I loved this book! I’m a sucker for cults and the investigators that have to find out what has happened, what’s fact and what’s fiction. This book could be read as a stand alone, however, the backstory from book 1 is very relevant so I recommend reading this after book 1. I love Eve as a multifaceted protagonist and the way she has to confront her past to make for a better future for this community. The supporting team are also great and work together well. I appreciate the mystery and who or what was the cause of babies disappearing but I also enjoyed the way the characters interacted and that the bad guys have degrees of grey and not just totally evil, (although I’m not convinced that some of the players aren’t).
I also liked the character growth with Eve as she comes to terms with the indoctrination of her youth and makes choices for herself and comes into her own.
I highly recommend to fans of Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh, if you’re a fan of theirs then you will also love Ms Roberts writing.
5/5 stars! I can’t wait for the next book. Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

Thrillers/murder mysteries written by former or serving law enforcement just hit different. Even though I'm in the UK and know absolutely nothing about US law enforcement, even I can feel the reality of investigating the mire that is FLDS and religious fundamentalism.

Eve is still recuperating from the beating she received from her "step-brothers", all for having the temerity of being female, a cop and a non cult member, having been rescued from its clutches by her mother.

With her team she is now part of the mission to investigate all felonies in the vicinity of the cults HQ in Hilldale, Utah. Now she faces anonymous calls of a baby crying - probably the handiwork of her step-brothers. But then she gets a late-night call from a woman stating her new born baby has been taken.

Even with the "Prophet" behind bars, his zealot like male followers continue to follow his edicts, treating their wives and children as commodities and slaves - child endangerment in so many cruel and evil ways is the norm. Soon Eve and the team learn that this is not the only missing baby and there seems to be a slew of missing women too.

Corruption, religious fundamentalism and misogyny are rife in Hilldale (or lets just call it Helldale). Eve and her small team of 5 have a lot of put up with and are stretched thin when they essentially they end up with two parallel investigations to solve. Personally Eve and Clyde are keeping the new romantic nature of the their relationship quiet may also put a strain on their professional one.

The racist, bigoted and misogynist locals don't quite know how to react to a former cult member with her crew including a Black, a Mexican, and Indigenous and Mormon Detectives. The God Squad certainly get the runaround from our wily investigators.

Quick pacing and a tight storyline kept me on the hook. The eclectic team all had strengths and weaknesses and all have a part to play in the story. I must admit I really wanted a shower every time Eve had to interact with Aaron - that man gives me the heebiejeebies!

I'm now off to read book one and wait patiently for book 3!

Although a difficult subject to read about, this story was amazing. Detective Eve Bennet is the lead character, but the continuing cast of characters, her team, have become her family. Eve was once an unwilling member of the cult in Hilldale, but was rescued by her mother, Maggie. Now she is the lead detective on the case of a missing baby. The baby was considered a child of sin and was taken from the mother. Eve is determined to find the missing baby and her investigation leads her and her team to other babies who have gone missing. The case turns deadly when her stepbrother is murdered to keep from talking to her. Eve trusts no one but her team, not the county attorney, the sheriff or the police chief. She was given the ultimate authority to care for the women and children in Hilldale, and knows that the leaders of the cult will not stop, short of killing her, to protect their way of life. Absolutely a book that I couldn’t put down until the very exciting end! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Man I love me some Eve Bennett! I adore a strong kick-ass woman who is in charge and takes no shit and gets the job done! You get all of that and more in Det. Eve Bennett! I can't wait for the next book in this series. I can't wait to see who Det. Bennett grows in her relationship w/her mother and her lover. And I can't wait for her to take on and take down that cult she was raised in. I can not wait to see her step-brother truly get his! Holly S. Roberts is now on my always-read list!

What an emotional book. I was very engaged, but I had to stop a few times to process and reflect. The community she created was disturbing, but I had to see how it would end. The book is so emotional because the way it is written is very believable. Detective Eve Bennett is easy to connect to and you want to see her persevere. The plot starts with the investigation of a missing newborn and her mother, but so much more is happening than that. I definitely did not expect how everything unfolded– read it to see who is behind everything. I recommend you read this book, especially if you like a good mystery. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story takes place in a small town FLDS community that is known for having a questionable law enforcement. Detective Eve Bennet and her taskforce go there to investigate a call that she received in the early morning hours that there was a baby missing. It doesn't take long before they learn that there is also a missing woman.

