I’ve been patiently waiting for this book to be released, I was gripped by the first book in this series and also shocked even after watching countless documentaries about the depraved individuals in these so called communities in Utah.
We found out so much about Eve and her past in the previous book and it just makes her the best person for her job especially in Utah when she’s uncovering the crimes the communities/cults commit.
I’ve literally got no words to say how good this book was , I was on the edge of my seat for every single page. The story was just absolutely incredible and because I’m so invested in Eve and her team I’ll admit that I shed a tear or two at a few emotional or heartbreaking moments.
This is fast becoming my favourite series and I hope we’ll get many more books all about Eve and her team and how they take on the cults and bring them to justice.
This is a brilliant crime thriller.
As we’re only on book 2 I’d highly recommend starting this series as it’s a great read.
In this book Eve receives a late night phone call from a woman saying her baby has been taken from her.
Eve knows the woman lives in the community where she was raised and she knows that they think they have their own rules and regulations.
When Eve and the team get there the other wives try and tell Eve that there was no baby but it’s clear they’re lying.
With men having several wives in this community they think they can do what they like but Eve is not willing to play their games.
Soon they are being watched and threatened by the locals and it’s clear they want them to leave.
Eve won’t let this drop and with other information being given to her by other women, she’s determined to find the babies that have been taken.
This is a gripping crime thriller with some nail biting chapters towards the end that will have you on the edge of your seat.
A great read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #Bookouture for the copy of #LostLittleAngels by HollySRoberts
This is the second book in the series, and it keeps getting better.
Set in a closed religious' community in rural America, this took me inside a world I have never known which only adding to the story.
A woman wakes up to find her baby missing and sets in chain a series of events that leave Detective Eve Bennet and her team racing to help.
A tense, atmosphere in the town and a wall of silence only strengthens their resolve to find the missing child.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Lost Little Angels’, the second in the Detective Eve Bennet series written by Holly S Roberts, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Detective Eve Bennet gets a phone call in the middle of the night from a woman who lives in Hildale, a small town in Utah, saying that her newborn baby Allison has disappeared and that she’s not the only one. Eve was herself brought up in Hildale and lived in a Mormon household until her mother Maggie managed to get away but whenever she returns she experiences the hatred of her step-brothers which makes her even more determined to find out what has happened to the babies and get their mothers to safety.
‘Lost Little Angels’ continues on from ‘Only Girl Alive’ , the previous book in the series, but is even more exciting and not for the faint-hearted as Eve and her loyal task force come face-to-face with the God Squad who try to intimidate them by following them around and blocking them from helping the women. Once again Eve has to face her step-brother Aaron, the County Attorney, and her other step-brothers who attacked her in book one, but she’s not working alone as she has Clyde, Bina, Collin and Ray who she thinks of as the family she never had, who work to their strengths and cover each other’s backs. Add to this a massive helping of drama, suspense, twists and very nasty individuals including the self-appointed Prophet, and you’ve got a thriller of immense proportions that keeps you totally involved. Just as you think things can’t get any worse for Eve they do, as evidenced in the shocking conclusion, that makes my heart race and keeps me glued to my Kindle. I wholeheartedly recommend this brilliant thriller and can’t wait for book three.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read an advance copy of this book by an author I was not aware of. Lost Little Angels had me so engrossed, I couldn’t put it down until I was finished. The entire story line was very detailed, spot on and had me caught up in the madness. The details about the Mormon religion are revolting. Definitely recommend this book and I will be reading the first book in the Eve series as well to get caught up.
An absolute must read! It's everything you'd want from a police procedural and walks the line between the ridiculous TV police dramas where things are solved in seconds and the police procedural that are so in depth and drag on about the most dull aspects of the police work n makes the whole book drag! This has the balance perfectly, making it seem realistic but also engaging and keeping the plot moving forward. I also loved that it's such a unique and original concept and I'm always fascinated by the mentality and dynamics of these cult type places anyways so it was a win for me
While this is book 2 in the Detective Eve Bennet series, readers can enjoy it without having read the first book as it did not significantly impact the overall rating or enjoyment. This ARC recommended it for fans of Melinda Leigh, Kendra Elliott, and Lisa Regan, and the book did not disappoint. However, please note that some readers may find the content of this book difficult and disturbing.
The main character, Eve, is a strong and accomplished woman heading a task force, and her team works well together, forging a strong bond, like family. The case takes them back to Hilldale, a place Eve escaped during her childhood, and the community they encounter is one where men believe they are superior, controlling, and mistreat women and children.
When a baby goes missing, Eve and her team investigate, discovering that the mother has also vanished. The story is action-packed, with the team facing a community that intimidates outsiders and interferes with their investigation.
While justice is served in the end, there are still more battles to come for Eve and her team and the community of Hilldale.
