Thank you NetGallery for the ARC!! This amazing book comes out tomorrow and I am lucky enough to rate it 3.75 ⭐️. I loved the enemies to lovers, best friend’s brother and fake dating tropes! I did take a few stars off as while Jess was an good friend to allow Sarah and her brother stay at her apartment, she did things that really should have been discussed more with Jess apologizing and not giving Sarah and Brian an ultimatum. Overall, it was a cute and easy read with a steady plot!
THIS BOOK WAS ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian isn't having the best of luck - his company downsized, his ex-girlfriend married someone else three days after they broke up, and he just spend the summer living with his parents - who were very HAPPY empty nesters.
His sister Jess offers him her guest room and he jumps at the chance to move to Philadelphia.
Sarah, Jess' best friend, just turned down her boyfriend's proposal. After he evicted her from his apartment she moved back into her old room in Jess' apartment. Only Brian was already there.
And Brian and Sarah are NOT friends. They aren't even friendly.
So begins this "enemies-to-lovers", "fake dating", "best-friend's brother" story. Brian and Sarah both started off a little annoying (they were both seriously immature about who would get the bedroom/ who would sleep on the couch) - however, as they started to bond over their situation and the chemistry started to fly - they both became more likeable - and I really started to cheer them on.
This is a standalone - however I would say that having looked at Casey Dembowski's profile on Goodreads, I noticed that her two pervious books have characters that are mentioned in this story - so not necessary to read those two in advance - however perhaps it would be fun? I know I will go back to read them.
This was a fun, charming read - the writing was solid, there was spice without it overpowering the story - I would say this is a lovely little romantic comedy. I would happy return to these characters in the future - and if Casey wanted to write Jess and Ryder's story / or Jace's story I would 100% be onboard for that.
Fun, perfect summer read. Grab it and just sink into a spot of romance.
Thank you Netgalley and Red Adept Publishing for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Overall this was a fun rom com read. I thought there was great growth for Brian, but I wasn't really a fan of Jess. This was a quick, easy read.
This is a nifty romance between Brian and Sarah that worked really well. It’s bright and breezy with lots going on, great banter between them, side characters that both add interest and keep the plot moving along. I didn’t love either Tyler or Jess but they weren’t completely one dimensional . Easy and fun!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC.
I loved this book so much. I didn't know what I was expecting but this was so amazing. Brian was trying to find a path in life but things weren't easy. He was a good man, funny, loyal, sweet, so good. Sarah was also in a tight situation in regards to her living arrangments but she made it work. They really didn't like each other until they were forced together and started to see each other in a diferent light, I loved that. I loved their love, they were there for each other. They choose each other over any other person and that's what you are supposed to fo when you love someone and know it's right. I really hated Jess when she made the ultimatium, she didn't have that right, they were both miserable because of her selfishness, that's not what you do if you are a good friend and she wasn't. They deserved a really apologize for what she put them through. But yeah, I loved them, they were fabulous and their love gave me hope
I am, to say the least, in love with this book. It has everything you'd want in a light hearted fluffy romance read, and I just...wow.
Get a Room: 4.5/5 stars
Brain's life is kind of falling apart. A early life crisis, one might say. He's got no job, no friends, his girlfriend kinda-fiancee ended up breaking up with him and marrying another guy and oh- he doesn't really have anywhere to stay. So when his blessing of a sister, Jess, offers him her guest room, he feels like maybe the world is shedding a bit of light on him. That is, until Jess' best friend Sarah comes knocking at the door, her hair a colourful mess and her life equally in shambles after a bad night with her now-ex boyfriend.
You'd think everything would be fine, Brian and Sarah are used to having roommates so they could work this out without killing each other- that is, until Sarah is desperate for a fake date to a gala, and Brian realises he truly loves being around her.
So what happens when the show starts getting a little too real?
I can't and I will not shut up about this book. So you guys know I looove fake dating tropes, so this book hit EVERY SPOT I NEEDED! The plot was absolutely mind-blowing, I mean it had everything a girl could want in her romcom! Lovable female lead who is way too relateable (I felt like I was being stalked.), a drop-dead GORGEOUS male lead who is actually the biggest green flag EVER, amazing friendships, sibling dynamics and a wonderful cast of side characters. Not to mention- the tension between Sarah and Brian as the book moved on had me squealing in my bed!!
I absolutely adored the way Dembowski built up the plot points so that everything falls into place. It made me HAPPY.
