Wow! What a knockout debut!

4 or 4.5 stars?

This story had my attention from start to finish. The whole time I was reading, I dreaded the moment my prediction would happen. The twist was twisty, and I was shocked!!! The ending was packed and so fast-paced. I loved it!

The characters were developed so well, even Max, who was in the background sleuthing (IYKYK).

I also appreciate how the author gives our MMC a voice and how well he expresses his emotions and is in tune with them, which made me feel his dread and rollercoaster of emotions.

The foreboding was immaculate! I definitely recommend picking this one up when it releases on 1.2.24

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC/ALC. I read and listened to this one. I liked the audiobook better. I thought the story was good but it dropped off for me when the kids became the sleuths. Still really enjoyed and will recommend.

This books takes you on a thrilling ride. Alternating between the viewpoints of a teenage girl who wakes up on the side of the road not knowing who she is, and a teenage boy who's girlfriend is missing and everyone assumes he killed her, the story sucks you in. Are these two narrators connected? Is the girl who doesn't know who she is actually the missing girlfriend? You can't help but want to know more, and how each situation came to be. This thrilling story is full of twists, a big reveal that will catch you off guard, and a conclusion that is deeply emotional. If you are looking for an engaging, fast paced YA thriller this is definitely one to pick up.

⭐️⭐⭐️⭐⭐️ That’s Not My Name by Megan Lally

Oh my cheeseballs! This is a debut novel? Where have you been?

This book held me in a chokehold. It was thrilling, suspenseful, and gripping to the end. I was completely immersed in the search for Lola Scott. Lola has gone missing and her boyfriend has been deemed suspect number 1 and only. In the meantime, a young girl named “Mary” has been found on the side of the road, beaten up and with no memory, not even of her name. What’s the connection? Think you know?

As I was reading, I was completely impressed with the level of writing by not only a young adult author, but a new one at that. It was very well told…I felt like I was there -- searching for her myself or trying to figure out who I was, as the novel was told in dual perspectives, the boyfriend Drew and the found girl Mary. As is typical with young adult thrillers, the teens go off and try to solve the mystery on their own. This was the point at which I thought it was all going to fall apart. BUT NOT AT ALL! Not one time did I cringe at their choices! They were rational and realistic. YAY!

Megan Lally actually reminds me of John Grisham with the way in which her words flow with a preciseness, without the redundancy and over telling (kinda like I’m doing here - haha), with purposeful word-choice, brilliant sentence structure, and first-rate story telling.

I definitely recommend this book!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this title for review.

I didn’t notice that this was categorized as YA when I requested this, and I missed it because I probably wouldn’t have requested it. This was a good story. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. The character development was great. I felt invested in know what was going to happen next. Some of the twists I saw coming, some I thought I’d predicted and I was wrong!

I could not put That's Not My Name down. The book starts out as a bit of a slow build, and not in the sense that it's a slow story. The story starts strong with a girl waking up in the woods after a car accident, and not remembering who she is. Then the story bounces to Drew who is searching for his missing girlfriend, and he's the prime suspect in her disappearance. While the early part of the book is slower, it will keep you on the edge of your seat as Lally dives into the characters and sets the stage for the second half of the book.

When this story picks up speed, boy does it ever. I thought the twist was fantastic, and enjoyed the ending, although it wasn't what I was expecting (or hoping for, if I'm being honest) but it was still strong.

A great book that kept me turning the pages.

The cover is what attracted me (yes, I am one of THOSE).

The cover was more interesting. The plot line feels so convoluted that I disconnected.

The premise was great, but the whole amnesia thing has also gotten old. I took this because I thought the author would give an old premise a new twist....she did not.

4.5 Stars

I really really enjoyed this story. I was instantly sucked into the story and the characters throughout. There was of course a twist, but it added to the story instead of creating frustration with the reader.

Missing girl, "guilty" looking boyfriend, and of course her best friend's dad is the small town sheriff. You are taken on a ride as three teens attempt to push the law enforcement to take a fresh look into their friend's vanishing all the while taking it into their own hands to solve the mystery.

Thank you to Megan Lally for sending me the ARC!! I was so psyched to win this and absolutely devoured this book! It starts off right into the thick of it and does not let up! With one narrator who has no memory, we are trying to figure out who she is along side her. The format of switching POVs kept me continuing on in the book! As one character would end a chapter with a cliffhanger, then switch to another character, I couldn’t wait to get back to see what would happen! And I loved the writing style! It made it such a quick, easy read and the subtle nod to Mean Girls was everything! This is a great YA thriller that I think any thriller lover will enjoy! I am shocked this is a debut and cannot wait to see what is next for Megan!

