Super cute and fun way to learn math and snow! My 4 year old loves math and this was perfect for him! He also read parts to me, the illustrations are wonderful and made the book very enjoyable!

This was a cute and fun read with my 3 year old. We loved getting immersed in the snowy theme. She wanted to read it over and over!

My math loving kid loves this book! Such a simple and visual way to form an understanding of Exponents and Exponential growth. I love the illustrations as well and the explanation at the end of the story is so helpful. We counted snowflakes. Read the book. Then the explanation. Then read the story again. We thoroughly enjoyed this and it explained the topic so well.

This beautifully illustrated book uses a snowfall to illustrate the concept of exponential growth. The book’s rhyming text is simple, but the creative use of snow to show a complex mathematical concept will catch the attention of readers as they build their understanding of exponents.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of the book to read and review.

A fun book about math! Bring it to class and work with your students to figure out what comes next. Fun reading!

If your child is ready to learn about exponential growth, this gorgeous picture book is here to help. Watch the snowflakes pile up while discovering how two can quickly become 16, 384. (You are welcome to count them. Artist Bryony Clarkson has made sure they are ALL THERE in painstakingly gorgeous detail.) And, this is a lovely book, even for those like me who just want to ignore the math and admire the beautiful illustrations.

This delightful children's picture book is filled with enticing illustrations that gently and repetitively introduce kids to the mathematical concept of exponential growth. For kids who already understand the concept, this may be too elementary, but for kids who've not yet been exposed, this is a fun and sneakily informative way to get the idea across.

For a family who lives in a notoriously snowy part of the country (Buffalo), the example of snowfall was very impactful. We were especially grateful to note that the illustrations guarantee the precise number of snowflakes described on each page. There's no way to count them, but the growing effect is impressive, as was the result of the Christmas blizzard we had last year. Bringing it all together was satisfying.

Using the compounding effects of snow flakes falling and creating an abundance of drift, science writer, Bob Raczky, and illustrator, Byrony Clarkson, have created a beautiful teaching tool for young math students on the mechanics of exponential growth in their collaborative book, “The Power of Snow.” Starting with 2 to the first power, children will learn how to read exponents, as well as how to multiply them to reach the correct mathematical product. This is a well-explained little book on an an often easily misunderstood mathematical concept that can be used by anyone needing to brush-up on the topic.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Bob Raczky and Illustrator Byrony Clarkson, and Publisher Millbrook Press an imprint of Lerner Publishing Group, LLC. for this advanced reader’s copy for review.

This would be good to have at a home library or a book for kids to read for fun in the classroom. It was very enjoyable.

The illustrations were cute and a fun wintery read while also learning about math. I feel like this is geared toward a bit of older kids but the text is simple. I do like how the exponents are explained and not made overly complicated.

This book is a great tool for teacher teaching the power of exponents. But was not at all what I was thinking it was when I looked at reading it. It was under poetry and not sure about it being poetry.

A fun way to explain exponents using the number 2 and snowflakes. Teaches the young the match concept of exponents in a poetic way. The process is explained by the illustration and showing “the work” to get to the answer. Nice illustrations and simple text. While in the beginning it’s easy to count the snowflakes, but as the number grows very large, they become very small and overlap. The author has included an explanation of exponents at the end of the book that explains the concept further.

What a clever book!
As an educator, I could see myself using this book to engage students in an introduction of exponents and exponential form. I appreciated that there was minimal text because it lends itself to focusing on the math concept.

Thank you NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for allowing me early access to the ARC ebook edition of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Power of Snow by Bob Raczka is a picture book that will introduce young children to exponents/powers. I always appreciate picture books that teach math concepts because I understand how hard it is to mentally visualize what two to the fifth power (or other exponents) actually looks like. The Power of Snow allows readers to actually see some of these concepts in action in a fun and realistic way...a snowstorm. The snow starts out small with just a couple of flakes, but it quickly grows to blizzard-like conditions. In addition to the illustrations, the text explaining the exponents is composed of simple rhymes. On the page opposite of each rhyme, exponents are written out in standard form. I think the multiple methods (illustrations, exponent form, and standard form) being presented together will help children link the concepts more efficiently. Additionally, the author has included an explanation of exponents at the end of the book that teachers and parents can use to help explain the concept further.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for the opportunity to review an eARC of The Power of SNow by Bob Raczka.

Wonderfully drawn children's book. Perfect for those long nights of Winter. As each page turns your child will see the winter animals while learning many exponent rules in math. Cute and straightforward.

What a great way to teach students about exponents especially with winter right around the corner! This book is simply written but delivers a visual and meaningful math lesson with beautiful illustrations! I can’t wait to purchase it for our school library and recommend to our teachers!

The illustrations are beautiful. I really enjoyed seeing all the snowflakes and being in the winter season with this story. I also liked the different animals on each page. However, this felt like a math test with a bunch of gorgeous images. It wasn’t very engaging or compelling. It felt like homework. I’m not sure if kids would be interested in actually doing the math problems unless they were really into math. There isn’t really a story, just a bunch of math problems. It was okay. The illustrations stand out the most in this book.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