I was hesitant about continuing with this series because I found the first installment so disturbing and the thought of committing to a series based on the disgusting, depraved, wackos in a polygamist, fundamentalist, religious group in Utah just didn’t really appeal to me. As far as I’m concerned, disgusting, depraved, wackos in polygamist, fundamentalist, religious groups are simply cults trying to pass themselves off as groups of Christians who want to live a moral and religious life. Nothing about these wackos is moral or religious. JMHO
However, after reading a couple of reviews from people I follow, I thought I would give this series another read. The book summary introduces the primary storyline of missing babies and wives in the polygamist, fundamentalist, religious group (that I now deem the wackos). There is also a secondary storyline of Eve receiving blocked calls in the middle of the night of crying babies. Eve thinks it’s her stepbrother, Aaron, the county attorney and an Elder of the wackos. He’s also lusted after Eve for decades and it’s disgusting the way that he talks to her and the way he tries to lord over her. It’s good to see that Eve has toughened up her backbone and puts him in his place sometimes.
Most of the story revolves around the investigation of a missing newborn baby girl and her mother. In the town of Hilldale, where the wackos reside, females are commodities that are bartered, abused and “reassigned” as the “prophet”, and the men who carry out his orders, see fit. Early in the story, Eve and the team help rescue a pregnant wife who wants out of Hilldale and free from the wackos. Through this woman, Eve and the team learn that pregnant women and their babies have been disappearing for a while now.
There are also secondary storylines like the one about a secret member of the wackos who is organizing some of the other wackos in hopes of overthrowing the current prophet, the king wacko. There is another secondary storyline around Eve and her memories of growing up with the wackos and the disappearance of her younger brother and sister who were developmentally and/or physically disabled. She also remembers her bio mother disappearing and not seeing her again for years before she eventually returned and rescued Eve from the wackos.
At the halfway point, a major development happens, and this allows Eve and the team to not only discover some incredibly disturbing info and leads about the wackos, but they also begin to realize that Aaron’s position in the wackos is not as high and as powerful as they thought or as he likes to pretend. He’s on thin ice with the wackos. The ending came pretty quick after that in an intense, life or death scene for Eve. HALLELUJAH!!! I loved the ending; VERY SATISFYING!!!!!
At 283pgs, it was a pretty quick read, that had me up late on a Friday night because I could not go to sleep until I knew how it ended. This was another installment of the depiction of the disgusting and depraved actions and behaviors of a bunch of wackos who think they are some kind of disciples of God. The wackos in this story are nothing more than a bunch of depraved psychos who are so far removed from being Christians or followers of God it’s absolutely disgusting. It's stories like this that give rise to comments like "some people just need killing" in order to make the world a better place. Stories like this are very believable and truly scary because there really are wackos out there in the world JUST. LIKE. THESE. PSYCHOS!!!!!
It will be interesting to see where Roberts takes the series going forward. I'm sure there are plenty more wacko communities out there for Eve and her team to go after. I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Lost Little Angels, the second novel to feature Detective Eve Bennett, set in the fictional polygamist town of Hilldale, Utah.
Eve is wakened by a call from a woman she knows telling her that her newborn baby has disappeared. By the time she gets to Hilldale the woman has also disappeared and nobody is talking except to say they know nothing. Neither of the disappearances are the first so Eve and her team find themselves investigating evil in the town.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lost Little Angels, which is a fast paced, tense read with some great twists and turns. I admit that I don’t know enough about the polygamist community to judge the shocking events and attitudes in this novel, but some of the lurid headlines about real life cases do not make it totally unbelievable.
The novel gets off to a fast start with the mysterious disappearances and just keeps going. I think that its page turning draw lies as much in the beliefs and actions of the community as it does in the plot. Personally, I read it with fascinated revulsion at the subjugation of women and what they will do to maintain the patriarchy. The what they will do part gives the reader an excellent sense of tension at the implied danger and uncertainty. It works really well. Apart from the constant tension the novel has a series of tricky situations for the team and some jaw dropping developments, some more credible than others.
Eve leads a task force investigating any criminality perpetrated by the Church and its followers. The novel gives hints of future investigations and there is so much left to do that the series could run forever. As a former member she is ideally suited to understand the environment, but not all of it as she left as a teenager and a female one at that, so she was never privy to the big secrets or hierarchy. Still, hers is a good voice to have as the single point of view narrator.
Lost Little Angels is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
This is the second book in the Detective Eve Bennet series and both books are excellent ! Love Eve and her team! Soon as you start this book the author keeps you turning the pages. You need to what is happened to all the missing babies!! Why has the mothers disappeared? There is something very sinister going on and Eve and her team will not stop till they find out I really love this series because of the very different storylines nothing like I have read in awhile. Lots of suspense and mystery. Very quick read which I love!! Recommend reading this book and series. Look forward to book # 3!!!
