This book is another classic Freida read! She grabs your attention from the start and keeps it until the end when you will be saying, "Wow, what just happened!?!' This is my tenth Frieda read, and the Coworker is like all the rest! I will ALWAYS recommend Frieda McFadden's books, no matter the genre or the title. I will almost guarantee that you will not be guessing the ending of this book or any other of Frieda's books.
I’m not sure how to review this book. It kept me interested, mostly the first part, but it just didn’t have the twists that I like from McFadden. I also feel like the neurodivergence of a main character was oddly done and portrayed as just weird.
Frieda McFadden, the reigning queen of popcorn thrillers, once again delivers an absolute gem with The Coworker. I’m a long-time fan of this author and I eagerly devoured this latest addition. I’m happy to report that it doesn’t disappoint and the author has certainly earned her reputation for unpredictable twists and fun-to-read thrillers. From the first page, you'll find it nearly impossible to put this book down. The authors skill in building suspense and luring you into a false sense of security before pulling the rug out with another twist is evident here yet again. The use of multiple narrators and perspectives adds depth to the narrative, drawing you deeper into the story's web of secrets and suspense. One thing I’ve seen critiqued about this book is the authors portrayal of a character who is heavily implied to have autistic-like traits. I liked that the author didn’t provide a diagnosis or label and simply presented us with a character who is likeable and unique.
The Coworker is sure to be a hit with Frieda fans and anyone who enjoys thrillers. I am looking forward to her newly announced book The Teacher to see what else the author offers up.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an ARC of this book.
This book was a slower read for me at the beginning but i enjoyed trying to figure out who to trust and who not to by the end.
I’m a Freida fan so I was anxious to get an ARC copy and it didn’t disappoint. By the time I got hooked into the story it was unputdownable!!!
Rating 4/5
I have many McFadden books on my TBR but this is the first book of hers that I’ve read. Why did I wait so long? I don’t know. Now I can see why she is so popular.
Dawn Schiff is strange.
At least, everyone thinks so at the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m.So when Dawn doesn't show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell―beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running―is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything…
It turns out Dawn wasn't just an awkward outsider―she was being targeted by someone close. And now Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who's the real victim? But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff. Enough to kill.
This psychological thriller keep me interested all throughout the book. Some
nights I couldn’t put it down. Lots of twists and turns that I did not see coming. Dawn is definitely on the spectrum and I felt bad for the way other people treated her just because she was different. Natalie was not my favorite character. She is your typical mean girl who just thinks she is better than everyone. I really enjoyed the character development that McFadden put into both characters. This book was well written and I can’t wait to read more McFadden books.
Thank you to NetGalley for the Advanced Copy.
Natalie works works in sales for a health and wellness company. Beautiful and successful, Natalie is no stranger to everyone in the office; even her new cubicle neighbor, Dawn. Natalie makes nice with Dawn but doesn’t quite understand her obsession with turtles. Until one day when Dawn, whose schedule can be predicted down to the minute, doesn’t show up for work and Natalie goes to check on her.
Dawn and Natalie’s story is told through both perspectives. However, Dawn’s is through emails.
As usual, Freida does a fantastic job writing. I enjoy the multiple viewpoints and the story flows quickly and effortlessly.
I read this book in a day and very much enjoyed it. I did think some of it was more predictable than her other books but it didn’t take away from the book. It still ended with a twist I didn’t expect.
Well ،I love all Freida 's books.this one was special because it dealt with a special case that we all sympathized with. At the end there were many secrets for the two female characters. I enjoyed it 😊😊😊
Dawn is a very punctual person. She lives by a schedule and is thought of as very odd by her coworkers. I feel this relates to me. lOL.
I really thought Dawn was not weird at all.
Natalie you can tell was the “popular girl” throughout her entire life. Using her looks to charm everyone around her.
Overall I really enjoyed this
Freida has done it again! I have not been disappointed by any of her books that I have picked up. When I tell you this one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it, I am NOT joking. By the time I was finished I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. If you like a book with amazing twists and one that will keep you guessing all the way til the end, this is the book for you! Well, really any Freida book will fit that category!!
This is a must read for sure, pick up your copy today on Amazon and other major retailers!!
I have been meaning to read more of author Freida McFadden’s books since enjoying ‘The Housemaid’ so I was glad to accept the offer of reading her latest novel ‘The Coworker’. This novel hooked me from the start and kept me guessing throughout, a few times I thought I had it worked out but foiled again by the author.
