I absolutely loved this book. A tale of miscommunication and heartbreak, it had me laughing and crying (as well as yelling at the characters to Just Talk To Each Other!). The only part I found a bit unrealistic was how easily Jace forgave his brother, but apart from that, it was excellent.
What a Sweet, Beautiful yet Heartbreaking Story about two people who are meant to be together — to the core…but somehow keep finding themselves apart.
It all starts as Jace is being worked over by a bully after school. While getting pummeled, to his amazement, he finds that he is getting help, and the bully is beaten…only to run away. The best part is…it’s a girl who came to his rescue! Meet Andi (Andrea), who is from a totally different walk of life than Jace and his brothers but just wants to be his friend…more than anything in life! And also, to feel loved!
ANDI comes from a wealthy family, who appear from the outside to have everything…but Andi is lost and feels like she is/has never been, loved. At one point she says something like ‘her father would treat her like a chess piece…move and trade with no feelings…’ but this is her life and she’s learning how to handle it all as she grows up. This deficit comes with its own set of challenges.
JACE comes from a big loving family with terrific core values, BUT, he lost his parents in a shooting, when he was very young.
His parents were very musically oriented, and his father always felt that music could change and/or heal any and everything. Stating something like ‘music has no color. It can heal everyone!’
He and his brothers basically live by this! They are pursuing their dreams of making it big one day as a nationally recognized band. But of course, all things in life have obstacles, and their dream is no different…
Through many ups and downs over the course of their lives you will laugh, you will cry, you will break down crying. You’ll take a deep breath and try again…only to find yourself going through the emotional gamut yet again.
My advice…try to read this when you are not surrounded by people who will wonder why you are hysterical crying… 😭
Also my advice, despite the many tears I shed, you definitely want to read this one!! Because, despite all the tears; the happiness and smiles, and feeling of overwhelming goodness and love prevails throughout this book! And that makes this one very special!!
I was so invested in ALL the characters in the book…even the ones I didn’t like…because you are so drawn in to the whole story!
And just when you think you have it all figured out? Well, that’s when you get thrown under the bus again with a brand new twist…over and over!
Yes…multiple plot twists! Multiple mouth hanging open moments. Multiple awe struck, love infused, family and friends moments throughout!
I am not familiar with this author, but I WILL be looking for more of her books!
5 + ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!
Thanks to NetGalley and W. W. Crown Independent Publishers for the ARC of the audiobook which was released on July 25th. If it sounds good to you, look for it on a shelf near you, now!
Jace and Andrea meet in Central Park when she helps him escape a beating from the high school bully’s. Their meeting is kismet. They are the perfect pieces of a puzzle, they are meant to be together. They see each other and understand each other like no one else. However fate has a different plan. They are driven apart. Faced with unimaginable obstacles, betrayal and lies the couple try to navigate life without their person, the one that they promised to be with forever.
This story will tear your heart out, run it over, throw it into a shredder and then set it on fire. It is heartbreaking in so many ways. It also has a strong message of hope, redemption and forgiveness that makes this a standout among other contemporary romances. I highly recommend this but be prepared it is an emotional roller coaster.
The audio narration was done very well alternating narrators with main characters .
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced audio version of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I struggled with this book. I wanted to love it, but it just didn't get its hooks into me. The initial whirlwind romance didn't feel realistic at all with its complete lack of depth, so it was no surprise that it ended. The love triangle was a drag and I wasn't invested. There was too much of the miscommunication trope throughout the story, which absolutely isn't my favorite. I was disappointed.
I read this on audiobook and perhaps the narration took away from the experience as well.
A huge thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
Admittedly, I had the hardest time getting into this story. It's definitely outside my usual genre but I thought I'd give it a shot, and while it wasn't a story I'd say moved me to my core, I can see it being a great one for romance lovers.
Devastating. Stunning. Heartwarming and bittersweet.
“The Space Between Us” is a beautiful story about love, grief, family, and second chances. I absolutely loved every agonizing moment of Andy and Jace’s story. I can’t recommend this book enough. I raced through it and don’t feel like I can get enough of each of these characters. So well written. Great story that didn’t fall into the corny romance cliches.
