I struggled to read this book with the number of spelling mistakes in my copy. I kept going for the plot which was good, but I just didn’t fall in love with the characters. I really like the plot and the premise of the book though.
This book was so fun and cute, perfect for this time of year! Such a sweet and light-hearted romcom. The witchy family added that extra touch of magic to the story. I love friends to lovers and this one was perfect, I was rooting for them from the first page! Only removing some stars because of the crazy typos in this ebook, anything with a double f just didn’t include one. For example “off” became “o” and “office” became “oice”. I really just couldn’t get past this and it made it difficult to read. Hopefully this will be fixed by publication date and otherwise a perfect cute little witchy read with some of that romance mixed in!
✨ Rom Com with a sprinkle of magic
✨ What if? Parallel timelines
✨ Friends to lovers
✨ Sweet cinnamon roll love interest
✨ Steamy scenes
✨ Side characters that *slap*
This was such a sweet and wholesome story and I’m pretty sad to be finished with Gemma and Dax’s story. The book has moments of laugh-out-loud-humour as well as some deeper themes about self confidence and following your dreams. As much as I loved the love story, I think my favourite part was the wild and wonderful side characters - they were bloody brilliant. I think my ultimate favourite has to be witchy Aunt Livi, what I’d give for an aunt like her!! I highly recommend checking out this book when it comes out early December for all the squishy feels.
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and the author for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this well written and cute story: it made me smile and root for the characters.
Losing part of our story could be great but you lose also a part who you are,
I liked the plot, rooted for the characters, and had fun.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This is a fun fantasy romance that can be enjoyed all year round. The tone is easy and lighthearted, the humour is abundant, and the chemistry is rife. I genuinely enjoyed this a lot. It was such an easy read and is one of those books that could end up being a comfort read for readers who prefer their romance a little more magical.
The magic in this is mild and involves a spell book and a parallel dimension. All those what ifs the main character has are answered. The main character, Gemma, has a chaotic energy to her but also does not like to take risks and is co-dependent on her support network of best friend, Dax, sister, Kierstin, and her Auntie Livi, possible witch and definite psychic. However, Gemma is incredibly relatable, funny, and upbeat or at least attempts to be optimistic. Gemma gets to explore her identity: mainly her wants and her fears, in a parallel dimension where she doesn’t have the same crutch of support telling her what to do.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love love love best friends to lovers? Honestly tops enemies to lovers for me. Why have two character who try to kill and then romance each other when you have two best friends who absolutely rip each other to shreds in a hilariously vocal manner and then romance it out? The spice is light in this, some definitely apt and competent descriptions but nothing that made me feel like a pervert for enjoying (I’ll save that for other books).
This book is lush. And never have I wanted margarita’s and doughnuts more than whilst reading this.

2.5 ⭐️
I’ll start this off by saying I would have rated this higher if it wasn’t for the many typos in the ebook. Specifically with words that contained a double F, like the word coffee was spelt like coee and office was spelt like oice, it took a long time for me to register what the word actually was and it seriously disrupted the flow of reading for me. Hopefully these can be rectified for when the ebook is properly published!
Okay onto the actual review…
I loved the synopsis of this book, it’s what really drew me into wanting to read it! And the overall plot was fun and an interesting concept! The execution fell a little flat for me unfortunately :(
I found the start to be really engaging and I was really enjoying it but it started to feel like the characters relationship was being rushed and I just wasn’t feeling the connection between them in this new “alternative reality” that was going on in the book?
Some comments also made me a little uncomfortable too, mainly during the spicy scenes and also in one occasion where a plus size person was described in a way that I wasn’t comfortable with personally.
Overall I think this book had potential but the execution and the typos made it a difficult read for me, I found myself not wanting to pick it up and read at times which is so unlike me!
I can understand why some people would enjoy this book and I have no doubt that it will be a hit for others! Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me!
A heartwarming tale that makes you think what if things went a little differently!?
The characters were engaging, the storyline was fun and the saucy parts were an added bonus. I really enjoyed reading it.
This was such a cute book, I loved the small town setting and the friends to lovers plot. I didn’t expect the story to turn in the ways it did, so it was full of surprises. I really enjoyed the characters, I adored the relationship between Gemma and Dax. I was hooked from the start, such a cosy and cute read, I couldn’t recommend it enough.
"This Spells Love" by Kate Robb is a charming contemporary romance that weaves a tale of unexpected connections. Robb's storytelling is endearing, and the characters' chemistry sizzles with authenticity. The novel explores love in all its forms, from friendship to romance, highlighting the power of vulnerability and understanding. With wit and heart, Robb crafts a delightful story that leaves readers with a warm, fuzzy feeling. "This Spells Love" is a heartwarming journey through the intricacies of relationships and the magic of finding love in unexpected places.
A truly amazing debut by Kate. I can't wait to read more her work.
