loved how he prioritized Sarah over everything and wanted to make sure she was happy. I loved how he used his breaks to bring her coffee just because she asked. I loved everything about them. I loved how Sarah pretended to mix Star Wars with Star Trek even though it was clear that she knew. I also adored how Brian proposed where they first kissed. I also loved how that was the place where they found each other again after Jess’ crisis. Also every single scene where Sarah and Brian made Tyler jealous was perfect.
If you’re looking for a book that has an amazing couple with lots of banter and tension, Get a Room is the right book for you.
This is a cute and fun read for those especially who are fans of my best friend’s brother. There is some banter and spice as well as some awkward fake dating moments. I also enjoyed the references to some pop culture (songs, romcoms).
I really liked this enemies to lovers, best friend's brother/sister's best friend romance! Brian was my favorite, I felt like he was the stronger character of the two when comparing both him and Jess. Jess seemed a little too immature to me at times, which I guess was also heightened during the third act conflict in the book. That trope isn't my favorite and it made the ending feel rushed. Overall, it was a cute story and I loved the main tropes, I just wish Jess was a stronger, more relatable FMC!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
When Sarah's boyfriend attempts a proposal that she doesn't readily accept, he dumps her and kicks her out of the house. She goes back to the apartment she'd shared with her best friend Jess only to find an interloper, Jess's irritating older brother, Brian. He's in her room, she wants it back. Something's gotta give, but will it be Sarah or Brian?
First, I want to say that the characters in this book are all pretty immature and selfish. Sarah had no right to think she could just move back in and take over the room again when Brian was already there. It frustrated me that she felt so entitled. She didn't even ask, she just assumed. Jess was an awful friend who let her own insecurities about something that happened in high school almost wreck a friendship. Not only that, but the two girls seemed fairly codependent on one another to an almost unhealthy degree.
Next, while I love a good enemies to lovers, they went straight from hating each other to being in love. There was no real build-up. I also hate a miscommunication trope, and this book relied heavily on that. Maybe if people had been honest and open, things would have been better. All it would have taken was one big conversation.
I rated this book 2.5 stars because even though it got better, it still wasn't all that great.
Enjoyable read, fun did have my giggling through out, I love every now and then a cosy read and this was one for me, read this in 1 sitting.
