Let me preface this by saying that the idea behind this book is pretty fantastic.

Here's where my brain just went haywire - the amount of tropes in this book really had my mind overstimulated more than I can say. Maybe this story is one for a person that can follow different ideas at the same time, but to say that my brain was misfiring because of all of the thoughts is an understatement.

If you're okay with multiple tropes at a time, love rom-com, and want something really cutesy then this story may just be for you.

This was a cute fun summer read.

It had a lot of good tropes in it.
🌸best friend’s brother
🌸one bed
🌸fake dating
🌸enemies to lovers
🌸forced proximity
🌸one bed

The characters were great and had some good banter. I wasn’t a fan of Jess though.
The pace felt a little off for me. But overall it was a good book.

Thank you, Netgalley for the chance to review this ARC.
Such a sweet rom-com that did not exactly turn out like how I expected, but that it actually not a bad thing! This story starts out like a enemies-to-friends then friend-to-lovers story along with a one-bed trope, but it had so many more layers and was so much more. It came with the message of finding your own path as well as fighting for the one you love, which finished with a very sweet, satisfying ending!
We start off with Sarah getting kicked out of her boyfriend's house after having rejected his wedding proposal. She shows up to her best friend's house while her best friend's brother, aka archnemesis Brian, is there as well after having left his parents' house because he couldn't deal with living with them anymore. He too has been down on his luck. A year ago, his girlfriend dumped him and married someone else the very next day from a marriage pact, adding insult to injury in his public humiliation. So when he finds out he has to compete with Sarah, who he despises, for the bedroom, it was just too much. They fight, they get on each other's nerves, but they also try to cohabitate.
This kind of started out to be a 3 or 4 star review book because I did expect more banter and tension. The story takes a somewhat predictable turn when about less than halfway, Jess suggests that Sarah takes Brian to be her fake date boyfriend to the charity gala for her job after no such luck of finding a guy who is capable of making her ex-boyfriend jealous after making it known publicly that he is taking a model for his date. They predictably fall in love and (almost) give in to the tension until his sister comes back home, and they stop.
Now what redeemed this book for me a five star is that this is not even close to the end of the story and it does take a somewhat unpredictable turn as Sarah and Brian's relationship turns into something real and genuine, even though they both know they wont' be together. The chemistry they have really starts to take off, and I keep turning the page wondering where else this will go. They end up starting their relationship in secret, knowing that it would be messy if Jess were to find out since Jess had a hard rule for Sarah not to date her brother, and the reason get revealed later on.
There's a lot going on here, more than just simply not being able to date Brian just because he's Jess's brother. For one, Brian is still getting his life together after looking frantically for a job. Sarah knows it can't last, even though Brian is little by little loving his new life in Philly with is little part-time job. Even he's loving his new life in Philly, (his coworkers and friends are just the best), and is wrestling between what is heart wants and career aspects. On top of that, Sarah is struggling to grapple with Jess moving off to California to be with her long distance boyfriend. But then...Brian's sister finds out, and conflict ensues...leaving the two of them to have to make a choice.
Honestly, this book had me going through an emotional roller coaster, and I enjoyed how all the characters fit and meshed together. Outstanding book that leaves me smiling long after I'm finished.

Get a Room by Casey Dembowski is a light easy romantic comedy filled with several tropes including:

🩷 Enemies to Lovers
🩵 Best Friends Brother
💜 Only One Bed
💚 Fake Dating
❤️ Close Proximity

Within minutes of starting to read this book, you can predict the basic premise of the story. I suppose the surety of a happily ever after is what I like about the romance genre. I tend to rate books based on how they make me feel and how engaged I was when reading the book. I enjoyed reading Get a Room, however, it does not stand out to me. I have rated this book 3/5.
Thank you to NetGallery and the Publisher for the ARC of this book.

My first time reading Dembowski’s work and I’m very pleased.

Get a Room by Casey Dembowski is the perfect fake dating rom-com.
The writing style was wonderfully done in a way that had me fully immersed in the story and connecting with the characters.
Sarah and Brian are witty and fun.
This is one of those books that will leave a perma-smile on your face. It's that stinkin' adorable. I knew the moment that I read the synopsis for this story that it was one that I had to read.

I really enjoy this book! I don’t know if it’s something I’d be able to honestly recommends my students considering a teacher younger grade, but I do think that it is a very fun read. I really loved the sharing a room trope and think it’s a fun book to read.

It may be Sarah's birthday, but it isn't going as planned. Rejecting her boyfriend's proposal and being kicked out of his home wasn't on her wish list! Thankfully she knows she has a safe place to land in her long term best friend Jess, whose apartment she shared until recently.

Presuming she would simply move back into her old room, she's shocked to find its been promised to Jess' brother Brian. Made redundant and taking time to regroup, he's moved to Philadelphia for a fresh start and has no intentions of sharing his space. What ensues is a prank war to determine who can have the bedroom, and who will be left with the couch.