Like wow I was GASP GASP GASP with every new development! I could just imagine everything happening so clearly in my mind, I swear my family thought I was crazy with how I'd break down in giggles at random times when thinking about this book. I loved the way Brian warmed up so much to having Sarah around that whenever she was at work, he felt like he was missing her more and more! And I adored the way Sarah took everything by the neck- she may have been hesitant about anything with Brian but later on, she decided it wasn't worth running away from.
I loved the subplots- with the way Brian, Sarah and Jess became such an iconic group, and watching the way these characters grew out of their comfort zones in their own way? Felt like a proud mama.
Long story short, Casey Dembowski put together the most brilliant romcom I could have ever asked for and I am so blessed to have been able to receive this ARC of it! She's a fresh voice in a genre where repetition happens, and things get stale- so it was SO nice to have this new book to pick up and just be washed away by a unique storyteller!
Get a Room comes out July 18, and it's got everything you could want- romcom, fake dating, best friend's brother, and the perfect, fluffy vibes you could ask for!
Oh, did I mention it's a little cheeky too?
Brian Hawkins is not having a good year, having lost his job and his girlfriend. The last straw is when his loses his apartment and having spent too long with his parents, decides to move in with his sister. However, when his sister’s best friend, Sarah Webb turns up, he realises that things are going to get a whole lot worse. There is only one extra bed and there’s no way he’s sharing it with her. Sarah moves in with her best friend Jess, having broken up from her doctor-ex, only to find Jess’ brother Brian who happens to be grumpy and so very attractive. When she needs a last-minute date for a charity event that her ex is attending, Brian agrees but rivals soon turn into something more.
The dialogue between this couple was quite fun and entertaining as are the pranks between them to get the spare bedroom. Whilst there were elements of both characters that I enjoyed particularly seeing Brian grow in confidence, Sarah wasn’t quite as mature. This is a light-hearted read that will keep the reader entertained throughout.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and Casey Dembowski for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this! The tension in the build up to Brian and Sarah getting together, the spice, and the banter. It was all great. I loved all the pop culture references too!!
The only thing I would say as with all best friends brother books, it was predictable that Jess would find out and inevitably be angry but I still absolutely loved this book!
I had high hopes for this book, and I am sorry to say it did not reach them. None of the characters - not Sarah, Brian or Jessica - were likeable. They were all extremely immature, and just ridiculous. Sarah was the best of the worst; my biggest issue is that she seemed all over the place. Brian had a hard time making up his mind about anything; the amount of interviews we read about him going on seemed unnecessary, and he was mopey. Jessica is the one I had the most complaints with - she was petty, immature, kept secrets, and made ultimatums that she had no right to make, especially regarding two grown adults.
The storyline felt like it jumped around a lot at the beginning, and took too long in others. I think a large part of why I wasn't a fan of this book is that it was near impossible for me to tolerate any of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a fun read, I was so happy to have come cross with it. I love enemies to lovers stories, so there's no denying that I like it before reading it.
But The author really came through with the story, it was well built and organized, so there wasn't confusion at all. You knew what happened, where and who was who.
what I didn't like too much was the SARAH - BRIAN in each chapter, since it was written in third person I don't think it was necessary that every chapter had the character name, usually than means that character's POV.
Other than that, I enjoy the book so much; the characters were so easy to connect with. It was full of clichés but they were used in a amazing way that you wouldn't feel like rolling your eyes every 5 seconds.
I was feeling in such a reading block before with one because I read some really bad books and this keep me going ang distracted me, I simply adore the effect of this kinda book.
I had no expectations for this book but I was positively surprised when reading it!
In general, third person POV is not my favorite but it was surprisingly well written in this book. I assume it also helped that the chapters were still written from one of the main character's POV in the sense that the third person POV described the events from each main character's POV. And I just realized how weird the previous sentence sounds but you get what I mean 😂
I loved how the story was built up. I would have preferred for the progression of Sarah and Brian's relationship to be better described in the beginning, especially how the feelings for each of them changed.
I am not a big fan of third-act drama that stems from insecurities. Even though this book did not have it, I still felt a bit annoyed about the third-act drama since they let outsiders' opinions affect their reltionship. Also, the end felt a bit rushed with how the HEA happened and the book ended suddenly afterward.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised about this book!
NetGalley ARC review
Jess has a two-bedroom apartment, her brother Brian needs a place to stay, and her best friend Sarah needs a place also.