The pros of the story are the strong dynamics between the task force members and their ability deeper understanding how the community operates due to Eve having been raised there. The cons are the community's treatment of children and women, and the treatment of Eve by her stepbrothers.

I had some doubt about the first in this series as it reminded me of another series. This one is working and it's a gripping and twisty story, very dark because it cose to the core of power play and manipulation that exists even if we can hardly see it in everyday life.
Eve is growing on me and this gripping story is solid, tightly knitted and well plotted.
I can't wait to read another one
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Lost Little Angels by Holly S. Roberts is an absolutely gripping and unputdownable crime thriller that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. In this second installment of the Detective Eve Bennet series, Roberts delivers a fascinating setting, intriguing characters, and a storyline that will keep readers hooked from start to finish. The book tackles harsh themes such as cults and their impact on individuals, and the author expertly balances tension, shocks, and twists throughout the narrative. While it can be read as a standalone, readers may find a deeper appreciation by starting with the first book in the series, as it directly deals with the fallout from previous events and provides a more immersive experience.

However, it's important to note that some readers may find the content of Lost Little Angels difficult and disturbing, as it explores the dark practices within cults and contains intense and graphic scenes. Despite this, Roberts' skillful storytelling and attention to detail make the book a must-read for fans of police procedurals and crime thrillers. With its fast-paced and electric pacing, well-developed characters, and a shocking twist that will leave readers wanting more, Lost Little Angels is a captivating and thought-provoking novel that strikes the perfect balance between suspense and compelling storytelling.

This is the second book in the Detective Eve Bennett series and yet again another eye opener into the horrors of belonging to a cult and the effect it has on people . As soon as I started this book I was immediately hooked on the story . Even though this is a work of fiction there are sadly people who get caught up in this vile and horrific life. Detective Bennett and her team are all excellent characters and I look forward to their characters developing further as this series progresses . I would recommend reading the first book if you haven’t already . 4⭐️

Lost Little Angels returns readers to Utah and specifically the closed small town of Hildale. Where mostly everyone is under the control of a cult run by a so-called prophet. Who is currently rotting in jail.

And where babies are going missing and mothers are too scared to speak out.

But for Detective Eve Bennet who escaped the community. The news strikes extremely close to home and evokes fear and memories she'd rather forget.

However, Eve is also determined to get answers and ensure whatever the community is up to is brought to light and stopped.

But to do that she has to face her step brother Aaron. The attorney for the county and part of the community that won't speak out.

Yet, a couple of brave members are willing to go against the others and offer Eve and her team scent details to go on.

Which leads them, and particular Eve down a dangerous path and in the end provides evidence that could blow the case wide open.

That's if Eve and her team survive.

And with such a fascinating setting, intriguing characters and a storyline that had me gripped. Not to mention great pacing, shocks, twists and plenty of detail. This was a really enjoyable read and it's a story I would happily recommend to others, particularly because of the cult/closed community setting.

Quite Possibly More Demented And Disturbing Than The First. This is one of those police procedurals that directly deals with the fallout from the first book - so make sure you read that one first. But then it goes even darker, even more twisted, even more tense. And just when you think this thing couldn't *possibly* get any more twisted, dark, or tense... it very clearly is *still building* to some final showdown, likely in the finale of the series - whenever that might be. Overall truly a great work that is bound to piss off at least some, particularly in polygamous Mormon circles, but shows a great deal of care in showing that the evils perpetrated here are not "mainstream" Mormonism. Very much recommended.

Wow! What an incredible continuation of the first book. When I started the book I knew right away that the fundamentalist people didn’t want to help with the investigation. Page turner, had to know how this book ens and it was the perfect ending to the book. Thanks to netgalley giving me this arc. I’m leaving this review voluntarily and all opinions are my own.

Detective Eve Bennett Book 2.

