Tension Fuelled..
Toxic friendships, lies, secrets and drama populate this suspenseful and tense tale. Montauk is to be a place of peace and perfection for writer Carrie Colts. She is sure that she has made the right choice. However, it’s not long before things take a bizarre turn. With her world crumbling around her, Carrie needs to look for the perpetrator because there must be one..right? A convincing and well described setting forms an ideal backdrop for this edgy and tension fuelled plot populated with a deftly drawn and credible cast.
Thank you for allowing me to read this book before it’s publish date in November for the UK. It’s been an absolute pleasure!
Carrie’s life takes a slight detour when her mother in law passes away and they decide to move to her home as a bit of a break for the city. When her oldest friend Maya and her daughter Lola make a surprise appearance, Carrie is reminded of her past and the decisions that she’s made, that has brung her to this point in her life.
It’s not often I finish a book in 10 days but this was a really good read. The characters were great in a likeable Pete (Carrie’s partner) and a brooding teenager in Kelsey (Carries’ daughter)
A very personal opinion on this would have been not to elude to a big event in her past through the book and have it come about during her reminiscing of her past but this is mainly because I like a good surprise.
Kathleen will most definitely be added to my list of authors to look out for and I’ll be on the look out for her book ‘Mother of all Secrets’
(3.5/5)
I enjoyed this book, and would recommend for anyone who wants to read a fast-paced thriller! I loved the way that the it flashes from the present to the past, showing how their friendship was/is, as well as things that have changed through the years. This book started slow, but the more I read, the more intrigued I became. I feel like there may have been too much information put out about the town, as the town isn’t the MAIN part of the book, but it does help get more insight on where they are residing.
Outstanding. Fabulous. Remarkable. I loved this book and all of its unreliable characters! I didn’t trust ANYONE in the whole book and it made me not want to put it down, so I could see if a single person was telling the truth.
Really enjoyed this book!! It was an interesting read. I felt quite frustrated by the main character’s husband though as I felt he kept ignoring his wife’s worries and concerns.
The twist at the end was fantastic and I was hooked!
This was an ok book. I liked the story, and seeing how the events unfolded. However, I'm not sure why it is classified a thriller.
Disturbing storyline that still got me hooked, despite thinking I knew exactly what was going on.
Read it through quite quickly and was honestly shocked at the final twists!
At first, it seems like it will almost be surreal, when actually Willett is carefully pulling the strings and pulling it all together in the end.
I am so happy I've discovered Kathleen Willett, what a fantastic new author! "Anything for a Friend" was a page turner, I could not put it down and did not want it to end. I was trying to piece together the story the entire time and how Carrie's journey would play out. Definitely recommend!

After moving there with their daughter Kelsey, Carrie receives a phone call from an old friend from college. While they are there, strange things start happening such as someone has taken scissors to Carrie’s herb garden and college year book. She starts receiving strange texts, her manuscript has been deleted rom her computer and her phone has been tampered with. Carrie believes that all of this is Maya’s doing. Maya however, has secrets. Secrets that Carrie does not want exposed. If they were to be exposed she could lose everything. So Carrie is too afraid to ask Maya about the occurrences. Now she must find out first, who is doing these sinister things, and if it Maya is the culprit, why is she being so mean? What is her motive? You have to read the book to find out.
Let me start by saying I loved this book. It had everything needed for a great thriller. My only con was the overly descriptive parts about Montauk. I am not sure if the author put that there because most do not know about the place but it made the story drag on more than necessary. I understand it is a beautiful and rich place but I do not think that the reader is too concerned about the town they are in. The rest is awesome. The author does an amazing job of telling a story with characters that are very well developed. Flawed and emotionally un/stable. The twist and turns made this book even better. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the author changes everything and you are led somewhere else. No bread crumbs here……… predictable…… nope. I believe that this one needs to be made into a movie. Perfect premise and certainly something I would love to watch…………..although, I know the book is better.

Thank you to NetGalley as well as the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
Oh man, "Anything for a Friend" totally pulled me out of my reading slump! It's a suspenseful ride with writing that just sucks you right in, and the pacing is spot-on! I mean, I crushed this book in a day – couldn't get enough!
