Thank you, Netgalley, for the opportunity to read this book. I was raised listening to The Beatles and found this book so informative! Great, fun read!
Calling all Beatles fans this is the book for you! This book is full of many facts, tidbits and info about our beloved Beatles! This book was interesting and is a must read!
Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book for my honest review.
I enjoyed the way the history of the Beatles' lives was shared in a fun conversation format between kids. I also loved the drawings. This is a great addition to any children's bookshelf. Worth the time to read!
When I saw this book I thought of a friend’s daughter who is mad about the Beatles and it having read it it would be an ideal book for her.
Written as a conversation between two children, the reader learns many many fun facts about the Beatles and the band members’ lives before, during and after Beatlemania. There are moments of amusement and many references to different Beatles songs as well as quotes from those who were inspired by the Beatles more recently.
I loved the format of this book and will be looking out for more in the series.
The Beatles Couldn't Read Music? is a conversation between 2 children about the Beatles. While young readers may not pick up on it, they start with using Beatles lyrics in the dialogue. The text includes lots of fun and interesting facts. The conversation breaks up the text pages to not look as overwhelming. However, there may be too much conversation between the characters away from the content of the book.
What a precious book!!! Not only are the illustrations wonderful, but the book is funny and filled with facts. I love fact books. I think this book is probably geared for children to learn about The Beatles, but honestly, many adults need to learn about them too. They need to learn about how they influenced the music world and how they are still influencing music today. This book features the story of John’s secret marriage, Ringo’s ill health, and how Paul was 28IF.
Well, this was jolly good fun and also informative! I'm a big Beatles fan so couldn't resist this one and have revisited some facts in it since to relay some facts to my dad who is an even bigger fan. I really enjoyed learning from this book and felt like it was a good introduction to anyone interested in the band! I've learnt a lot, poor old Ringo! Thanks for the opportunity to read!
I have been a Beatles fan for many years so when I found this book, I jumped at the opportunity to read it. As a Beatles fan there were so many fun facts to discover that I did not know about beforehand. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as an adult, but I also feel that The Beatles Couldn’t Read Music? will appeal to children. The characters, Paige and Turner, are a sibling pair who are interacting throughout the book sharing their knowledge about the Beatles. They both have fun, yet different from each other personalities and it is fun to listen to them banter back and forth while they share what they know. I feel like this would be such a fun series to have in a classroom for enjoyment or for class projects for the kids to base a biography on. But I also feel that Dan Gutman writes this in such a way that it isn’t boring nonfiction. Kids would love to pick this off the shelf whether they be at home, school, the library or store. I look forward to adding even more from the series to my family’s library.
Although this was meant for young readers, adults will also love this fun informative book about the Beatles. It is presented as a conversation between two kids and had snippets of trivia laced throughout along with quotes and some quirky illustrations which add an interesting layer to the book. I feel that the lighthearted and funny stories will endear everyone to the Beatles and showcase not only their amazing music and accomplishments but their charismatic personalities that made them the most famous band in the world. This would make an excellent book for a research project on a musical group and bring new fans to this celebrated band. It’s simple text, illustrations with plenty of white space will draw the young reader in. Even the most diehard Beatles fans may learn something new. Highly recommend. Many thanks to NetGalley and W.W Norton & Company Norton Young Readers for this eARC which will be published September 19 2023.
Makes it clear why the Beatles are still relevant. Entertaining and fun format includes trivia that even my Beatle fanatic spouse didn't know. Gives students a taste of the personalities and charm that were the Beatles.
This is a definite must-read for all kids (and grown-ups too!). Anyone who loves the Beatles will enjoy learning new and fascinating facts about this amazing band. Those who don't know much about the Beatles will learn so much and will be left wanting to listen to their music and learn even more! The book is fun, engaging, fast=paced, and interesting. Kids will find it very hard to put down! I will definitely be adding this book to my third grade classroom library!
This is a great read for any young Beatles fans, and both my 8 year old son and 12 year old daughter enjoyed flicking through this easy read.
It’s written in part as a conversation between the two authors and has lots of interesting facts and anecdotes about the band and their history as well as fun illustrations
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
A cute and silly book of facts! Loved this installment in the series and learned a lot.
I love this series! It has a very clever premise, a unique style, and unusual subjects. Here we learn lots about the Beatles. I didn't think I could learn anything new about the Beatles, but I was wrong. Essentially, the book covers 4 people, both as a group and as individuals. I highly recommend this series, and I cannot wait to see who is covered next! Thanks to NetGalley, W. W. Norton & Company, and Norton Young Readers for providing an ARC.
What a wonderful book for young readers wanting to learn more about the Beatles. The book is told through two children giving facts and information in an easy-to-follow format. There are many illustrations with quotes provided throughout the book. There is a ton of extra white space on each page to not make the book seem dense with writing.
Overall, something I would recommend students to read in my classroom.
This book is so much fun! I love the easy to read format that it’s written in - told by two kids with lots of white space on the page so it’s not as overwhelming for younger readers. The illustrations and quotes add a fun and interesting layer to the text. Dan really did his research with all the fun facts he dug up. Great job!
If you have readers who love the Who Was biographies, take a look at Dan Gutman's new Wait. What? series, including this title on the ever popular Beatles. Even I learned something, and I have a close friend who is SUPER into them, so I already knew a lot! I've visited Liverpool TWICE, once with aforementioned friend as well as with my daughter, Picky Reader. Picky Reader, coincidentally, was a huge fan of Gutman's work. Lots of good information in this, and arranged in a way that is engaging and well suited to emergent or reluctant readers.
I love this series and was so excited to see a new title! I learned so much about the Beatles and kept sharing the information with my travel companion. I think kids will enjoy the book, even if they are not aware of the Beatles music.
🎸 This book isn’t just for kids IMO. This is a fun & informative book for fans of music or musical history of any age.
🎸 Do you know how many “firsts” the Beatles had? They were the first rock group to write their own songs, first to perform stadium concerts, first to print lyrics on an album cover, first to record music backward… and more!
🎸 The book includes biographical details about John, Paul, George, and Ringo separately, and then it includes a lot of info about them as a band. There are details about their songs, albums, and of course they talk about the Beatlemania that swept the world! The book is written in a graphic novel style (narrated by two young siblings) & it is full of illustrations & interesting quotes from The Beatles & others.
🎸 The Beatles inspired many people around the world including many contemporary musicians. This book is a great intro to anyone interested in learning about the band, and it is a trip down memory lane for those who are already fans.
🎸 Please excuse me now while I put The Beatles on shuffle & start singing!
Thank you @Netgalley and Norton Young Readers for an eARC of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Beatlemania is alive again in this book of interesting Beatles trivia by Dan Gutman. From getting to know each member of the group personally to learning tidbits about songs and albums, this easy-to-read and digest book is sure to bring in a new generation of fans.
