This is a fun and beautifully illustrated book to teach kids about exponents. The snow keeps multiplying and each page shows the math of how many more snowflakes there are. The illustrator said at the end how he got the right number of snowflakes on each spread but they always looked like far fewer snowflakes than it was supposed to be to me. He must have counted very tiny dots even with the small numbers, which may make it confusing for kids. End notes explain exponents in greater detail. The book is fun, the art is wonderful, and it will make a good addition (no pun intended) to a math library.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book via NetGalley.
If I was a math teacher, particularly of lower grades, I would absolutely love to incorporate this into a lesson about exponents, especially during the winter time. I absolutely loved how the snow grew and grew and even though the multiplication and exponent concepts were way above my four year old's head he still loved the story and illustrations. Highly recommend for elementary math teachers and those with kids who are a bit older. A fun wintery read!
This is a little advanced for a young kid because of all the math but for someone with an other kid, this is a great way to work on math skills!
Thank you @netgalley for the eARC!
Math teachers are always looking for good books for their classrooms and I'm going to recommend this to everyone I see. I love how it's a counting book but by exponents. The illustrations were wonderful and the ending was really sweet. Thank you #netgalley for giving me a copy of #thepowerofsnow.
The illustrations in "the Power of Snow" are simply magical. I can already see this being a perfect read during blizzard days in February :). The text is geared toward primary grades, and the story is also introducing kids to exponents, which don't exactly match with the reading level of the text... yet, it will be perfect for little ones who love to learn math concepts above their grade level and challenge themselves to know more.