This is an exciting novel that focuses on two women, Dawn Schiff and Natalie Farrell. They are not alike and to be honest couldn’t be more different. Dawn works as an accountant, very focused, plain, awkward but quirky and not someone that would attract friends easily. At the other extreme we have Natalie, the top sales representative at Vixed, beautiful, friendly and very popular with her colleagues. Two very different women but both have secrets and vulnerabilities.
Dawn is reliable and always on time and in fact you could set your clock to her, so when she fails to arrive at work there are instant suspicions that something must be wrong. Natalie is especially concerned and this is made worse when an anonymous phone call seems to confirm her suspicions plunging her into a labyrinth of intrigue, deceit, and danger. She takes on trying to unravel the secrets that surround Dawn and her sudden disappearance. The plot is set and I couldn’t put this book down reading it in one sitting. Great storytelling, good characters and plenty of suspense and intrigue.
Every time I was getting ready to take a break from the book the story took another twist which tricked me into continuing. I really enjoyed this novel and on finishing lined a couple more of her novels to keep me going.
This is an exciting novel that is well worth reading if you enjoy psychological thrillers with plenty of tension.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Poison Pen Press for supplying this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Yes another great story from Freida McFadden very interesting could not put it down though I did find it overlong. Was interesting his one women with no friends got attached to one with lots of friends and total opposites helped wa h other through a crisis in their luves.
Thanks netgalley for this book.
I was approved for the audiobook before I got this title.
I think I preferred the audiobook only because there wasn’t a lot of action throughout the book… just felt like I was going through an investigation and it being read to me was easier to get through it.
I liked the book for reasons that I could physically read the emails Dawn was sending.
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this book. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it really kept me interested and the big twist was definitely a shock!
Office conflict? Of course. But Natalie and Dawn are not totally what they seem, and neither are the guys, Seth and Caleb.
My thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the gifted copy. My review is voluntary.
I received this book from netgalley for a honest review.

As soon as this landed on my kindle at 10pm I started it straight away. Freida is one of my favourite authors. I've loved all her books I've read. She is the master of twists and making you think wtf alot 😳.. I liked this book I did but it took me a while with part one I kept getting distracted but stuck with it it was the whole turtles thing I think. It was very clever the emails and the whole set up I did at one part think it was Seth that was dodgy but I was wrong.. I had a feeling about the body and then I was right. I'm still giving this book four stars as part two for me made up for it.
Can't wait to see what Freida comes up with next.
Ok, to preface, I LOVE Freida’s books.
This book for me was just OK. It took me about a week to read; typically I devour her books in a single sitting.
The Coworker centered around two coworkers, Natalie and Dawn. There is some unreliable narrating and definitely some twists, but nothing like the usual Freida twists.
The character development was severely lacking and the amount of filler in this book was just astounding. I understand we were supposed to understand one of the characters was autistic, but the way in which it went on and on was disappointing and honestly, frustrating.
This was a quick read, didn't feel like a psychological thriller to me. Kinda read like a drama with way too many turtle references.
Just a bit of a snooze. A very small cast of characters that weren’t all that interesting and very predictable twists. Also, I’ve seen too many episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit to not scoff at that shoddy detective work.
This is the first book that I have read of this author’s and I am doing my happy dance!! I have found a new author to love. This book was fantastic!!

★★☆ 2.5/5 stars
Synopsis:
Two women. One mysterious crime. An office filled with secrets. Turtles.
You can set your watch by Dawn, who always arrives to her desk at 8:45am sharp. So when Dawn doesn't show up to work one day, her coworker Natalie instantly knows something is wrong. No one else in the office seems concerned, but Natalie reports Dawn's disappearance to the police & starts to do her own investigating... only to find herself as the number one suspect.
My Thoughts:
This one was not all bad, but not great - still entertaining in a cheesy, lifetime movie kind of way. Think The Office meets Mean Girls & make it a popcorn thriller.
The story itself felt very juvenile. The highschoolish drama, issues around bullying & the simple, repetitive writing was cringey. The use of the word "turtle" alone made me roll my eyes countless times. The twists were predictable & unoriginal.
Overall it was a fast & easy read, but not one id recommend. I think I will continue to read her backlist, but I won't be in a hurry to pick up more of her new releases.
Thank you to @netgalley & @poisonedpenpress for the opportunity to read this arc!
