This is an adorable little story that follows Davy and his adventures throughout the day. To me, this story is reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh stories in that it's a comforting, fun adventure that doesn't take unpredictable twists and turns. The illustrations are also beautiful. This would be a great book to read with kids on a snowy day.
Davy in the snow is about a bunny and his younger sister going on a trip across the snow to visit their grandparents. While there, he is told about a time that his grandfather got lost in the snow, and how he knew what to do, which is build a shelter using trees and branches, and to stay put, because you can get lost in the snow.
So, of course, this is a forewarning that the same thing is going to happen to Davy.
And sure enough, it does. And sure enough, because of that story, he knows that to do.
It is advice that is good for everyone to know, young, or old. The main things about not moving from where you are, and keeping warm are super important to being found alive.
So good book, and cute pictures, and not so scary that kids might not get the message.
Translated from Swedish.

It is a nice book with lovely illustrations. Davy's fortitude and composure in the face of adversity inspire me. Davy's concern for his younger sister is endearing. I loved it!
Davy in the Snow by Brigitte Weninger is wonderful children’s book. A great story about a bunny family. A big brother takes his younger bunny sister to their grandparents’ house to deliver some carrot cake their mother has baked. They get lost in the snow on their way back but Davy, the big brother, will somehow save the day.
This is a story children will ask for again and again. The illustrations are really pretty and the story makes it a pleasant moment to share with your little ones.
I read it three times already!
Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for this ARC.
Davy in the Snow by Brigitte Weninger - 5/5
Children's Fiction
Having three children myself, this story of siblings was incredibly heartwarming. Davy and his sister Mia are out on a cold winter day adventure to their Grandparents house. I love this story. It is such a cute and easy read, on a perfect cold winter day where you do nothing but cozy up and snuggle the day away. The illustrations are adorable and hits you right in your feelings.

This is a perfect winter, cozy story and if you live in a place that snows a lot, you'll relate to the moments of this short story. Two siblings get caught in the snow, but they are clever to think of security first, to have listened to the elder's knowledge and remember the stories, and to look out for siblings. Very sweet.
I received a free copy of, Davy in the Snow, by Brigitte Weninger, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Davy the rabbit and his sister Mia, are on an adventure to their grandparents house. This is such a cute story and has great illustrations. I liked how Davy remembered what his Grandpa said to him about not panicking. A good story.
A sweet story about a family of rabbits, with the sweetest illustrations. Delightful work. Give this to the little people in your life.
Got a copy from Netgalley.
As an Alaskan who has grown used to long, snowy winters, it's pretty obvious I'd be attracted to this book. Lots of snow in it, ha, and cute little rabbits. This series was new to me, too, so a fun discovery.
I liked the simplicity of the illustrations. If you've ever been out in the woods on a snowy day, you know how quickly landmarks disappear or become unrecognizable. That's what happens to Davy and his little sister Mia. Fortunately, while visiting their grandparents, Grandpa told Davy a story about once being lost in the snow. When Davy and Mia lose their way after hitting a big bump in the snow while having fun gliding down a steep hill with their sled, that's exactly what happens. They're surrounded by nothing but snow and more snow and trees that all, quite frankly, look alike. Davy remembers Grandpa's words, however, and sets about keeping Mia and himself safe and warm. He stayed calm despite his worry and self-blame, and showed his love and concern, not to mention smarts, while waiting for help.
I liked that the author didn't drag out the story for suspense. This story is obviously aimed at younger children who'd find the thought of being lost and away from their loved ones frightening. Instead, it focuses on the strength of using your brain and working together with family to be safe until help comes. The wisdom of Grandpa's experiences were valuable to young Davy and it was wonderful to see his respect for his grandparents as well as love and trust for his family.
Thanks #NetGalley and #NorthSouthBooks for introducing me to Davy's world. As I said, I've recognized how quickly a white world can change your perspective, so it was heartwarming to see not just advice on how to cope should you ever have to deal with being lost in the vast whiteness but how family can hold things together, so to speak.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really cute story about being responsible and still losing your way. The illustrations of bunnies in particular are the cutest I've ever seen.
Since my library is in a snowy part of the world, this will be a great addition to our collection. A sweet, happy ending story accompanied by soft, yet colorful, illustrations.
Davy and his sister Mia are rabbits. After visiting their grandparents they get lost in the snowy forest on the way home. Because Davy listened to a story from his grandfather he knows how to keep them safe and warm until they can be found. This is a gentle book with lovely illustrations. There can be lessons learned for young ones about caring for others and what to do if lost. This is part of a series of books about Davy for younger K-3 readers. There are a lot of words per page which I find harder to get younger readers to check out in an elementary school. But it is very readable to students.
Thank you to NorthSouth Books Inc. for sending me an ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving an honest review.
This is a cute little story that showcases family bonds and teaches lessons about staying calm in a serious situation and what to do when you get stranded in the cold. The art was really pretty, especially the snow and forest. This is a book I would be likely to purchase for littles ones in my family.
Thank you to #Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of, "Davy in the Snow." It had colorful illustrations, a cute simple lesson, and some fun vocabulary all sprinkled in. Definitely a win-win.
While I enjoy the neutral colored illustrations more than the story, I have to remember this is ultimately for children. As always, there's a lesson involved. In this case, it's safety first, which is important to remember even as adults. Maybe especially as adults.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
A very sweet and touching book about staying calm in the face of the unknown. I loved the protective older sibling, wanting to make sure that while lost, they stayed safe and calm, out of harm’s way. The illustrations were darling and I really enjoyed reading this with my 3 and 5 year old kiddos.
What a sweet story with such a positive message! Rabbits Davy and Mia set out on their sled to visit their grandparents and bring them a piece of freshly baked carrot cake. While on their trek home, they encounter a snowstorm which prevents them from getting home.
Their fright at being lost is alleviated by the good advice their grandparents provided and good listening skills on their part. What might have been frightening to young readers is the reassurance and guidance the rabbits exhibit. They were told to not panic and look for a safe place which would be good feedback for so many similar circumstances for young readers. The fact that their father complimented rather than admonished them will also provide for their well-being.
A charming story with a pleasing ending that is sure to satisfy its readers!
On a snowy day, Davy and his little sister Mia head out to bring grandma and grandpa the carrot cake their mom baked. While they are there, grandpa tells Davy a story about a big snowstorm that happened when he was younger. When Davy and Mia are heading back, they get stuck in the snowstorm themselves, so Davy takes what he learned from grandpa and keeps himself and his little sister safe until help arrives. Cute book :)
This was such a cute story. I love how it teaches how to stay calm when there’s a problem and some good safety tips. Davy shows children how to problem solve and look after a smaller sibling. My 5 year old loved this story.
Davy and Mia had a scary mishap on the way home from visiting their grandparents. But thanks to Grandpa's advice Davy and Mia were able to weather their snowy plight. An exciting read where playtime turned scary for the siblings.
