ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.
This collection of poems was short, gruesome, and to the point! I really enjoyed the narration, it felt very true to the poems. If you’re into horror and creepy poetry, check this quick read out!
These poems include beautiful language and clever turns of phrase, but the ideas expressed are mostly unimpressive.
Honestly this was just…fine? Some of the poems were really good and some were not good but most were simply boring. It’s possible this was because I struggle with listening to audiobooks of poetry instead of reading them with my eyes (with every other genre it’s the reverse), so I’m abstaining from giving a star rating on goodreads for that reason.
It's hard to rate and review poetry since it is based on how you feel. I will say the writing was amazing. The poem were deep and made you think. Definitely worth reading.
I feel like this book works as an audiobook in that it gives off an almost self-help way of conveying it all to mean something especially when the book is in the 2nd person. The narrator of the audiobook does a good job of bringing life to the words.
That being said, I found the book mostly fleeting and abstract in a way that I felt lacked genuine profound moments. There is a "tug of war between illusion and delusion" but where is the reality, where is the grounding for this book as a whole? With this being the writer's first book, I have high hopes for them in their search!
Ah! I am so thankful to S.V. Segal, Netgalley, and Greenleaf Audiobooks for granting me advanced audiobook access to this ABSOLUTE gem of a poetry collection. (Un)Tethered details narratives on queerness and acceptance, and also just getting through life unharmed and loved.
(Un)Tethered hits shelves on June 20, 2023 and I can't wait.

Thank you NetGalley and Greenleaf Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
The writing was beautiful, but they didn't seem to have any true meaning. Pretty on the outside, empty on the inside. No general theme.