Lost Little Angels was a wild, sit on the edge of your seat, thrilling ride. I enjoyed book 1 and found the subject matter, based on a true cult, fascinating. I absolutely loved book 2 and want more. Detective Sergeant Eve Bennet and her team have a great dynamic. I want to know more about Clyde, his past and why he left SWAT. There must be a story there. Holly Roberts writing style is dead on and you feel she knows what she’s talking about with police procedure. I’m a new fan. Lost Little Angels is a MUST read!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of Lost Little Angels to read and review.
This is the second in the Detective Eve Bennet series. Eve was once a member of this community so she understands how they act and react. She is, once again, up against her step brother Aaron, who is the county attorney. Eve has been called in to help find a lost baby and her mother. No spoilers as you will have to read this book! It has a surprise ending that you won't see coming. It is gripping with plenty of twists and turns.
Another hit from Holly S. Roberts in the Detective Eve Bennet series (Book 2). Lost Little Angels is a solid crime thriller. It's after midnight when Detective Eve Bennet receives a distraught phone call from an unknown number. The voice at the other end begs her not to hang up—a baby has gone missing. But what the caller says next makes Eve's heart race. "She isn't the first. There are many, many more."
There were some sad moments and one particularly tear-jerking moment (I don't want to say what it is, so I don't give anything away about the characters). I enjoy this author's writing style and how she creates credible characters and unravels the mystery. I read the first book and really liked it, and Lost Little Angels is an excellent addition to the series. It provides even more information about the fundamentalist church, the horrors that happen behind closed doors, and the brainwashing and indoctrination of the religion.
I would recommend this book, this series, and this author.

Detective Eve Bennet is back again with more troubles in the polygamist clan she grew up in. Mothers are having babies and they disappear after a few days. Eve, Clyde and the rest of her force are on a race to find the babies. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.
Detective Eve Bennet was rescued from an extreme polygamous religious cult as a child, and she spends her days working to end the oppression of women and children by the male leaders of the cult. As the coordinator of a special team that investigates crimes within the closed community, Eve is often the target of the sect's violence. In this book, the team is called into action when a new mother contacts Eve about her missing baby. They soon learn that babies sired by someone other than the designated "seed-bearers" are taken away and their mothers put into isolation for months that involves torture and rape. Some of Eve's siblings in the sect are deeply involved in the violence as are a police officer and the sheriff. It's an intense storyline that keeps your heart racing until the end.
Wow I didn't like the first one even though I give I think 3 stars , this one was a bit better but I don't think I'll go on with the series after this one .
Holly S. Roberts' Eve Bennet Series is a MUST READ. As the lead detective for an oversight of a polygamous region, Eve directs an incredible team of investigators - each with their own set of skills... but one commonality, they all have each other's backs. To complicate the oversight, Eve was once a member of this community before her Mom rescued her. Her "step-brother" Aaron is the county attorney, and a constant pain in Eve's back. In Lost Little Angels, Eve receives a frantic call from a sister wife stating that her baby has been taken from her and is missing. The team sets out to talk with the Mom, and as soon as they get there, the sister-wife is no longer in the household. This sets up an incredible storyline that takes Eve on a journey that winds back to her childhood. Ms. Roberts has created such an incredible character with Eve Bennet... and this book will leave you thinking about it long after you are done reading it. Seriously - get hooked on this series! Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
Book 2 in the series and biting at the bit for the next instalment… A woman leaves Eve a hand drawn map leading her to an isolated trailer park. What she finds there shocks her to her core. But she hardly has time to think before she notices a lone figure watching her every move. She’s not alone.…. It draws you in from the opening chapters. An exhilarating and totally satisfying read. I read it breakneck fast, such a brutally good page-turner. Yet another fine outing from this great author. It hits the ground running and the pace never misses a beat. An absolutely gripping thriller that will keep you reading late into the night, unable to put the book down for a second.
I remember the first book vividly. It is still etched in my memory. It is a story I could never ever forget because of it was so deeply shocking and a eyeopener like I never had one before.
Now Eve and her team are back and once again you feel the danger and the threats oozing from the pages.
The situation the author described in book one was devastating and heartbreaking, but boy oh boy, this one was maybe even more of the backside kicking kind.
If you have enough charisma or can make people fear you or maybe even the two combined, you can rule a community or even the world.
Women are often seen as the weaker sex, but then they have not met some of the women in this town. Mothers are lionesses when defending their children and Lexi and her team consider victims as their 'children' wanting to protect and/or save them at any cost.
Another amazing story by this author. I loved it and I hated the situations with a vengeance. 5 stars
Thank you
Holy guacamole…
I don’t know where to begin…What. A. Wild. Ride. This was high octane from the start. I liked book 1. It was unique and dark with a premise that really deeply troubled me. I was eager to see where she would take it.
Wow…I was literally on the edge of my seat holding my breath at the end of this book. There are characters that I so deeply hate. I need to see them get what is coming. Eve is one tough cop. And her team is fierce. I find the subject matter of these stories dark and deeply troubling. I need Eve to make it better. This book was so fast paced. I need the next book and I need there to be a reckoning on certain characters. I will say it again…WOW.
