This is a fun and engaging cookbook geared towards kids. Along with vibrant, eye catching illustrations, there's jokes and the occasional picture and/or fact about either a special dish or the state itself. Each recipe states the level of difficulty required, which I appreciate. Some are more in depth and time consuming but still easy to accomplish and with easy to acquire ingredients. Many of the recipes are really tasty sounding and seem spot on to the particular state like "No Bake Peanut Butter Pie" for Georgia, since the state is the largest grower of peanuts in the US! A few of the recipes left me wondering just how they related to the state but overall this cookbook is full of fun recipes that will be great for the whole family to enjoy!

I was excited to read this book. Our family loves to travel and to try different cuisines that are local to the area. I did find this book wonderful with various recipes from each state that are on the easier end for the daily cook. I didn't find anything too complicated. I will say this. There seemed to be some things missing. Take Georgia for example. Not one peach recipe. That is what they are known for! My suggestion would be to get rid of the "suggested meal plans" and potentially add a couple more recipes from each state. Most states are so diverse and that would give more opportunities to try new things. Overall, a great read!

I really enjoyed this cookbook. I liked learning about the different cuisines. I made the frittata and the puff pastry cheeseburgers which were both delicious.. I would say some of the recipes were extremely simple like sweet corn. I also agree with some of the other reviewers looks a little off

Recipe Road Trip, Cooking Your Way Across the USA is a fantastic family cook book exploring popular foods from the United States of America.

I loved the layout and the way the recipes were grouped into sections such as South West, Midwest etc.
There is a good selection of recipes, which have clear instructions and an easy to follow ingredients list. With the help of adults the book is straight forward enough for budding young chefs.
There is a wide selection of dishes to choose from - starters, mains, desserts, salads, soups, bread....
Throughout the book there are various short, fun facts to widen the readers knowledge and little jokes to add a comical aspect to the pages.

I like the map at the beginning, showing the different states and the illustrations of the food is a nice touch to brighten up the book.
The contents page and index allow the reader to easily find the page of a specic recipe.

Overall, it is a nice family cookbook that will help children develop their cooking skills and learn a variety of new recipes from across the pond!

I would recommend this book to anybody from 8 years plus.

This is a great family cookbook. The recipes are cute and fun. They will get the whole family engaged in cooking without being overwhelming. The recipes are themed nicely for the states. The author also incorporates fun facts about the states in the book.

Love the layout (starting with the map breakdown of the various areas of the US), and the nicely formatted recipes. Like the jokes and the random state factoids.

Would have liked to see more - bigger photos or drawings. What I REALLY would have liked is an explanation for why these recipes are the ones that were chosen for each state. What made them special or unique to represent the state?? Sometimes this is covered, but not consistently.

When I first saw this title, I thought, what a great idea! Nanette Lavin has taken that idea and given us the opportunity to build some really great memories with the younger members of our families. Just pulling them into the kitchen doesn't always work, but giving them the stories behind the recipes surely caught and held the attention of the children in our large family. Then, they shared those stories with their friends and siblings so another generation was introduced to the wonderful feel of cooking together, then eating what you cooked. All because Nanette Lavin had such a wonderful idea!!!!

Thanks Nanette Lavin and NetGalley for this wonderful advance readers copy of Recipe Road Trip, Cooking Your Way Across the USA. The recipes in this book are absolutely amazing and delicious. I love that they are ranked 1-3 in ease of making so that beginners to experts can easily find something to make. There are fun dishes from every state as well as some surprises. I’m looking forward to learning how to make some of these recipes that I have never made before but with her easy step by step recipes I look forward to making them.

4 stars

This is a nice book with lovely recipes. I loved that it has it separate by State. I wish it would have had pictures. I am more inclined to make a dish if i see it first. Eating with your eyes!

A fun easy cookbook. Recipes are grouped by region and state with some full menu suggestions as well. The recipes are easy to follow with there are many that are kid friendly to make and definitely to eat. Nothing terribly sophisticated and some really old school that I cannot imagine ever making (Pineapple Cucumber Jello salad - yikes!), but most really fun. Made salt water taffy, chocolate dipped chips (also did some pretzels), frozen lemonade and maple candy on a hot rainy day with the kids and we all had a lot of fun!. It seemed like a national tour of state fairs, but yum! Would have liked some more photos.

Interesting to see what the editors view as the biggest recipes from each state but some are right on and the recipes look good. Excited to try them.

I was hoping this book had a few more recipes in it than what it had but it at least had something for each section. I liked that there was a variety of recipes (appetizers, salads, soups, entrees, desserts, etc) so at least if you just wanted a new salad recipe you could go to the index and look it up.

This was an enjoyable cookbook to read through. I wish I could better understand why the author picked the recipes that she did for each state. The recipes are easy to follow. I think the recipes will be popular with lots of young eaters. I’m looking forward to trying the Oregon recipes specifically.

This was a fun cookbook to read. It is more for children than adults due to the level of difficulty of some of the recipes. I enjoyed the fun facts and dad jokes that came with each state. I also enjoyed how the book was organized. I did feel like this book was lacking a bit in terms of imagery. I tend to enjoy cookbooks with photographs of completed meals and steps rather than illustrations.

Author Nanette Lavin created a nice book of recipes for children to learn about food from around the country and its terrific that she included DC, PR, Mariana Islands and the territories. Overall, the recipes are designed for children learning to cook with simple instructions and basic ingredients. And most of the states are well represented in the book. However, the recipes are so basic, some lack spices and ingredients that impact flavor - part of cooking new food is trying new flavors.

Fun cookbook for kids, with a geography twist. There are two recipes for each state, Washington DC, and the territories and commonwealths. The recipes are either famous local dishes or use local ingredients that the states are known for.
Recipes are separated into chapters by five regions, plus the extra locations. The recipes are ranked by difficulty, but the book's intro indicates it's expected an adult will be around to assist if needed.
Most of the recipes have an illustration of the finished dish. Sprinkled throughout are also dad jokes, fun facts, trivia, and some historical facts.
This would be a fun book for any kids that are especially interested in cooking and/or geography and a great way for families to have a fun learning activity together.
I do wish the book had provided nutrition info and/or taken special dietary needs into account.