This book includes:
- family
- forgiveness
- second chances
- found family
I received this audiobook ARC from NetGalley. Thank you to the publisher.
I loved this book! I was hooked right away and invested in the main characters stories. I appreciate dual POV and dual narration so much.
Thank you W. W. Crown and NetGalley for the audiobook copy.
So I cried. A lot. I enjoyed this book. I don't mind a book that makes me cry. This one for sure pulled at the heart. I loved Andy from the beginning and just grew to love her more throughout the book. Jace is a good guy. I was very happy with how some of the stories were tied up. I was sad about a couple. I really did love this book. Im excited to read more by this author. Thank you to NetGalley and W. W. Crown for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
“Okay, I’m ready. (…) Tell me what happened in the space between when I was gone and when I was there.”

“The Space Between” follows two new yorkers that simply couldn’t be more different. Jace Morgan is an aspiring musician from the Bronx while Andrea Leighton-Hughes is a wealthy Upper East Sider that was immediately drawn to this musician playing at a park. Their connection is instant and their love is palpable, so why do people keep getting in the way? Following them through 13 years of miscommunication and a lot of time apart, this book will have you rooting for true love through and through.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT be bamboozled by a pretty cover. This book deals with pretty heavy subjects, in true Sarah Ready fashion as it seems.
Now the question is: have I been devastated yet again by another Sarah Ready book? Well yes, yes I have. This shouldn’t even surprise me at this point but holy did this book break me. Between miscommunications and downright bad luck and bad timing and bad things happening to good people—I was beyond broken. This book will be sticking with me for a while.
I would highly recommend this read if you’re a sucker for first loves and aren’t too afraid of sad things happening in romance novels.

This is my second book by Sarah Ready and I am blown away again. She does emotion so well. The characters that are flawed making bad decisions and growing but staying true to who they are. This is an emotional book and you can see that there is a lot of love that went into it.
Sarah Ready has become my most read of 2023
This again is not like her other books I've read how following your heart can either be the best thing you do or the hardest. Can you make things work out when other people interfere? This story takes place of the course of years where all you know is what you were told not the truth and you have to come back to the beginning to heal and either move on or forgive and start over.
This was a fantastic read

The Space Between follows Jace and Andi after meeting one evening. They fall in love and Andi decides to follow Jace and his band on tour. Despite the strength of their love, one night forces them to fall apart. Years later, Jace is in one of the most popular bands of their time and Andrea is working for her father’s company. They are worlds apart, but they may just be brought back together.
Let me start by saying, I’ve read a Sarah Ready book before and enjoyed it so I was really surprised by how much I didn’t like this one. By the time we got to their breakup, the book was only 50% in and it felt like it had been dragging on for so long. After that, it gave us an entirely different love story which really takes you out of the original romance, but it didn’t really matter to me because I was already so removed from the book at this point. At the 50% there were two very traumatic events (not to mention, both Andi and Jace has childhood trauma) which felt like a lot all at once. But it didn’t stop there. From then on it was traumatic event after traumatic event sprinkled with some confession that added more trauma. It was a lot. And felt like the only reason this book was capable of moving on was through giving these characters a lot of grief and turmoil to deal with, and not in a well thought out way.
I guess this is all to say I may have liked this better if the story structure was different, maybe a little less linear. And I would have loved it if there was more cohesiveness in how the big events and confessions were delivered.
I absolutely adored this novel. I could not stop listening to this one I started. The character development was so well done. The lives of each character were rich and had real depth. I think I may just need to run out and find more Sarah Ready novels…!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and to Net galley for this most lovely audio ARC. I am truly appreciative to have had the opportunity to experience this novel.
This was actually my very first Sarah Ready book, and it definitely did not disappoint! It was super cute and I enjoyed it
What a fantastic story about what happens when two people met and grow together and apart and all the space in between. Told from the 2 main characters pov it follows tgeir stiry from meeting growing apart and meeting ahain and everything inbetween.
