This was a great book for fans of serial killer thrillers. The setting was interesting and the group of teenage friends made the story play out differently than how I would have guessed. It definitely had great creepy vibes and had this lasting spookiness to it.
This was a solid YA horror that I think could have been a lot better as a graphic novel or TV series. There were a lot of great visuals that I think almost work better to physically see than read about it. I loved the graphic novel pages inside and that's what I was most interested in. The book was just too long because it wanted to explain everything and that, again, would have worked better in a graphic novel.
This started out really strong and was genuinely creepy, but it just went on too long. It needed to be edited a bit down and the ending was a bit odd compared to how the rest of the book went. I wish the ending had gone down a different route. Overall I would still recommend giving this one a shot. It was a really fun read for the Halloween season.
I give this book 3 stars for its eerie, Stranger Things vibes and unsettling atmosphere—perfect for spooky season! "The Stitcher" is a chilling villain who terrorizes the town of Doubtful, and the tension of Abby’s quest to save her sister kept me turning pages. While the supernatural element worked better than I expected (as I usually steer clear of that), the story didn't quite hit the mark for me in terms of fear—it felt creepy, but not as scary as I'd hoped. Still, if you're into dark and sinister YA horror, it's worth a read. I’ll definitely check out more from Darcy Coates!
Thank you to Sourcebooks, Netgalley, and Darcy Coates
Thank you to netgalley for providing an e-galley for review. Where He Can't Find You is a super creepy novel about a town that protects a killer called the Stitcher. Abby, her sister and her friends live by a very strict set of rules to keep safe living in this town where people go missing, then are found stitched back together in a horrific fashion. One night her sister goes missing and Abby decides she's done living in fear. She's ready to defeat the Stitcher.
I absolutely LOVE books by Darcy Coates and really enjoyed this novel. I was hooked until the very end and cannot recommend this book enough.
Try as I might, I just could not get into this book. I am a big fan of the genre, but perhaps I'm not the target audience for this book.
This is a very good YA Horror book. This story follows a group of friends and a serial killer they call The Stitcher. When one of them goes missing, the others decide to try to save her. This book kept my attention, even though horror isn’t always my favorite. It moved quickly and I liked the ending.
I overall thought this was an interesting read. As far as young adult horror goes, it was alright. It had creepy moments, and the imagery and idea of the stitcher was unsettling. The pacing was a little stretched out, and some of the twists didn’t land for me. I would recommend this title for someone starting out in horror.
I am such a big fan od Darcy Coates. This book pulled me out of a reading slump and I just devoured it! Her writing style is so good and she gives me the eeriness vibes I am looking for! This is such a great read and I would recommend to those who love a good suspensful thriller.
I didnt get a chance to leave a full review before the publication date, however I did read this one and gave it 4 stars
I liked this one. I think the pacing was a bit slow, and there were definiely some plot things I was like wait....but overall the ending was a lot of fun! I wanted to be a bit more creeped out, but again, the ending helped make up for that. I didn't love how much back and forth there was between human vs. not because it never really felt like it could be either or, it just felt muddled to me.
I loved Darcy' Coates adult book " Dead of Winter" and thought that this one would be not as creepy/scary since its YA but that was not the case. It was wonderfully creepy and suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat the while time I was reading it.
Delightfully creepy with a supernatural twist I didn’t expect. Where He Can’t Find You is told in varying points of view as a group of teenagers work to rescue one of their own from the elusive serial killer, the Stitcher. While the idea of the Stitcher and the murders are gruesome, it never felt like too much in the descriptions and storyline. It was of course, still morbid and eerily unsettling, particularly in the world building of the small town and its odd sprinkle of habitants. Though fast paced, Coates YA debut didn’t hold my attention like I would have expected and I often found myself picking up one of my other current reads in lieu of this one.
In the end, there were some questions that were left unanswered and holes in the plot, but it was still a good read that I would probably recommend to the right person.
Good thriller that I really enjoyed. It was well written and a thrill ride for the reader. I really enjoyed this one.
Ohhhh, I really enjoyed this. Read it in one (long) sitting, because I *had* to know what was going to happen next. I liked the way the story changed viewpoints so we got an insider and outsider take on the events, and I appreciated the skepticism of one of the characters. I feel like the people in this town reacted the way you realistically would given the various situations. I also liked how the author upped the stakes incrementally, in an almost frog-in-boiling-water way that the characters couldn't get out of. And that you think you know what is going on, until you don't, but what you did think was going on also wasn't totally wrong, either.
The creepy parts were thoroughly creepy, and I really hope this gets made into a movie, because it would be suuuuuch a good horror movie. As is, it's a great YA horror.
Darcy Coates wrote a great YA book. Her ominous tone is present, as it is in her adult books. The characters were diverse and likable. It was a fun book to read and I enjoyed it.
"Where He Can't Find You" by Darcy Coates is a spine-tingling thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Set in a remote cabin in the woods, the story follows protagonist Emily as she seeks refuge from a terrifying stalker. Coates masterfully builds suspense with each turn of the page, creating a palpable sense of dread that lingers long after the book is closed.
The atmospheric setting adds to the tension, as Emily grapples with the isolation of her surroundings while trying to outwit her relentless pursuer. Coates expertly crafts a chilling narrative filled with unexpected twists and heart-pounding moments, keeping readers guessing until the very end. "Where He Can't Find You" is a gripping psychological thriller that will leave you breathless and eagerly anticipating Coates' next spine-tingling tale.
I generally love Darcy Coates books and I would say this one was good but not great, while also quite different to the ones I’ve read before. I definitely agree with the stranger things comparison (in a good way). Despite the characters ages his book didn’t feel YA to me and was genuinely scary. The major fault to me was its length however, it was captivating enough to keep me hooked until the end.
Like her other books I’ve read, the writing is good, but I just wasn’t invested in the story. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters and was waiting for a twist that’s common in Coates’ book, yet it never came.
Although I feel like this probably would make a better novella than a 400 pages book, it was entertaining for a YA story and I’m sure loads of people, especially teens, are going to love it.
After reading this book, I am convinced that Darcy Coates is one of the best voices in thriller/horror fiction.
Abby's town is haunted by The Stitcher. What sounds like an urban legend to an outsider is all too real for the residents of Doubtful. If you're out after dark, if you're out alone, The Stitcher will take you. If you're lucky, your body may be returned (pieces of it at least), held together by bright red thread. Abby's friends have strict rules in place to make sure they're safe from The Stitcher, but when Abby's sister Hope is taken it will take all of them to work together to figure out who - or what - The Stitcher is and get Hope back before she's consumed.
This book is creepy, grim, and unsettling. The dark vibe that hangs over the town is palpable, as is the fear among the residents. As for the characters, I love Abby and her friends so much. The relationship among them is so pure and protective, I wish I had friends like this growing up (town monster notwithstanding). The inspire each other to be brave and courageous, while still watching each other's backs.
Overall, I loved this book. If all of Coates's books are this creepy, I will gladly read every single one.
