I am so glad that I was given this book to review as an arc on Netgalley. There have been many different books that have been about Auschwitz and that time period. You are right in the thick of things with the main character. After she finds out that she can no longer be published bc she is Jewish, this writer is picked up with friends and taken to a camp. A camp of many. You move through the time she gets there, what she encounters in the years of camp, and how her life is when she is out of camp. If you like this type of historical fiction, then this book is for you.
I really enjoyed "The Storyteller of Auschwitz". Etty was such a likeable character, as were the other minor characters. I loved Solly in particular. I felt like it was very slow to get started but then took off. It was one of those books that shows the resilience of people and how important stories are.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
The cover caught my attention the story captured my heart. I have read many stories of the holocaust and this one struck me so deeply. I felt heartsick at the pain and suffering that Etty and Danielle went through while at Auschwitz. I am so grateful for writers that keep these stories alive for if we forget we are doomed to repeat. Thank you for writing such an incredible story. It’s a five plus star read for me!
This is a book I won’t soon forget. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking. I laughed in some parts and cried in others. My heart broke and then was glued back together. Highly recommend but be prepared to go through the emotional gambit.
The Storyteller of Auschwitz by Siobhan Curham is a haunting and powerful historical fiction novel that explores the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of preserving stories in the face of unimaginable cruelty. Set in Auschwitz during World War II, the story follows Etty Weil, a Jewish author, who forms a bond with a young girl named Danielle. Etty becomes a source of comfort and strength for Danielle and other women in their shared struggle.
Curham's writing is poignant and evocative, capturing the harrowing realities of life in the concentration camp while also highlighting the power of hope and storytelling. The characters are deeply human and their relationships are beautifully portrayed.
The Storyteller of Auschwitz is a heart-breaking and inspiring tale of survival, friendship, and the indomitable spirit of storytelling. It serves as a reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust and the importance of remembering and honouring the stories of those who lived through it. This book is a powerful testament to the resilience and courage of individuals in the darkest of times.
Sad at times but what do you expect when the book is about Auschwitz! There wasn't anything I disliked about this book. the writing style and format was good and engaged me the whole way along, the storyline was absolutely riveting and thought provoking. I couldn't put it down and I can't stop thinking about it. I will never stop recommending this book.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Count me in for any book dealing with the Holocaust and WW2. I love reading variations of the story because the people who were strong enough to endure, fight, and overcome inspire me. The Storyteller of Auschwitz was a unique viewpoint with the main character being a writer who told stories in order to keep strongminded to survive the extreme torture and conditions. There are two main plots: the main character, "Etty" and Tomasz and the relationship with her and Danielle. I enjoyed the love story between "Etty" and Tomasz. The relationship between Etty and Danielle was beautiful. This story is definitely a tear jerker. Highly recommend for anyone who likes historical fiction set in the WW2 timeframe!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for a digital ARC.
A heartbreaking fictional story of what happened to Jewish women sent to concentration camps. Hard to read but well worth the time. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
