If you like a book that gives you all of the feels pick up a book by Emily March. Such great writing. Characters draw you in both primary and secondary. You just want to keep reading when it’s done
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was fun, but still had depth to it!
Emily March is an author I stumbled upon randomly and I am glad that I did! Balancing Act is another great read! With a beautiful Colorado setting and relatable characters, this fast paced read will have you laughing, crying, and wanting to take a vacation to a similar area just like the inn/cabins featured in the book.
I loved this book!! It was fabulous and well done. The characters were on point and I thought the plot was well developed. I would recommend this book to others.
Balancing Act, the second in the series, continues where the previous book left off. As usual, wonderful characters and a dynamic story exploring the relationships between sisters, parents and children.
In the previous book, Genevieve got so upset with her adult children's' behavior that she packed up the family home, sold it and moved from Texas to Colorado to be with her older sister. There the ladies bought an old resort to renovate and Genevieve then went into praetorship with a widower neighbor to renovated the town's old, dilapidated theater, in honor of his wife. And her children all followed her there.
A year later, she and her sister have finished the renovations, taken many trips together and looking for more adventures. But when Willow decides to stay in Lake in the Clouds, she finally gets to repair her relationship with her mother, which had been badly damaged by secrets. And there are a lot of secrets revealed between the beginning and end of the story. Genevieve finds herself pulled in many directions, between her sister, daughter and grandchildren, hence the title, as she starts to lose herself again.
I read a gifted advanced copy provided by the publisher via NetGally.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review. I eagerly wait for the next book.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Willow and Noah. Willow is a widow with 2 children. Noah is a firefighter who is on leave. They have an instant attraction. They keep running into each other. They start dating. They each have issues but together they work them out and fall in love.
Emily March is one of the rare authors where the reader knows prior to the first word that the book will be enjoyable, full of delightful characters (and sometimes re-appearing ones as well!) and a great story line. A good read will bring you laughter, tears and wanting more--and this title does exactly that! Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy--I loved every word and want more!!!
I first fell in love with Emily March’s books with her Eternity Springs series. In Balancing Act, she once again writes about cozy, beautiful small mountain towns that make me want to have my own midlife crisis so I can pack up and move there to be healed. This is the second book in the series, after The Getaway and focuses on Genevieve’s daughter, Willow, and her neighbor, Noah. Of course every character has their own trauma to work through and relationships to heal. I loved this story as much as others by Emily March and cannot wait for the next one to come.
Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for providing a digital copy for my review.
I love the cover of this book. The story sounds so amazing and very emotional. I think coming from another book and how emotional that story was, it has caused me to not get into this book. I'm happy to see everyone is enjoying this story and will have to come back to it after I get over the other emotional book that I just finished. Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book.
Balancing Act, the second book in the Lake in the Clouds series by Emily March, is the story of Genevieve Prentice’s daughter, widow Willow Eldridge as she and her two children move to Lake in the Clouds, Colorado, from Nashville when she offers to plan her brother Jake’s wedding when they learn the planned venue has burned down. As there is too little time to find a new venue where Jake and Tess live, they quickly design a destination wedding in Lake in the Clouds, with the ceremony in the old cathedral and the reception at the lodge owned by their mother and Aunt Helen.
Relocating to a three bedroom cottage at the Lodge, Willow, Drew, and Emma settle in well. But the day Willow receives a phone call from stranger Noah Tannehill telling her to come get her son at his cabin changes much. The meeting of the demoralized widow and the traumatized firefighter is the crux of the rest of the story.
I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it!
I could only give this book 1 star because of Genevieve. I found her extremely annoying. She was a whiney, complaining old woman that could not be happy.
Genevieve Prentice is loving her life in Lake in the Clouds. She has made new friends, is close to her sister and is almost finished renovating her cabins. Her project in town, restoring an old theatre, is almost complete as well. She is a little unsure about a big milestone birthday approaching, but everything is still pretty quiet in her life. That is until her daughter Willow shows up and turns Genevieve's life upside down. Not only will Genevieve start to question her own life, she must also work to find a new balance.
Willow is a widowed mother of two and is back home in Lake in the Clouds carrying a huge secret. She knows it time to tell her mom the truth about her marriage, but can she work up the courage? She finds a new friend unexpectedly in a reclusive neighbour whom she has a run in with, and maybe he is just the thing she needs in her life to move on.
As a family wedding approaches, and new secrets are uncovered can Willow and Genevieve find a way to rekindle their close relationship they once had?
Emily March has been a favourite author of mine for a long time. Her series Eternity Springs is what encouraged my love of small town series a long time ago. Balancing Act is the second book in the Lake in the Clouds series, which so happens to be in a town close to Eternity Springs. I loved how the romance in the book was a slow burn, taking a friendship and turning it into a romance, slowly and thoughtfully. I appreciate that in novels which makes it more true to life. The characters were brilliant, and I loved the antics of the children. My thanks to Forever, Grand Central Publishing for my advanced copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily. A beautiful new series by a fabulous author.