This has to work out for all three of them. Sarah and Jess have been friends forever. Brian and Sarah don’t get along very well. Jess tells them they can both stay, and they will just have to get along. Jess had told Brian a long time ago dating any of her friends is off limits.
Sarah has a charity event to go to and her ex-boyfriend is going to be at this event, so she does not want to show up alone. So, she asks Brian to go as her fake date. This is the start of sparks flying between Sarah and Brian but they both know nothing can happen.
I loved the connection between Sarah and Brian. I could see where things were leading, and it was a fun story to read.
Thank you NetGalley, Casey Dembowski and Red Adept Publishing LLC for the copy of Get a Room. This is my personal review.
I absolutely loved this book; I literally finished it within 2/3 days.
This was the first book I've read by this author, but if her other books are just as good as this one, I want to read them all. Most of my favourite tropes are enemies-to-lovers and best friend's brother, where he falls first, and this book is one of the best representations of it.
I absolutely loved the development of Sarah's and Brian's relationship; it was a true representation of how it could happen in real life—the banter between them and seeing how their relationship developed from enemies to friends to lovers.
Both characters were really well written, and the plot itself was very realistic, which for me is a plus because I love books whom I can identify with—loved how it portrays a realistic perspective of working with kids in Sarah's case and how hard it is to find a job that relates to you and your abilities in Brian's case. It was very empowering to see how Sarah dealt with her ex-boyfriend Tyler's actions; sure, he might have felt bad because she rejected him, but that does not mean you can humiliate someone you care about. Specifically, in the first chapter, you can see how his toxic masculinity shows when he says those things to Sarah, I felt like he was an idiot, but unfortunately, that happens in real life.
I also really enjoyed how Brian wanted to create a friend group for himself, it was really important for his character development. And I really appreciated how supportive he was towards Sarah's personal and professional life, in a way he really did open Sarah's eyes to the reality of the situation.
Although I didn't really like the character Jess. I felt that not only was she selfish but also a hypocrite. She can keep secrets from her brother and best friend about her romantic life, but when they do it, not only because they themselves don't exactly know what they are, if they are together or not, but also because she put pressure on them since they started to be friends, she never gave them the choice, so obviously they wanted to keep it a secret; because they didn't want to hurt her.
Also, if my relationship with my brother was as good as the relationship between Jess and Brian, I would be happy to have my best friend date him, I would gain a sister, but she only cared about her in those moments, not her own brother or her best friend. To be completely honest I think I disliked Jess more than I did Tyler.
The ending felt too rushed, I was hoping for a more detailed of how they were in their present lives, for example how Brian was doing at his new job, how Sarah was dealing with the promotion and with the mentor program, if Jess moved with her boyfriend, how the 3 of them are dealing with this new chapter in their lives,
With that being said, I truly enjoyed reading this book, and thank you so much for allowing me to read it.
Brian and Sarah are so cute and I loved seeing them fall in love. All the little domestic moments between them were adorable. I kind of wished we saw more of the relationship with Jess, it felt like we were told they were best friends but Jess was keeping too many secrets. The ending of the book was so good though.
I received an arc through netgalley.
I absolutely loved this book. It had all my favorite tropes but was also so easy to read. I expected there to be more hate banter from Brian and Sarah but their story flowed so easily. This book was so easy and fun to read. The slow burn was slow but it was definitely worth it. The way she stood up for herself at the end made me so happy! I just love this book
I had a fun time reading this book and it has both the tropes of enemies to lovers and best friends brother. I liked the premise of the two main characters fighting over the bedroom and was sad that those antics ended fairly quickly. I did enjoy watching their relationship develop but feel like most of their problems arose from sneaking around behind their best friend/sister's back.
Get a Room was a spicy cute romantic comedy. I loved the story and it held my attention well. I adore enemies to lovers so much!
I was instantly pulled into Get a Room when I started reading - it was an easy, breezy read! There were a lot of different tropes represented, which kept things both interesting and a little messy. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Sarah and Brian's journey to one another and will definitely check out Dembowski's next book!
3.5 stars for sure
This was a cute and spicy romcom. I don’t love third person so I definitely think I would have loved it even more if it were in a diff POV. But it held my attention and it was a very easy read🥰
I love the enemies to lovers trope and this one was very well done 🙌🏻
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this adorable book
Loved this! Best friends brother and One bed trope with a twist! Loved Sarah and Brian. And a sucker for a Clark Kent/Han Solo cosplay haha