But when Sarah discovers that her ex is planning to upstage her at her own work event, she knows she needs to up the ante. Desperate to 'win' the break up, she and Jess hatch a plan... she'll bring Brian along as her fake boyfriend. Jess has always imposed a strict rule in regards to Brian and dating her friends, but she's willing to bend it for this one event. Will one night of faking it change everything for Sarah and Brian? Or will their pranks continue until one of them is forced to leave?

Thank you to @casey_dembowski @xpressotours & @netgalley for providing me with this ARC. Look out for pub day on July 18th 🥳

I had so much fun reading this story. Sarah is such a quirky character, and I loved that she changed her hair colour so regularly. I tend to do the same after a big life change! Brian was a great guy (love a hot nerdy type) and he was the perfect compliment to Sarah and Jess' friendship. The banter and pranks were brilliant and left me giggling at their antics. I'm always a fan of a well written enemies to lovers, fake dating romance and this was SO enjoyable. If you love these too, definitely give this book a read!

This book is amazing! I loved it. Sarah and Brian are such interesting characters. A beautiful enemies to lovers I think everyone will love!

We first meet Sarah after she has been through a messy breakup with a surgeon and doctors everyone love. She is kicked out from where she was living and decides to go back and live with her best-friend, Jess. The problem is, Jess already gave Sarah’s old room to her brother Brian. Brain is jobless and trying to do everything not to end up back in his home town. After he went through a breakup that changed him forever, he has struggled to understand himself. Of course Sarah and Brian hate each other, disliking the fact they have to be so close. Jess suggests Sarah get Brian help make her ex jealous by having a Fake relationship.

I really enjoy this book. It did take a bit longer for me to read than it would have due to my life being everywhere rn. But I think it’s quite a cute romance. I wish we did get to see Sarah and her Mums relationship a bit more.

It’s a HEA and spicy, and a great read!!!

Thank you NetGalley for this amazing Read

This book was cute. Sarah and her best friends brother hate each other, but her BFF Jess sets them up to fake date to make Sarah’s ex jealous.
The problem? They fall in love but Jess can’t know because she’s dead set against it.

Short story- I hated Jess. She led to her best friend, and then got mad her best friend was lying to her? It wasn’t fair. She wasn’t a good friend. And she was also just forgiven for being an awful friend with basically no apology.

The third act breakup and reunion felt rushed and just made me dislike Jess more. She’s not a girls girl.

In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting Get a Room to hit me as hard as it did. As Sarah and Brian’s story unfolded, not only was I rooting for their relationship, but I was rooting for them as individuals.

At one point in their journey to happiness I found myself tearing up, something that is not an everyday occurrence for me, as I was hit with unexpected emotions for these fictional characters.

Fans of fake-dating, best friend’s sibling tropes should absolutely give this story a try.

I can’t wait to read other titles by Casey Dembowski after finishing Get a Room.

Get a Room is a delightful rom-com that will leave you smiling from beginning to end. The story follows Brian Hawkins, who is trying to get his life back on track after a series of unfortunate events. He seeks solace in his sister's apartment, only to find himself sharing the space with Sarah Webb, his sister's best friend and the bane of his existence.

Sarah is vibrant, outgoing, and impossible to ignore. Despite their initial clashes, Brian finds himself drawn to her undeniable charm and infectious energy. As they navigate their living arrangements and engage in playful pranks, their animosity slowly transforms into something more. Sparks fly, and a deep connection begins to develop between them.

The chemistry between Sarah and Brian is palpable, and their witty banter and playful interactions make for a delightful read. As they grow closer, both characters reveal vulnerabilities and secrets that deepen their bond. Their journey is filled with humour, heart, and unexpected twists that keep you eagerly turning the pages.

Get a Room is a feel-good rom-com that explores themes of friendship, love, and taking chances. The writing is engaging and filled with warmth, making it easy to get lost in the story. The vibrant characters and their amusing antics will leave you laughing and rooting for their happily ever after.

If you're looking for a light-hearted and charming read that will put a smile on your face, Get a Room is the perfect choice. It's a delightful escape into the world of unexpected romance and the power of letting go of inhibitions.