The sisters are back!!! I swear I never know there the author is going to take Vivie and Helen on there next journey/adventure but oh my are the always up to no good. I loved getting to read Willow's story it was a tough one that's for sure. There was a bomb shell that was dropped and it just broke my heart for her. I really Liked Noah he was this broken person with some much to loose yet so willing to accept Willow and Drew into his life. His story was another one where the author draws you into the situation and has away of getting to the heart. I have to say this series so far has been really good the author is not holding back on tough subjects and faces in a way that most struggle to but in the end come out with there head above the water. Overall there was a fun read there was some curse words and the mention of sex so that may not be suitable for all but its well worth the read and such fun characters I truly can't wait for more.
What a brilliant book about family, love, healing and fresh starts. The writing style is perfect, great description of the small town setting as well as the wonderful characters. The storyline is thought provoking, heartfelt, inspirational and entertaining. There is nothing not to love about this book. From start to finish this was an enjoyable read and I am ready for more Lake in the Clouds.
Genevieve Prentice is building a new life for herself in Lake in the Clouds. When her daughter Willow and her children visit they decide to stay and plan the wedding for her brother. Her daughter says she needs a fresh start. Genevieve loves her grandkids but she had plans to travel and enjoy her new life. They both are hoping to leave their past behind and create the future they both want.
Thanks to Emily March and Grand Central Publishing-Forever for the book
Life is really a balancing act. For Willow Eldridge, it was balancing single motherhood, a new job, a new house, and a tenuous relationship with her mother Genevieve. Not mention her next door neighbor Noah who seems to show up at the most inconvenient times to help with things she wouldn't dare ask him to do. This book was heartwarming. Willow and Genevieve carry around years of emotional turmoil with each other. This book helped to mend the bridge they destroyed years ago and built a more solid relationship filled with remorse and forgiveness. The lives of all the characters were intertwined in this book, giving the reader a good sense of the relationships they had with one another and the day-t0-day detritus of family life. It was realiistic and relatable, especially since I'm the cusp of a huge milestone birthday myself.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher at my request and voluntarily left this review.
This book hits differently when you are also staring down a milestone birthday. Though mine is a few years lower than Genevieve’s, her feelings of “what’s next” we oh, so relatable. Though I have no desire to run away to New Mexico to draw naked men, in a Maserati no less, I very much enjoyed doing it vicariously. A must read for anyone trying to figure out the next step.
4.5 stars
An adorable read, not to be missed!!
This was my first book from Emily March and it won't be my last! I really enjoyed the flow of the book and the story line. We really got 3 different story lines all intertwined. Noah is a firefighter, who faces a tragedy that brings him to Lake in the Clouds to regroup. There he meets Willow, who has also come home to Lake in the Clouds for a wedding but then decides to stay as she tries to find purpose and direction in her life after facing her own tragedies! And Willow's mother Genevieve, wow always does everything for everyone else and just needs to figure out how to put herself first and learn to live in the moment.
I loved each of the characters, the book was just such an easy read, can't wait to read more.
What a joy it is to read an Emily March book and am always so honored when I can read one as an arc so that I can review it. This wonderful story captures everything I love in her books. This is a good women’s fiction, with not much drama and a romance just where it needs to be. Family, friends and small town living. We see several generations of family with Willow, her mother Genevieve, her auntie Helen as they navigate family issues, but they treat each other as adults which is always a plus for me. This is the second in a series, but is easily a standalone. I heartily recommend this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I've been reading this author for almost thirty years, first as historical romance author Geralyn Dawson and more recently as Emily March. Never has she failed to give me a story I could happily immerse myself into. Her current series, as the Eternity Springs books that preceded it, brings all the feelings and I am here for them.
March excels at creating family connections. In this book especially, I love how we see the stories unfold from the perspective of multiple generations. It was easy for me to connect with Genevieve, a widow of a certain age struggling to find her identity now that her children are adults and on their own. But March makes it equally easy to relate to Willow, a young single mother dealing with heavy emotional baggage as well as her young son, an inquisitive chatterbox with more worry than a child should have to shoulder. Add in a reclusive - but very hot - neighbor with plenty of emotional baggage of his own, an undeniable chemistry with Willow, and an endearing soft spot for little kids and puppies, and you have the heart-tugging recipe for romance, family, finding one's place, and happily-ever-afters. Not, however, until all of these characters navigate the unexpected obstacles life has chosen to place in their way.
Those obstacles are one of the things I enjoy about March's writing. Her characters' journeys have real, relatable layers as do the characters themselves. We're only two books into this new series but I'm already wholly invested in them and their well being. I'm eager to watch Genevieve find her footing...and her joy. I'm curious to discover what life has in store for her two remaining single children. And I'm wondering just what role neighboring rancher, Gage will play in it all.
For maximum enjoyment, I strongly recommend reading book one in this series, The Getaway, followed by Balancing Act.