Carrie and her hubby inherit this sweet house in Montauk, and out of the blue, her long-lost college BFF, Maya, shows up with her kiddo, Lola. But things get cray-cray when Carrie's life goes haywire – her herb garden gets wrecked, her manuscript vanishes, and her phone's messed up! And guess who's the prime suspect? Yep, Maya herself! Talk about drama!
But man, the dialogue in this book is so believable, it's like you're right there, eavesdropping on their convos. And let me tell ya, the plot twists are wild – I never saw 'em coming!
Friendships and all their complexities are front and center, which made me totally connect with Carrie and Maya. This book kept me glued, flipping pages like a mad person, just dying to know Maya's deal!
Kudos to Kathleen Willett for this gripping suspense novel! And a big thanks to her for the ARC copy – it's been a blast! Oh, and props to NetGalley too for sending me this widget. Can't wait to see what Kathleen cooks up next – she's got skills! 🙌🔥#AnythingforaFriend #NetGalley
This was an interesting psychological thriller of sorts book. I felt like I knew the ending early, but it was a little different than I thought. It was an enjoyable read. Good summertime beach book !Thank you NetGalley for pre release copy for honest review.
This is a new author for me and I can happily say I was not disappointed in this book at all.
Carrie, her husband Pete and their daughter Kelsey move to Montauk after Pete inherits the house from his mother.
Carrie receives a phone call from an old college roommate Maya who she hasn't seen in years. Maya has recently lost her husband and before long Carrie is welcoming Maya and her daughter Lola into her home.
Soon strange things happen, will Carrie regret reconnecting with Maya?
This book has dual timelines which I always enjoy as it builds up the suspense. I loved the dynamics of their friendship which seems to be based on secrets which can either keep them bonded together or tear their lives apart!!
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Anything for a Friend is full of secrets, twists and turns. I could not put this one down! The author does a great job slowly revealing more and more of the past between Maya and Carrie, which helps explain what is going on in the present. Closely bonded friendships can hold many secrets and this book highlights just how much two friends are willing to hide in order to keep each other. I loved all the new shocking revelations throughout the book. I highly recommend picking this one up!
Thanks to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for a digital ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union publishing for the ARC. The mother daughter and friend dynamic in Anything for a Friend makes for an interesting read. I enjoyed reading the past and current stories side by side in conjunction slowly revealing the secrets that lie between the characters. The twists throughout will keep you hooked. Well worth the read.
Overall it was a good read but I felt it was lacking something to the storyline as it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat.
It was well written and the characters were good but didn't have the wow factor for me, sorry.
Thank you to Netgalley and Lake Union for this ARC.
Writer Carrie Colts hopes a move to Montauk will be a rejuvenating change of pace for her family. The last thing she expects to see is her former college roommate on her doorstep. Newly widowed, and with a daughter of her own, Maya would love to reconnect. As a gesture to an old friend in mourning, Carrie extends an invitation to stay. Just for a few days. After all, there are reasons that Carrie and Maya are estranged.
It didn’t take long for me to be at the edge of my seat with this one! You know something is off when Maya suddenly shows up. Their relationship doesn’t exactly bounce back. When Maya temporarily moves in, I couldn’t help but wonder why their friendship was estranged to begin with.
I loved the dual timeline and learning about Carrie and Maya’s past. Funny how you can change your mind about a character a story goes on. They have a past full of secrets, but will those secrets hold these friends together or tear them apart?
Can’t wait to pick up Willet’s other book - Mother Of A Secrets!
The book started out interesting but I have to say although it was an easy read it wasn't much of a story,
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read and review book!
This wasn't terrible. Intriguing ANF mysterious plot that kept me hooked. Interesting characters that kept me guessing. A couple of twists. What drove me absolutely bonkers were the specifics of Montauk that were only there to . . . I don't even know. Impress? Love the author knew Montauk well? They went out of their way (dragging the story with them) to add in specific restraints or aspects only people who are familiar with the place would know or even care about. It certainly didn't forward the plot.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a great read! The book flowed so well and the character development was great. This book is a page turner that you don’t want it to end. I would recommend this book to my friends and anyone who loves a good thriller! #AnythingforaFriend #NetGalley
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