I could literally feel the love between Dax and Gemma with this book.
A perfect love story with no 3rd act breakup (thankfully) with a touch of magic. What's not to love! It wasn't just about love, it was about people's dreams too, about taking risks.
A wonderful friends to lovers romance taking place over multiple universes. With a "he falls first trope".
Lots of character growth and development. The relationship between Gemma and her sister was also particularly important and transformative. I loved Gemmas growth in this relationship as well as her love life.
This Spells Love is a super cute, accidentally magic read! I’ve got to say this is one of my fave romances I’ve read recently. I’m not a huge spice lover and I think for me personally this book had the perfect amount. I also loved the relationship between Dax and Gemma, I thought they were really cute together!
The only thing that I didn’t 100% love about this book was that I thought it was a little bit predictable. However, I do think that can be said for a lot of romance books.
I would absolutely recommend this book to other people who want a feel good romance with a magical twist. This is Kate’s debut which I think is really impressive, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with in the future!
Gemma's boyfirend just broke up with her after a 4 years relationship. She's sad (but not devastated), so she needs sugar, booze, and her family's emotional support.
After too many margharitas, her mystic aunt proceeds a spell that is supposed to erase her ex-boyfriend.
How suprised she is the next morning when she wakes up in a parallel universe where she has never met him. And worse, where she has never met her bestfriend, Daxon.
She has then just one goal : performing the spell once again, in a reverse mode.
But what if instead of being her bestfriend, Daxon would become her boyfriend ?
This is a charming story, where a young girl has to be in a parallel universe to finally take her life in hands, and to dare living how she dreams, despite her fears. The storytelling is grea, and sometimes funny.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin, that was a nice discovery.
Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it in this magical spell-binding romantic comedy. The Halloween season needed a touch of romance and this is it!
A feel-good page-turner that keeps you entertained from beginning to end. Perfect for fans of (contemporary) romance with a touch of magic, beautiful friendships, and second chances.
I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book was AMAZING!! It's a super cute romance with a parallel timeline twist executed to perfection 🙌 I can't believe this is Kate Robb's debut because it's sooo good 🤍
One of my favourite things about this read was the humour. I adore books that genuinely make me laugh, and this was definitely one of those experiences. The bantering and chemistry between Dax and Gemma combined with swoony moments and impossible choices made this the best friends-to-lovers romance I've read this year!
This is a well written, multilayered story with spot on main characters who fall for eachother in two different timelines and great spice. I loved every single page and 100% recommend it!
Thank you to Netgalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story follows Dax and Gemma, who are best friends in one reality, but, after a bad break up, Gemma gets transported into a different reality where they could be more than friends. Not quite a friends to lovers story as only one side remembers their friendship, but nevertheless it was sweet (with a few spicy scenes too).
This took me a long time to get through as I struggled to get into this story. The title made me expect a witchy story for the Halloween season, with maybe a few spells that backfire or an exploding potion. However, this book has one spell and a quirky aunt who may possibly be a witch or may just know more than she's letting on.
The main characters were fine... I couldn't find myself rooting for them at the beginning/middle while the main character herself didn't know what she wanted. And, oddly, the description of Dax didn't quite fit alternate reality Dax, which added another layer of confuzzlement. But if you push through Gemma's character development, you end up with a sweet love story about taking risks, wearing your heart on your sleeve and supporting your friends and family.
This spells love was such a fun read! I loved Dax and Gemma so much, the perfect romantic rom-com for this time of year, had it all.. from humor to spice.
I can't wait to read more of Kate Robb book's She's fantastic.
This book was so much fun.
This is exactly my kind of romcom.
It's super cute and adorable and I want to reread it every year because it's officially one of my comfort books from now on.
It's Practical Magic meets Sliding Doors and I'm so here for the whole witchy/time travel vibe.
I'm usually not a friends to lovers trope girlie but oh my gosh...Gemma and Dax changed my mind real fast. They are perfect, funny and sweet together.
I was giggling, laughing and smiling through the whole book. THIS is what a good romcom should be like.
I can't believe this is Kate Robb's debut novel. Needless to say, she's one of my auto buy authors from now on.
I just have to mention that Gemma's sister and aunt were amazing side characters, I love how they helped her and supported her no matter what.
So if you're looking for a cute, fun and charming romcom pick this book up ASAP!
I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc of this book.
Soooo pleased I've read this, one of my favourite romcoms I've read in a while. I raced through and couldn't stop reading but also wanted to savour every moment. Fans of 13 Going on 30 should read this one! Looking forward to reading Kate Robb's future books!
I absolutely adored this book! I devoured the whole thing in an afternoon and completely fell in love with Gemma and Dax. The premise was so fun and was definitely one of the best time slip books I’ve ever read.
Romantic, funny, spicy, a protagonist to route for and a love interest to die for. I cannot recommend this book enough!