Both narrators capture the heart of both characters and bring the story so true alive. They made me laugh smile and cry. Feel anger and made me wish things were different. I loved every second the only bit that could jave been better is we learnt more about the female character's life in the space where they werent yogether than we did the male and thats it. A solid 5 star thank you net gallery and publisher for my arc.
Thank you to #NetGalley & Sarah Ready for the ARC audio version. Not my usual genre to gravitate towards but this popped up and I was drawn to it. Jase and Andi/Andrea & Reed, both tragically beautiful love stories wound together in rare moments of circumstance or destiny? I loved that it isn’t wrapped up all nicely. Although I’m not able to personally relate to the riches over the top lifestyle - it is contrasted later on with the more typical. However, what is relatable throughout is the human condition of each and every character presented. They all pull you in-eventually even Andrea’s Mom & Claudia too! I wasn’t sure where the story was going midway but I’m so glad I kept going. It hits all the feels throughout from Dallas to Dean, Andrea and Reed’s Dad, heartbreak, protection, betrayal, healing, loss, forgiveness, awareness, layers of love, awakening, etc. It’s been a while since a read has brought me to tears too! There is just so much here to unpack. Definitely a favorite this year! Thank you for reminding all of us to dream BIG! Live life and love to the fullest!
Thank you to Netgalley and WWCrown for allowing me to listen to an ARC audiobook of this title.
I've never heard of Sarah Ready. I gather from the many 4/5 star reviews that she is a reader favorite. She writes well and this book, in my opinion, belongs in the summer beach category. A high percentage of readers will get lost in it and love it. I'm not one of them.
The story was interesting. Two people from very different backgrounds, meet in Central Park and fall in love. Jace is poor and a very good musician. Andrea is rich and very lonely. His music immediately speaks to her. But she feels she has to keep her wealth from him or they won't go on. Of course, he learns by accident and is furious.
When the first mishap separates them, years pass. That is the Space Between referred to in the title. What happens to the two and to their connection during these times? They remeet as successful adults twice.
I expected to cry as so many reviewers talked about crying. I think you have to be that age and have something going on in your love life that this story can pull at your heartstrings. I don't. It all seemed a little far out to me.
I'm all in favor of love, and love the idea of love at first sight or sound in this case but...
This is a very quotidien book. Shit happens and we go on. That is basically the message dressed up in the best romantic costumes you can imagine.
I prefer Checkov's Lady with a Dog any day over this!!
Boy did this one make me cry! A few times actually. A sweet story and I definitely will recommend it
“𝚆𝚎’𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚏𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚜. 𝚈𝚘𝚞’𝚕𝚕 𝚝𝚎𝚕𝚕 𝚖𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚜𝚎𝚌𝚛𝚎𝚝𝚜. 𝙸’𝚕𝚕 𝚝𝚎𝚕𝚕 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚎.”
After listening to and loving 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 earlier this year, I was excited to dive into another one by Ready.
Jace and Andi’s romance starts the story off in the sweetest way. That exciting feeling of knowing you’re falling? That’s there. The drama comes from both families who are against their relationship. Jace’s brothers see Andi as a kind of ‘Yoko Ono’ who could distract him from the band’s ambition to get a record deal. Her family thinks he’s a gold digger, and unworthy of existing in their ultra rich social circle. Jace has known love and loyalty all his life. Andi has never received affection from her family, and has only observed relationships are transactional.
The story spans several years as Jace and Andy explore their future together. However, they breakup and are apart for several years. They each go on with their lives until they reconnect later.
This beautifully written and told story captured my whole heart. Jace and Andi are charming. Their backstories are sad making it incredible that they’re not completely broken people. They’re so beautiful together which makes it so hard when they’re apart. Speaking of, during that time we see more of Andi’s life than Jace’s, and I wish there wasn’t that gap as Jace had his own painful journey to go through.
This is no romcom. It’s an emotional ride, a tearjerker. I’ve kept away from sad stories, but the combination of Ready’s storytelling, and a genuine fondness for the characters makes this such a compelling and heart-tugging read. True love and happily ever after eventually prevail.
Thank you to @netgalley & #IBPA for my ALC.
Solid 4 stars, you made me cry, for like the last 10 chapters of this ridiculous love story of a novel. STAHP IT!
