Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC. This book could have been such a gem for me, but I felt this was way too long with way too much back story. I didn't like the slow pace and felt it could have been "nerve-racking" with a shorter story. I know many people will like this but not for me.

Book : Where He Can’t Find You
Author : Darcy Coates
Pub Date : 07 Nov 2023

Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks Fire, & the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I love and eat up everything that Darcy Coates releases. This book was a little bit different than others I’ve read and it was YA which I was curious about. Regardless I enjoyed it. It was a fun fast paced read. This book gives the best mystery & thriller vibes that I love with the creepy vibes we know from her other writing weaved throughout.

The characters and plot were well written—this story keeps you guessing from start to finish and makes you question all the things you thought was happening. I will be recommending this book to all my friends who love a good mysterious-supernatural-horror thriller book. This needs to be on your TBR right away.

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I like creepy small town books. While Where He Can’t Find You definitely delivered a disturbing little town, I was a little distracted by some parts of the story. I feel like there were some things that weren’t properly explained for me, or didn’t get why real explanation at all, and while I found myself deeply interested in the story, there were times where I didn’t totally get it. I will say that I generally enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to other creepy small town lovers.

This gave me ALL the Stranger Things vibes!! YA horror at its best. This book was expertly written between supernatural and real life.

Don’t Walk Alone. The Stitcher has haunted Doubtful, Illinois for many years. The town has been haunted for years. Is the town suspect, Charles Vickers to blame? Is The Stitcher human or supernatural? Once Abby’s sister is taken, a group of her closest friends take on the challenge to find out.

All of the characters were so well developed here. It gave me Stranger Things feelings and I loved every minute of that! I enjoyed the storyline and teetering between fact or fantasy. When I tell you the last 2 hours of this book had me GLUED to my kindle - I am serious. I had the creeps reading this at night and seeing the movie like visions I was getting in my head!

THANK YOU Sourcebooks, the author, and NetGalley for this digital ARC!
Publication date: 11/07/23☺️

Don't let the genre of young adult fool you. I was still pretty creeped out and jumped at any small noise while I was reading this book. The location of underground mines with an unknown creature lurking in the dark made for an excellent and terrifying setting.

I couldn't figure out if the character and suspected "Stitcher" Charles Vickers truly had something to do with all the disappearances of people around town or not. It seemed too obvious as it was revealed in the beginning of the book. So the whole time I questioned whether it was him or not. I loved how the book seeded doubt in my mind with every chapter.

Where He Can't Find You is full of supernatural themes. I am not a huge fan of those types of books, but I still did enjoy reading this and if you are a fan then I think you will love this book!

Thanks to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire, Sourcebooks Fire for a digital ARC.

“Where He Can’t Find You” by Darcy Coates is the perfect book to read curled up in bed at night when one wants to get spooked. Abby Ward lives in town that has been plagued with grisly disappearances for over a century. The culprit; possibly a serial killer, possibly a monster, known only at the Stitcher. When Abby’s younger sister is taken, Abby and her friends join forces to save Hope and solve the mystery of the Stitcher once and for all. A wonderful dark and twisty read with an original “Big Bad”. A must-read for anyone who loves murder and the supernatural.

Darcy Coates has such a beautiful way of writing that almost everything sounds compelling in her style. This was eerie and haunting but mysterious and thrilling, I had goosebumps while reading this. The plot was executed well and the characters were fleshed out perfectly.

I am a big fan of Darcy Coates, so I was very excited for this novel, but I was a tad disappointed. It might be because I am used to her adult novels, but I was wanting more.

This is between a 3 and 4 in terms of my rating. The first few chapters weren't my favorite with the formatting throwing me through a loop and the storyline which I wasn't entirely devoted to yet. However, the further I got into the book the more I began to enjoy it and found myself staying hooked. What confused me the most was the structure of the chapters because they weren't divided by characters and they could switch from one line to the next. Outside of the weird organization, I found the book to be a great quick read with excellent imagery.

Breathtakingly Suspenseful, immensely terrifying: who says YA Horror can't be every bit as heart-rendingly Horrifying as so-called grown-up Horror? Prolific Australian author Darcy Coates maximally delivers in this lengthy novel of literally nonstop tension fraught with overwhelming, implacable danger..

Doubtful, Illinois, is a town that seems to attract, not to repel, people, and once living there, they can't seem to leave. Yet its population is balanced by the vanishings: unaccountable disappearances without any recognizable pattern. Some will eventually be found; others never will. And now a small group of adolescent friends have reached their limit of cowering to fear: they're going to take back the night....or die trying.

"Where He Can't Find You" is an absolute must-read for fans of the the YA Horror genre! From page one I was captivated by the author's storytelling and intricate world they wove.

This tale is a relentless rollercoaster of intrigue and suspense. The skillful pacing left me on the edge of my seat both eager and nervous to unravel the mysteries lurking within the pages.

The fine line between reality and supernatural was so expertly blurred. Mentally it was a tug-of-war between accepting the rational explanation or the fantastical. The atmosphere was both chilling and alluring.

The characters were well-developed. Their struggles, fears and reservations really brought them to life with such depth and authenticity.

I would absolutely recommend reading this book!

If you’ve read Darcey Coates you know what a wild ride she brings to each book. This is everything you love about her and just a toned for a younger reader.

This was a truly fun horror-thriller (well, as 'fun' as a book that features some truly gruesome body horror can be). For YA, the gore-level is *intense*, so be aware going in that the idea of the Stitcher, and everything that name connotes, is taken to its wildest extremes. The characters were shockingly well-developed for a book that has this much going on in it, and I found myself skimming sections not out of boredom but because I was so invested in the outcome of certain scenes that I had to get to the resolution as fast as possible. Overall, this is a great YA horror, and I thought the ending was pretty great. It's absolutely over the top, and I loved it.

I was unsure about how I would feel about this book, but I gave it a try because it had a very interesting premise. I throughly enjoyed it and found myself looking forward to when I could read more. The author does a nice job of writing in some pretty creepy moments. I also enjoyed the historical aspects of the characters that were intertwined with the overall story. The biggest challenge with reading this book though is that the reader has to suspend their belief in reality for it to really work as a novel. That does go along with any kind of supernatural elements but there are other moments throughout that you just have to accept instead of question the likelihood of it actually happening.