Brian has had the worst year. Sarah has just been kicked out of her boyfriend's house. Her best friend takes her in, but she only has one bed available, and her brother, Brian, needs it too. And Sarah is the bane of his existence... As the war between them sets, things start to shift.
This is a best friends brother, forbidden, enemies to lovers with a sprinkle of fake dating romance. It's told in dual POV (Sarah and Brian), both in 3rd person, and I felt there was no real distinction between the characters' voices (I even was confused at times between Sarah and her best friend). I would've liked to see the characters more in depth, with more development. I also would've liked more tension between the two MCs, I couldn't feel any chemistry. It was there in the beginning, but they go soft on each other very quickly, and I still felt the story moved too slow. Give me more wagers, more bets, more bickering,  more banter. And Jess waaaay overreacted, it felt very immature of her. I was not a big fan of her character in the entire story, and she was kind of hypocritical. Overall, I think it needed work, but it was still a quick and cute read, filled to the brim with amazing movie references, and the first third was really good.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Get A Room is a story about two people trying to claim the spare bedroom in a two bed apartment. Sarah is basically homeless after being kicked out by her ex-boyfriend who had hoped to become her fiancee, and flees to her best friend Jess. Jess’ brother Brian was just crashing there after losing his job and needing a fresh start. He has taken the spare bedroom, what doesn’t go well with Sarah, who counted on that room as her temporary place. What follows is Sarah (with pink hair) throwing all of Brians stuff out and into the living room and claiming the bedroom by scattering bras and panties. Quite immature but she steps it up: she tries taking pictures of herself and Brian in an compromising position and tries to blackmail R2-D2-boxers wearing Brian with “photos” of their supposed wilde night in order to secure the bedroom for good. It feels more like a book about teenagers than actually grown-ups. The plot was a bit too juvenile for my taste but I’m sure there will be enough people who will like this book.
I received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and I am grateful for that. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Get A Room is an easy summer read featuring interesting characters and a fun plot. Brian has moved to Philadelphia after losing his job to get a fresh start; thankfully, he can stay with his sister, Jess, since she has a spare room. Sarah got proposed to and kicked out of her boyfriend's house all in the space of an evening, but it's ok; she’s going to crash with her best friend, Jess.

You see where this is going, right? Brian and Sarah can’t stand each other; ever since they met in college, they’ve been at each other throats, slinging petty comments and insults until they separated. Except now they're stuck in close quarters, which will only make things worse.

I enjoyed Brian and Sarah's relationship; it was fun and steamy, if a bit quick for my taste. What I didn’t like was Jess. Everything about her, but especially her reaction to Brian and Sarah being together and her feeble attempt at grovelling. I also liked Brian’s friends and wish we’d seen more of them, especially with Sarah hanging with them too. But overall, Get A Room was sweet and easy to read.

3.5 Stars

Brian and Sarah are both down on their luck after he loses his job (amongst other life changing curveballs), and she’s proposed to out of the blue and says no. With their plans suddenly changing, they both take refuge with Jess, Sarah’s best friend and Brian’s little sister. There are only two problems here: she only has one guest room, and Sarah and Brian don’t get along.

On paper, this book has everything I’m looking for: best friends brother, a thoughtful love interest, suspense from hiding their romance, sexual tension. In actuality, this book didn’t quite do it for me and I’m not sure why. The beginning dragged a bit for me and it didn’t really pick up until the 50% mark. I also expected there to be a bit more mischief in their relationship as the book description says they “pull pranks and place wagers over who can lay claim to the bed”. I’m not saying that’s not true but it wasn’t what I was expecting and I would be liked to see more of that plot point.

That being said, the middle section was really fun and I did enjoy the characters. I also liked the rationale behind why Jess didn’t want her best friend and her brother to date. It’s important to me in books that I read that the reasoning for something happening is valuable, and/or furthers the story/character relationships and this did just that.

If you’re looking for a cute, best friend’s brother/fake dating/“enemies” to lovers romance, you might like this! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Best friend's brother, only one bed, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, dual POV. This book had all of my favorite ingredients in a story.

I don't LOVE the third act plot point. I feel like I cannot fault it because it happens in 90% of romcoms, but I really appreciate when it doesn't.

I received this ARC thanks to Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Cute romance story that is predictable but very enjoyable.

The characters are multidimensional with individual side stories that make it interesting. I had no problem getting through this book in two days, so bring some extra reading material if you are planning to bring Get a Room on vacation.

Get a Room- Casey Dembowski ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sarah is going through the worst time of her life when she is left without a place to live after rejecting her boyfriend's engagement. Brian isn't in a better place in his life either. He moves to Philadelphia to refresh his head after a hard breakup and the problem with discovering a further career path. The fact that he will have to share an apartment not only with his sister but also with her best friend does not make things any easier for him.

I have a bit of a hard time giving this book an unambiguous rating because it had a lot of pros and cons for me. Starting with the pros: I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked the characters, and it was fun to move to the place depicted in the book. However, I think that the book would be better for me if it was a YA book because my main downside was the dialogues, in which I had the impression that teenagers were talking to each other, not adults. In addition, I know that they fell in love because that's how it was written, but I didn't quite feel it, and I didn't catch the moment when it started. And I don't even want to start the subject of Jess. Theoretically, she should be a likeable character, but she really got on my nerves. She was not only selfish but also a hypocrite, and honestly, I wouldn't want a friend like that.

However, despite these few shortcomings in the overall summary, I recommend reading this book! ♥️ Plus, the ending is wonderful⭐️. And I know that I will definitely read other books by this author.

Thank you to netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion!

In all honesty this was an okay book. It was hard to follow the first half of the story since events switched quickly with a lack of transition to the new setting. I also had a hard time remembering who was the main character and who was the sister. It had a cute ending but seemed like the safe choice.
