Fun beach read for all the thriller lovers! Loved the dual POV by Holly and Claire. A slow burn thriller, but I was hooked early on and had to find out what happened. Who can you trust and who is telling the truth? Who was REALLY Holly’s friend?

I thought I had this one figured out, but I was wrong. Loved the twist and how everything fell into place. The ending would make a fun book club debate!

I read this book in just a few sittings. It was a very quick and enjoyable read. I enjoyed the way it was written from Claire's perspective and interwoven between her chapters you were getting the story of what really happened to her sister Holly told from Hollys viewpoint. I also really enjoyed that the author explored grief with the main character and didn't have her making stupid decisions for plot points.

I feel like I am usually able to figure out the twists in a lot of thrillers and I have to say that I was genuinely surprised by the ending. This was a super enjoyable "whodunit" for the summer. The only thing that would have been better was to be reading this book in Martha's Vineyard.

I definitely recommend getting a copy of this book!

I love a Jenny Blackhurst thriller - they’re easy to read, twisty and keep you on your toes.

They’re always hard to review though in a way because the things that make the story such a success are the clever elements that would reveal spoilers.

This one is a great summer thriller (not just because of the name!) - the Martha’s Vineyard setting with characters attending a party then a beach bonfire mean that this would be a great holiday read. With a cast of characters that are surrounded by circumstances that make them naturally suspicious, the mystery certainly keeps you on your toes.

The book is written on a dual timeline and this is great for helping to drip feed the clues to the truth. Holly’s chapters in particular which chipped away slowly at the hours of the night in question were excellent.

The ending wasn’t quite what I had guessed and that always makes for a satisfying ending. Overall a great quick read, would definitely recommend to thriller fans.

Claire’s sister, Holly, has gone missing but no one will take Claire seriously about the disappearance. Claire leaves England to come to Martha’s Vineyard to look for her sister. It’s quick and easy to read but pretty predictable. You can tell the author is British because the American characters use British terms quite often 🤭 I’d recommend for a quick pool/beach read. ‘The Summer Girl’ was an unputdownable thriller that I devoured in one day! Jenny Blackhurst is an author who I know that when I pick up one of her books that I am guaranteed a great read! She is brilliant at writing thrillers that will entertain the reader. I think this is the best that she has written though as it is fully believable that people could act that way. I like it when a thriller is authentic and relatable as it's scarier if it feels like it could happen in real life. This is definitely the case here!

I devoured this in one sitting and was fully immersed in it. It was full of tension from the start, especially with that prologue! The tension is lightened with sparks of humour sprinkled throughout and the author had a wry way of writing at times. Both Claire and Holly come across as likeable girls and I especially thought that both girls were relatable with their actions which were born out of grief. I was 21 when my mum died and I fled away for the summer and had too many drunken nights as well.

The narrative I found to be entertaining and full of twists and turns! It was an engrossing read and at times I was mentally shouting at the characters for their stupid decisions. This would make for a great tv series as it really pulls at the heartstrings and the location would be a dream on screen! I did figure out that ending but the reveal was unfolded in a brilliant way!

Let me know if you pick this one up!

An interesting read with lots of twists. Some are predictable, but the ending was suprising. And also in a way kinda sad. If you like phychological thrillers then you definitely give The Summer Girl a try.

This is the first book that I have read by this author, I enjoyed this fast-moving thriller. with likable characters.

This was a good thriller, I enjoyed it. I liked the family dynamics and there was a bit of humour amongst the drama which is always good!
It would be easy to get confused with the shifting timelines and different points of view but I like a book like that, it shows you different perspectives. Quite interesting twists, not as straightforward as I thought it was going to be.
Enjoyable read and ultimately quite sad.

I quite enjoyed this book especially the setting in Martha’s Vineyard. The story was as expected, no surprises with the ending for me , having said that I would still recommend it as a good summer read . 4 stars from me

Holly travels from England to Martha’s Vineyard after the dead of her mother. Claire, her sister, stays behind and is not very happy that Holly is moving on and leaving her. When she notices that she has not heard from her for a few days and their cousin receiving a weird text from Holly, she books a flight to look for her sister. The local police thinks Holly is with a man and sleeping off a major hangover. This is Martha’s Vineyard, nothing bad happens here. But Holly is nowhere to be found. Clair learns that Holly got involved with two brothers from an obscene wealthy and important family. And one of the brothers may be involved in the dead of a girl five years ago.

I have read several books from Jenny Blackhurst over the years and they were all a solid 4 Star read for me. This book is no difference to me. It is an entertaining story which held my interest. Claire is a bit annoying but also has a bit of dark humor. There are one or two things which were never clarified. That irks me a bit. I have never been to Martha’s Vineyard but I always wanted to. Now I desperately want to see it. I liked how the author described it, it sounds absolutely beautiful. Maybe one day. Until then I will keep reading books from Jenny Blackhurst.

This was a thrilling and suspenseful read! I really like Blackhurst's writing because she has a way of using time to aid in the creation and building up of suspense, something vital in a thriller such as this. The twists and turns kept me guessing and I just really really liked this book

An easy-read with some excellent dry wit which made me chuckle at regular intervals and was a welcome lighthearted lift to a book that is ultimately a thriller with a missing girl at the heart of the plot.

Claire travels to Martha’s Vineyard in search of her missing sister, Holly, to discover that she can’t trust anyone, not even the local police!

Narrated by Claire in the present and Holly on the lead up to her disappearance, there is plenty of teasing to ensure that you can never quite make up your mind and decide who is guilty, with a shocking final twist.

Holly is not answering her phone and that’s not like her, her sister Claire flies to Martha’s Vineyard to look for her. Seems there may be some history of the people of wealth there getting away with certain crimes, so Claire is forced to do the investigating on her own. She meets Gina who swears 5 years earlier her sister was murdered on the Island and it was covered up. Who can Claire trust? Who is leading her astray? Two brothers seem to be at the center of it all, but it’s hard to figure out who is genuinely good and who is the deceiver. Have to say their characters were written so well, has me guessing til the end!! Story alternates between Claire and Holly’s perspectives mainly. Really enjoyed the writing, story and great character development. Came close to a five star for me. Ending definitely wasn’t what I expected!!

Claire becomes convinced that the locals are hiding something because no one seems to notice or care at all that Holly is missing.

This was a fun, fast paced popcorn thriller. It was entertaining and kept me reading, but it didn't blow me away. I did appreciate that at times it was almost satirical. The ending was super predictable, but it didn't bother me as much as that normally does. I just really enjoyed the light, fast paced writing that gets you where you need to go.

The book was utterly gripping the whole time! I could not put it down! Just when you think you have one thing figured out, you like oh!! I enjoyed that it was a fast paced book for me. I was hooked from the from the first page until the last page. First time reading from this Author and I hope to read many more. .