This book was definitely a page turner, I was hooked from the first chapter.

A teenage girl wakes up in a ditch, bruised and bleeding. A police officer finds her and takes her to the station, where later a man named Wayne comes in, frantically searching for his daughter. The girl has amnesia due to her injuries but Wayne provides photos and a birth certificate to show that she is his daughter.

Elsewhere in the state, Drew is continuing to search for his girlfriend, who went missing after they had an argument. He becomes the prime suspect and is desperate to find her.

I really liked all of the characters and couldn’t stop reading to find out what would happen.
The two storylines converge for an action-packed ending. There was more violence/blood than I was expecting but overall I really enjoyed this YA thriller.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

A young teen is found on the side of the road. She’s injured, has a concussion and memory loss. She’s at the police station trying to figure out who she is, and what happened. While refusing to go to the hospital to get looked at, a man walks into the station and claims to be her father..
In a different town a few hours away, Drew is distraught over the disappearance of his girlfriend Lola. Drew is desperate to find Lola and prove his innocence, because he was the last one to see her before she went missing.
This novel is told with dual POV”s, the young teen girl and Drew.
I found the story fast paced, and quite intriguing for YA.

Imagine being a girl who wakes up on the side of the road battered and bruised with no memory of anything. Not even your name.
Imagine being a teenage boy who is the number one suspect to his girlfriend’s disappearance!
Such a great YA novel. It follows a girl with no name who’s dad just happens to show up at the police station shortly after she is discovered on the road with no memory of anything and a young man who is the talk of the town and the #1 suspect of his girlfriend’s disappearance. Until a discovery is made that a call to the tip line for the missing girl has them chasing down leads to find the missing girl and clear his name. A definite page turner that doesn’t disappoint

I really enjoyed this book. I was completely engrossed in the story right away. It was fast paced and I loved the writing style. The alternating chapters was a great way to tell the story.

I also really enjoyed the fact that it was set in Oregon. The creepy isolated cabin in the woods was the perfect setting. I could really envision it.

I don’t want to give too much of the plot away. There was a twist I didn’t see coming and I don’t want to chance running that. Just know if you enjoy YA thrillers, I highly recommend this book!

Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for allowing me to read an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

She woke up in a ditch, bruised and bleeding. She doesn't remember what happened, or who she is. She is found by a police officer. Wayne comes to claim her, says he is her dad and her name is Mary. He explains that she disappeared earlier that day while traveling from home to the cabin they are staying in while their house is under construction. He has a birth certificate, social security card, pictures of them together when she was younger & more recent pictures of her. The longer she is with Wayne, the more things don’t feel quite right.

Andrew “Drew” Carter-Diaz was with Lola the night she disappeared. She had an argument with her parents and asked Drew to pick her up. But then she walked away from the car and disappeared.
Everyone except his dads and cousin Max believe that he did something to her. The sheriff is convinced that Drew killed Lola, and is not open to other theories of what could have happened.

The questions:
What happened to Lola?
What is Drew hiding?
Is Mary really Mary?

Just when you think you have it figured out, there is a twist.

I absolutely loved this debut novel. I will definitely be purchasing this title for my library.

summary: a girl is found in a forest with no memory of how she got there. her father picks her up from the police station. or does he?? a boy’s girlfriend is missing and he’s accused of murdering her; he goes looking for her. how are these two POVs connected???? who knows!!!

thoughts: really really good. heart-pounding edge-of-one’s-seat content! some of the ending felt a little weird?? like the character arcs weren't quite... arc-ing. but overall this was a great thriller! solid twist! absolutely recommend if you need to be spooked out for a few hours!!!!!

I could not stop reading this book! This is intense and page turning the whole way through, leading me to finish in 4 hours. Usually I don't love the "amnesia" troupe but it didn't bother me at all this time!

It's been awhile since I've read a YA book. I forgot how good they can be. This one is told by 2 POV, one being the girl that lost her memory and the other is a boyfriend under suspicion of murdering his girlfriend. It's 2 stories that will converge with a twist. Megan Lally does a fantastic job telling this story. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It will make you sad and frustrated at times, but it's part of what makes it work.

Thank you to NetGalley, Megan Lally and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to read this ARC.