When Eve receives a phone call in the middle of the night from a desperate woman saying her baby has been taken, she knows she needs to head back to the last place on earth she want to be. Hildale.

Can Eve out her own feelings aside to find the truth? Will she get out unscathed this time? Or will she face horrors she could not imagine?

Once again I was hooked on the story from this dysfunctional, secretive and downright cruel community.

It pulled me in from the start and I absolutely flew through it. A fast paced page turner that will keep you equally intrigued and horrified.

Lost Little Angels is book 2 in the Detective Eve Bennet series by Holly S. Roberts.
I read this book in two sittings, it was so good. I enjoyed reading the first book Only Girl Alive and book two was just as great as the first. I loved being back in the company of Detective Eve. She is a strong character and plays her part so well.
Holly S. Roberts has written an excellent crime thriller series.
A tense setting and chilling storyline I was hooked once I started!
My heart was pumping as the story reached its climax!

I have about 10 crime fiction series that are all in first place as far as being my favorites! Bookouture has made me a hopeless crime junkie.
I waited for this second book in the Eve Bennett series who deals with sicko polygamists in the southwest.
Eve is fighting an insurmountable issue: extreme indoctrination. However she and her team won’t give up.
This book knocked my socks off and I sucked my breath in with the depravity, insanity, and extreme abuse described.
I can’t wait to see what the next book brings, I hope Aaron the slithery bastard is going down.

Wow!
What a gripping, chilling story!
Lost LIttle Angels starts out with the mystery of a baby disappearing. As she begins to investigate, Detective Eve Bennet runs into trouble again with the polygamist group she had been raised in until her mother came back and rescued her. Eve and her team are determined to get answers and find out what is going on.
The atrocities brought to light about the polygamist group is horrifying to read and learn about. The brainwashing and horror going on within this community is mind boggling.
I have to say I hope in the next book something happens to Eve’s stepbrother, Aaron. He makes me cringe just reading about him.
I can’t wait to read more about Eve and her team.
Definitely a recommended crime thriller series!

Detective Eve Bennet answered the distressed call to say a woman's new born baby had been taken, and she needed to hurry. As Eve gathered her crack team of five, all specialists in their field, she filled them in. Heading to Hilldale was something Eve didn't want to do - she never wanted to set foot in the place again. Run by a prophet, with the male followers bowing to every command, the women only chattels, with the men having several wives - illegal in the US - and the children forced to also comply, Eve could feel her past knocking at the door. But she vowed to find the missing baby and investigate the stories of more women and babies vanishing.

Once again, their arrival drew the God squad - men from the cult who kept an eye on strangers to the town - even when they checked in at the hotel which would be their base for however long it took. When Eve visited the attorney general - Aaron, her stepbrother - she knew immediately he would offer no help. Eve, Clyde, Bina, Ray and Collin were on their own - would it be possible to go against the cult to find the answers they so desperately needed?

Lost Little Angels is the 2nd in the Detective Eve Bennet series by Holly S. Roberts and once again I loved it. Fast paced, relentless and electric, Eve and her team are a strong group, a family, always having each other's backs. The evil that permeated the town of Hilldale was shocking, but it wasn't all bad. I am looking forward to #3 very much. Highly recommended.

Wow! The first book I’ve read about a fundamentalist cult like this and it was so brilliantly written.

Detective Eve Bennet spent part of her childhood living there until her mother escapes and was able to come back and rescue Eve some years later, so she has first hand experience of the control and abuse that goes on there. She also has step-brothers who want revenge on her for leaving and working against them.

One of the mothers, Linda, calls Eve in distress, telling her that her newborn baby has disappeared and when Eve goes to speak to her, Linda too has disappeared. Eve discovers that there are more mothers and babies missing and has a fight on her hands to save their lives as the cult closes rank and shows they will do anything it takes to keep her out.

The characters were so well developed, Eve is one strong badass woman and her half brother Aaron is the worst kind of human possible. I haven’t read book one and didn’t feel I missed anything.

Reading this was sickening. Although this is a story, it’s awful to think that this stuff and lots more likely does go on in these fundamentalist religious cults.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Holly S. Roberts and Bookouture for an ARC in return for an honest review.
